I am from a small town 50 miles south of Erie Pennsylvania. Back in the early 70's we hunted white tail deer, and we used this Hobart meat grinder to process the game. Now that my dad has pasted on.... I inherited the grinder, and it has been sitting in my garage for 10 years. I got it out the other day and decided to paint it so I could sell it. It is a Hobart Model:# 622. It needs fresh gear oil to be put back in it, but can not find any info about it on line. I even called Hobart's main office and they said that there was no record of it. I was wondering if anyone out there knows anything about this? I would like to find a low cost gear oil and maybe a manual on it? Manufactured date is est. to be around 1930.

Very nice machine.

Logically, Hobart could at the very least advise on the lube.

I mean, this ain't a SpaceX component - How many lubes were there to choose from for meat grinders back then?

For as slow as it turns I would guess SAE 30. Nice grinder. Does it have reverse? Some of the newer ones don't and PIA when they bind up from sinew or fibrous vegetables.

I would imagine whatever is used in it should be food grade.

SUPERLUBE makes a USDA approved for food contact, synthetic gear oil that comes in convenient quarts. ZORO has it.
