Early Bird
- .50 cal ammo box with a nice marking and an intact canvas strap handle.
- An axel re-threader, this one made by National (never heard of them) in Jackson, Michigan I have a very similar MAC.
- A pocket clip test light. I have a growing affinity for these and have picked up quite a few. I like the art deco housing on the lamp on this one.
- An L.S. Starrett V-block (no. 278). I pawed through that box for an hour looking for its mate and a yoke without any luck.
In the
Too Rich for My Blood category was this:
This is a WWII British Field Medical pannier, made of canvas, leather, and wicker over an iron frame, on iron reinforced wooden skids. It has a drop front panel that provides access to two drawers on the bottom, which were missing. There are chains on the back for rigging and hemp rope handles on each side for lifting. Other than a broken ******** the left-hand side of the drop front, some badly desiccated leather around the corner and side of the lid on the right, and it being extremely filthy (the canvas should be an almost lime/OD green, seen at the edge around the top). It was in pretty good condition with really nice markings. In addition to the "FIELD MEDICAL" and the red cross on the front, there was a red cross and a large "2" on either side.
The seller thought it was WWI, and US Army, and but I still couldn’t talk the guy down to what I was willing to pay.
I am a little sick with cheap a$$ regret now, but I'll get over it in a day or two.
Here's a similar one in better condition with much better photos for anyone with a "fetish with things you can put things in," as Nine puts it:

And in the
Left Behind/Research category, this pic of a J.H. Williams 15" monkey wrench.
I have been looking for a 15-inch COES to go with an 8-inch COES for a Signal Corps kit (or, alternately, a pair of PEXTO's), but I suspect this one is too old (interwar, at least). The reason I snapped the pic was the odd branding. The 'J.H. Williams' makes sense. But I've never seen this logo before. Not < W > but < W&B >.
I'm going to go fishing on the vintage board.
