Put a wire wheel on the right side (suggest adding a "spark arrester" as they also help arrest flying wires...
They may have dropped it and broken that corner, or cut it off for better WW/Buffer access, or both...![]()
The left side had a wire wheel that was essentially just a wheel with wire stubble - when I called about it I asked if he had the guard and he said "sure do!". The right guard was def cut, but being that the guard is cast iron, it being dropped and then cut is very plausible.
This model is an early one as there are no outer covers for the guards and it doesn't appear that there were originally spark arrestors as there are only two drilled & tapped holes for the eye shields on the top of the guards. Also, the tool rests were mounted to the guards rather than on a bar coming out of the base like seen in later 1950's models. I'm guessing this is from late 40's??
Either way, this is going into use methinks. It's beefier than my 1/3 hp craftsman block, which I think I may trade for some help moving a 400 lb butcher block.
