No sales but I did find this Craftsman table saw on the curb in the neighborhood that got about 6' of water. It definitely got flooded but if it doesn't work there is still some good parts on it.

Funny you should mention free money, I was taking a bathroom vanity cabinet and range hood I found on the side of the road to a friend that got flooded and found this on the way back. The vanity was one of the FEMA ones so it was like new and the range hood worked fine, they were remodeling so my buddy got what he wanted for free. EXCEPT, he made me take $25 for saving him from having to buy those things so I made $25 for free and picked up the saw on the way home. WIN-WIN.

Jake, don't let yourself get down to Peanut butter on Ritz Crackers for dinner...

This is not good, this is not good at all. :headshake
I told myself that I wasn't going to go out today. I lied to myself. I must be punished. :lol_hitti

There was an estate sale at 10a this morning that mentioned an item that I might be interested in, no pictures, but I was certain that I'd be ok because the price would be too high.

I got to the sale 45min early, and was #18. Good, someone else would get to it before me and save me from myself. Since the item was in the barn, and it wouldn't be open until later, I just knew that someone else would be taking it home. I'm going to be alright. They opened late, and let the first 15 in. Good, the tools would be snatched up before I could get to the basement. (That part went pretty much as planned) So far, so good.

I picked up a few things and got off easy. I'm being a good boy, time to get out.

$2
a 1/2 box of 3mil contractor bags
Estwing #1 hatchet w/sheath
unknown Hammer (unknown type ?????)
unknown wall hanging 3/8dr socket tray (only stamped JAPAN)
S-K #8317 17mm combo wrench

100_2481.jpg

Then I made a fatal mistake. :eyecrazy:
I asked about the item in the locked barn.
I was told the price and I couldn't resist. I said SOLD !

Then it was an hour turnaround to get my trailer and pick it up.

$100
2 sections of 6' walk-thru pipe staging
w/ crossbars, pins, 2 leveling feet, and 1 platform.

100_2480.jpg

This is my second set of pipe staging this week.
I am a weak willed man.

Its a good thing that I'm not planning on going to the opening day of the flea market in NH, or the 4 sales that are advertising tools for sale tomorrow. Wait ! There's a sale on monday ! No. I mustn't. My wallet can't take anymore of this right now. :eek2:

If I cry Uncle, will it stop ?

Hit a couple estate sales yesterday and today, picking up a few things

The wanted $5 for the box and everything in it. I need the box like a hole in my head, but the contents made me go for it:

The big DBE is 1 1/8 and 1 5/16! Craftsman!

I don't know why I do this sometimes, I need another socket set like yet another hole in my head, motor also! The sale advertise a lot of tools, but not so great when I got there.

Wasn't a whole lot of tools, and the prices for what was there were high, but the old school hanging lamp is cool, dual marked Proto/Plomb and a vintage VARIAC. That needs a new cord though... (there was also a super cool old wood pinball machine that took nickles. but they wanted $650 for it and it didn't really work)

Is that just gunk and dirt-or are the castings on the side of the rear of that vise broken off?

First garage sale of the year.

Made a horrible mistake.

Found a website that lists estate sales.

Went to one that had tools, even though we had little money.
https://www.estatesales.net/MI/Saint-Clair-Shores/48082/1495419

They had a Wilton vise and a Delta drill press. High prices. Couldn't afford anyway.

Did get a bunch of SAE taps for $40, a Disston saw for $4 and 4" and 6" Armstrong C clamps for $5 each.

The dynafile was an amazing buy at $8. Mine was $550 iirc when new. Nothing quite like it for certain types of deburring. They even make scotchbrite belts for them. You ****.

Wow..ok thanks Jeremy and Dave. Deburring huh? I've been sitting here scratching my head trying to figure out what the hell it was good for. Guess it will go in the top drawer of the trade pile unless i think of a use for it. :)

3 planned stops today .......... and then I somehow ended up at the firetrap flea market (not the LFM).

The first stop was a bust.
The second stop was a contractor clearing out his stock. I think he was storing it in one of the McGarages at a new McMansion neighborhood (I remember when it was a Pig farm) and once he finished the last house had to clear out. New windows, lighting fixtures, some tools, and accumulated junk. The rest was being loaded into a box truck. My pile had a Channellock 440 in it, but he decided that it needed to go into his truck box instead. It's a good thing he didn't notice that the screwdriver was a SnapOn.

$5
Porch light (NIB)
SnapOn SSD8 flat screwdriver
Craftsman DOE 5/8"-7/16" (-V-)
Craftsman 6mm combo (-V-)
Vlchek WBE16 1/2" combo
SK #8312 12mm combo
unmarked steel bevel gauge
Craftsman screwdriver (circle-I)

100_2483.jpg

The third stop as also a contractor clearing out his tools. His prices were high, and by the time I got there most of the smalls were gone. Only the big ticket items were left. I wasn't all that interested in any of it, but I still picked up a toolbox for the house up north.

$20
Stanley 50gal JobChest w/keys (bigger than the one that's already overflowing)
(dusty, and a light surface rust, but otherwise in good shape)

100_2482.jpg

At that point I was done, but since I was in the area (actually, I was on the highway that would get me in the area, if I kept driving, and made a few turns ) I ended up at the perpetual flea marked that I refer to as the firetrap. I sometimes have good luck at the outdoor tables, I almost NEVER go inside to the rabbit warren. The guy I got the sockets from was reasonable, even though I had to wait almost 10min for him to return to his tables, but the other sales were a little steep for me. Still reasonable, just more than I would have liked to pay.

total FM price $26
Proto #6132 1" combo wrench
------ #6130 15/16" combo wrench
SK Wayne #13 metric socket tray w/8,9,11,15,18,19 mm sockets
---(that's my second one this week, and the third this week on GJ)
SK Tools #40122 1/2dr 11/16" socket
-----------#313 3/8dr 13mm socket
SK Wayne #45118 3/8dr 9/16" socket
S-K #40114 1/2dr 7/16" socket (knurled)
-----#40114 1/2dr 7/16" socket
-----#40124 3/8dr 3/4" socket
-----#40120 3/8dr 5/8" socket
-----#40118 3/8dr 9/16" socket
-----#311 3/8dr 11mm socket
-----#311 3/8dr 11mm socket (short to fit locking socket tray)
-----#307 3/8dr 7mm socket
-----#40916 1/4dr 1/2" socket
-----#40909 1/4dr 9/32" socket
Cornwell CR-V T60 3/8dr TORX socket (Taiwan)
Bonney A-16 1/2dr 1/2" socket

100_2485.jpg

Now it's off to my cousin's house to watch the Chibblings dye eggs, the kitchen, their parents, and each other. I'm already 30min late.

This guy had a lot of tools including some chainsaws. I asked him the price and he said $10 per saw. I passed on the Poulan along with the Homelite but grabbed this Husky 254XP. It looks like it was only used one or two times:

He also had this neat old clamp that I had to have. Pat. Jul 10 '88 ($5):

A CM and Wilton Machinist vise. ($65 for the pair):

Another fairly slow day, only 5 planned stops, only two had anything. Not sure why its so slow, the weather is great! Maybe because of Easter... :dunno:

First stop almost got entertaining. A guy had a pile wandered away from to and another guy was rooting through it. Then both argued about who was there first! I think both were re-sellers (you get to recognize them after a while), I Know one was. Missed on a 50 lb anvil in pristine condition, but I'm pretty sure it was a cast anvil so no huge loss...

So for $9 I got 4 Vaco Torx drivers, in a package, brass, aluminum and tin sheet stock in different thicknesses, A shop made bender, A Vlchek, Bottle Socket, GM U-joint, BlackHawk Bering puller and a wood handled flexible driver/adjuster with a square tip. That one is a bit of a mystery and the square drive is about .298 so what was it for beats me. it was a car guy so were there carps that used an odd square drive? :dunno:

The other decent stop had no real tools left and that one some guy was trying g hard to "negotiate" with the seller, and she got miffed and flat told him "You don't set the prices! I set the prices! :twak: I was amused especially as the prices were good! :bounce: So for $7 I got:

Two polished stone Book ends (SWMBO Loved them), 5 wood carved ducks made in Taiwan, the Coaster is welsh pottery and has the Welsh dragon on it, and a pewter "Viking Ship". The wood Box was free, The Punch down was a Freecycle PU, and the fan was a "take it!" at an Estate sale run by one of the regular Estate sale guys I know that knows I'm a strong buyer.

Little white lies: my wife and youngest daughter thought I said if they came along with me to the flea market, they might spot a harebrained Easter bunny, but I actually said Herbrand Easco Bonney. Oh well, when P Cottontail was a noshow, they made a quick walk through the tchotchke and got themselves a good breakfast out.
In addition to those wrenches, picked up some Indestro-made Westline combos, the ugliest Blue Points Chicago DOE I've ever seen (a 1618), a Thor "P" stamp, two Mossberg stamped sockets, a 1/4dr Snap-on 3/8" socket from 1940, a 1930ish Craftsman awl, an SK stubby driver, a Husky flexcable 1/4dr handle, a Craftsman visegrip, Stankey holdrite screwdriver, a PS&W (PEXTO) #7 gas pliers, a Vaughan & Bushnell end nippers, a mysterious 3-star iron #8 hachsaw frame, and a 1/4dr Oxwall ratchet missing the spring. Bummer on that last item, I was in a rush to leave before my car left without me, and picked it up for no good reason and left a perfectly good Craftsman nutdriver behind.
Total cost $10.
Other items spotted but not purchased: a 1940ish Dunlop jigsaw in nearly flawless original blue paint with GE motor (asking $60), somewhat rusty smallish heritage badge Craftsman tool tote with tray full of mostly junk tools, like a China camp hatchet w broken handle, but also a couple Craftsman stubby screwdrivers and a Cman socket chisel from the shiny alloy days.

Got a few freebies for helping a friend out sort though some of his grandparents tools. Mainly stuff I just thought was cool and things he didn't need or care about. Upland industries Allen key set , cotter pin tin (paper) , unknown mopar wheel bearing in box and a necchi sewing machine oiler ? Italian from what I have researched. I'll probably wont get to use it on a sewing machine tho.

About a month ago I picked up a 3" simplex vise for $25. Cleaned it all up and had it posted several different places and got a call on it last night. The farmer wanted to know if I would do any trading on it. I have it listed for $225 bucks so I said "sure , you got any rusty junk?" He replied " I'm a farmer, of course I do !" That's good enough for me to go check out so this morning I drove 30 min into Kansas farm country:3gears: to see what I could trade for. A long story short is I got $40 bucks and every thing here for the vise .... Some of the stuff might be real junk but I don't mind taking chances when I'm already ahead.

100 lb Anvil with stump
Old screw jack
Pipe Vise
coffee can full of old brace auger bits
Blacksmith tool
log roller
wooden clamp
hay knife
wooden cane
horse drawn tact
post drill
old heavy duty B&D drill with the bench dress !
Piece of wind mill section
Sun visor and two old head lights from an old chevy truck-rat rod material for some one I'm sure
Large Perfection kerosene heater- pretty rusty out side but the inside is like new and the glass is perfect.
Wooden handle hack saw
another old drill dated 1890-I'm such a sucker for this old junk
Keen Kutter No. 4 plane
No. 6 Stanley 1892 plane
2 draw knives
1924 pat date vise grips
green glass gallon jug
hand full of wrench's including 1 Snap-on and 1 Proto- other ones are just "S" curved drop forged USA for my collection

Dave, that clamp is Peck Stow & Wilcox, and much later became PEXTO

I restored a 12" version of that clamp once and sold it on ebay for 90 bucks a few years back.... When I say restored I mean wire wheeled it, painted the lettering black and wiped it down with BLO..

Little white lies: my wife and youngest daughter thought I said if they came along with me to the flea market, they might spot a harebrained Easter bunny, but I actually said Herbrand Easco Bonney

Nice :lol_hitti

Davefr - You ****! That little Snap On set. Nice prices.

Which leads me to today's flea market haul:

Just this little well used Snap On mini awl for $1. Better than nothing I suppose, as I got out there late and it was raining.

I have a story though. Just as I got there, the police showed up. 4 cops total. From what I saw, after they approached one guy, they went to this other guy's stand and started looking everything over. Looked like he maybe had some new Chinese household junk. Anyway I heard someone utter the word "bootlegs" and saw the one female cop looking in a black duffle bag on the guy's table.

This used to happen often at the old flea market. They arrested a number of people for the bootleg dvds and cds over the years.

I'm just curious who reported the guy. Customers, vendors, or management.
