just found out it is a "radar magnet"

Probably part of a magnetron. It's a type of vacuum tube used for microwave frequencies. The magnetic field acts on the elections in flight and causes them to loop around in a circular path. It resonates at a very high frequency, higher than simple switching can produce.

Microwave ovens use them, too.

...the floating piece is a "keeper"

Yes, old style alnico magnets can gradually lose their magnetism without the keeper. It in essence completes the magnetic circuit. Unlike an electrical charge, where a short circuit would dissipate the charge, the magnetic "charge" requires the complete circuit to be sustained.

I missed out on this metal foreman's table. Just before closing I was about to make an offer when a guy in front of me did the same. My offer was going to be $50, he offered $100 so I let him have it and helped him carry it out. He told his wife in passing that he'd bargain the estate seller down to "just $300." Her eyes bulged and she was about to let him have it, then she saw my smile and knew he was playing a joke on her.

This would have been a good dedicated surface for shop manuals and to watch Youtube instructional videos on the laptop without cluttering the workbench. Probably would take up too much space for my 2 car garage though.

Thanks! Great to know something about it! That gives me some info to research on.

Got 6' long 28" deep Lyon steel workbench for $75. I'd been needing a workbench for a while and it'd be perfect. Will likely mount it on beefy locking casters.

Just one item of interest at yard sales on Saturday.

Pic 1-6 shows a cast iron notary public seal/embosser with State of Ohio emblem and marked Hamilton County.

Didn't find mfg marked on cast iron portion, but did find "The M.C. Lilley & Co" of Columbus Ohio name on the upper portion of the seal (see pic 5)

M.C. Lilley Co., began its existence in 1865 as a publisher and book bindery, but later morphed into the world’s largest manufacturer and supplier of regalia, clothing and equipment that outfitted the members of the Masonic Temple, Knights of Pythias, Knights Templar, International Order of Odd Fellows of the world and commemorative Civil War items as well.

The company name changed a bit in 1882 to "The M.C. Lilley & Co" and continue that way till 1925. It would be during that period, that the stamp would have been made for the seal/embosser.

Been in kind of a dry spell lately. Today was ok, but not quite what I was hoping for.

4 c clamps: Wilton, Jorgensen, and 2 williams. Modified Proto screwdriver, OTC line up bar, fuse puller, Williams socket, Thorsen socket, 3 bottles of STP oil additive, fractional drill gage, and 2 handles.
c73091f6da29f6a2ce3efe46b10722ea.jpg
Also got a plastic organizer for my taps and a wooden crate that I didn't take a picture of. Spent another hour at the flea after getting all this but didn't see anything that I wanted/needed bad enough to pay retail prices for.

Have had very little time for flea markets recently, but here's the little haul last weekend:

Pics 1&2: all for $2
Proto long handled screwdriver in nice shape, 3 Proto sockets, an unknown bicycle wrench, and a Vaco BeCu non-sparking screwdriver (very neat!)

Pics 3&4: $5
Big pair of scissors, I probably overpaid but I don't see huge scissors often.

Pic 5&6: $5
Vintage Craftsman small tool box, very good shape as far as rust and dents go, the paint job leaves a bit to be desired. Anybody know what color it should be? What vintage would it be?

Well I had been on the lookout for a decent bench-top drill press. And what should greet me the moment I walk inside the local re-store? A Dayton 12" 1/3hp. Maybe not the greatest but it will serve well for what I need (pilot holes for drifting larger holes in hot metal)

IIRC, that version of the Crowntop logo, combined with the handle style, places the toolbox in the early to mid 60's.

Got a 6' long 28" deep Lyon steel workbench for $75. I'd been needing a workbench for a while and it'd be perfect. Will likely mount it on beefy locking casters.

And all the tools on top of the workbench for $50, including a corded 3/8 Craftman drill and a Skil-saw.

The hand tools include some Hazet, Proto, SK and a cool old 1/2" Bonney socket wrench that requires pushing out the drive axle and pushing it in the other way to reverse the ratchet direction (it was $0.50). Box of foot long lag screws and stakes. Not a bad haul.

Not sure why some of the photos appear rotated 90 degrees. They appear normal on my phone. Seems to happen randomly?

Jealous of that steel table. Those are real nice to have, and $75 is a nice price.

...an interesting Thomas Smith Snail brand DOE bearing "The Colchester Lathe Co Ltd" with 5/8&7/8UNC openings and about 11" long.
Awesome markings!

Without case, I found similar at sale last year.
I see a lot of GM Co 1/4-inch spinner handles with the sockets stored on the shank like that, and I've always thought it would've been ingenious to actually package a set that way. Probably also a case of the case disappearing, and not saying yours or dodge's are GM Co - in fact, I wholeheartedly agree with LesserSon that they're almost inevitably Duro/Indestro. Just sayin'.

OTC line up bar
If you don't mind, I'd be interested in seeing what the brand marking looks like!

Paltry take today at the Early Early Bird, but it was the opening Wednesday of the year at my second weekly flea market stop. My first stop only has the Early Bird on Friday. All this was from the same lot. Somebody’s grandpop's stuff.

I don’t collect much paper, unless it’s something relevant to my collecting niche. The last thing I picked up, as you may recall, was in my very first post of this thread this year – the 1951 PA hunting license, in the name of a 20-year-old girl, found inside a 3rd edition Rywell Muskets book!

This one isn’t that cool, but too cool to leave behind.

Gold-lettered on the cover of the leatherette folder it says National Machine Tool Builders Association

…and there’s a diploma inside.

The clamp/bracket/gage (not exactly sure what it is, honestly) is a Stanley. It has a slot (broken through on one end) for something to move in, and a 2-1/2” rule. Vaguely mitre-box-ish? I just liked the style of the forged-in branding.

Taking guesses on the other what’s-it. The t-handle and the block, which is threaded, are brass. The end is notched about a 1/4" on both sides

Saw pic on Letgo, but wasn't able to get in touch with seller.

Thought I recognized seller last name, so took a chance and made a call. Turned out call was to right person, so made arrangements to pick up a Prentiss 22, an Athol 616, Trenton 150 pound anvil and a large clock made by Electric Neon Clock of Cleveland OH.

Pics attached.

Swingress:

Will be selling the Trenton 150 lb anvil, but market is strong in our area.

Trenton was made in a couple of forges, but initially think this was made by Columbus Forge and Iron Co of Columbus OH due to the oval shaped depression on the underside of base.

Trenton also used a serial code that helps identify the age. On the front foot of mine is the 150 marked on far left which I think is to confirm the weight, while on far right is the following numbers of 183 12 7. On those, I'll need to do further research to find the approximate mfg date.

You are correct! The 150 is your weight in lbs. other euro anvils would be in the English hundred weight system and you would have 3 spaced numbers representing multiples of 112lbs, 28lbs, and 1lb respectively. I am fortunate to live in an area where anvils tend to hover around 2-2.60 per lb.

- .50 cal ammo box with a nice marking and an intact canvas strap handle.
- An axel re-threader, this one made by National (never heard of them) in Jackson, Michigan I have a very similar MAC.
- A pocket clip test light. I have a growing affinity for these and have picked up quite a few. I like the art deco housing on the lamp on this one.
- An L.S. Starrett V-block (no. 278). I pawed through that box for an hour looking for its mate and a yoke without any luck.

In the Too Rich for My Blood category was this:

20170519_072901_1495206178681_resized_zpsomf2volj.jpg

This is a WWII British Field Medical pannier, made of canvas, leather, and wicker over an iron frame, on iron reinforced wooden skids. It has a drop front panel that provides access to two drawers on the bottom, which were missing. There are chains on the back for rigging and hemp rope handles on each side for lifting. Other than a broken ******** the left-hand side of the drop front, some badly desiccated leather around the corner and side of the lid on the right, and it being extremely filthy (the canvas should be an almost lime/OD green, seen at the edge around the top). It was in pretty good condition with really nice markings. In addition to the "FIELD MEDICAL" and the red cross on the front, there was a red cross and a large "2" on either side.

The seller thought it was WWI, and US Army, and but I still couldn’t talk the guy down to what I was willing to pay.

I am a little sick with cheap a$$ regret now, but I'll get over it in a day or two.

Here's a similar one in better condition with much better photos for anyone with a "fetish with things you can put things in," as Nine puts it:
http://www.collectorsweekly.com/stories ... al-pannier

And in the Left Behind/Research category, this pic of a J.H. Williams 15" monkey wrench.

20170519_073846_resized_zpsosoeabpl.jpg

I have been looking for a 15-inch COES to go with an 8-inch COES for a Signal Corps kit (or, alternately, a pair of PEXTO's), but I suspect this one is too old (interwar, at least). The reason I snapped the pic was the odd branding. The 'J.H. Williams' makes sense. But I've never seen this logo before. Not < W > but < W&B >.

20170519_073841_resized_zpsnt3hgghp.jpg

I'm going to go fishing on the vintage board.

$5 all together.
Hibbard Spencer Bartlett 1/2" chisel
Craftsman crown top hammer loop
Bridgeport #351 Screwdriver
Coca-cola bottle opener (freebie)
And a set of craftsman -V- open end ignition wrenches, missing the 1/4" but it had a couple bonuses to make up for it.

I just found a very similar Williams "Vulcan" chain pipe vise a few weeks ago, Swing. Different model number.

BTW, to save people typing time... < W & B > on that Williams monkeywrench is Whitman & Barnes. Williams bought them out in 1920. My knowledge base clearly doesn't extend into the antique era. :)

Lots of nice finds guys! Having a hard tine keeping up as its slow around here!

Popped into a lone Estate/moving sale and got mostly supplies.

Not shown is a large glazed Pot for SWMBO to use in the garden. probably 16 high and 14 wide?

Supplies: two partial boxes of screws, a pair of bushings with some sort o seal - have ot look these up... a Propane fitting I need these periodically for projects; and my brand and style of pop up sprinkler heads, I have a corner lot and these get broken all the time by HS students that make a sport out of breaking anything in their path and littering my yard with fast food waste...

Tools a good size ax head, (only marking so far is an "M"), a pair of Wiss Snips and not shown because I forgot was an aluminum Triangle carpenters square.

Let me just highlight two purchases from the last couple days.

1. A 6.5 HP Yard Machines Chipper/Shredder for $50. Starts on the first pull....

2. A Craftsman King-Seeley Jointer for $30. I was so excited, I had to fire it up to give it a spin. I've been wanting one of these for a while, but they always want somewhere in the neighborhood of $100 in far worse shape than this one.

And #3. Not a tool, but really COOL. This inconspicuous blender box was full to the very tippy top with fireworks for $15. I'll be a happy American in about 46 days. :rocker: :shocking:

Checked out a Tool Consignment Sale yesterday. Mostly used & damaged electric & gasoline power tools of a Home Depotish brand mix (Ryobi, Dewalt, Milwaukee). Dented Husky and Stanley toolboxes. Nothing I really wanted. Monday is half-off, but I still won't want anything there.
This morning heading out in light rain to some neighborhood yard sales in Macungee (passed the Mack trucks entrance) with the wife, with a possibility of hitting the Quakertown flea market tomorrow morning. Getting out to as many spots as I can before major surgery next week.
Edit - yuck rain spoiled or cancelled most of the yard sales. One stop yielded 50 old DOEs and a couple 1/4dr ratchets all for $5. The ratchets are a Bonney V25 and an SK40970. Highlights include two Bonney DOES, a Bridgeport Hybar that looks like someone flattened it, three Blue Points (the Supreme is broken), three Indestros, two Fairmounts, andba lot of otherwise unmarked Made In USA. Also a couple Japanese and German wrenches.
What I did not buy, because I would rather sell my Lectrolite than buy more, was a Lectrolite Defiance O lug wrench. It was marked $3.
