Was looking at a Honda self propelled mower. Tried to get HD to price match Lowe's price for a Husqvarna that had the same Honda engine. She wouldn't do a price match because they weren't same brand mowers. Then I asked her to discount the Honda 10 percent which would make them the same price. She agreed to the 10 percent discount and I walked out with a new Honda mower! Never hurts to ask!

FYI. They always accept Lowe's movers coupon. You can move as many times as you want to your same address and get it in the USPS mail.

I think they've cracked down on that. I did a few addresses (legit) to my current one... Two at one time... and another about a month later... I only got one of the mover packets with the lowes & other coupons....

But Lowes/HD will almost always give you 10% on a decent purchase if you ask because of how easy and the number of coupons they give out anyways....

Lowes won't send more than one coupon per year to the same address.

Most HDs will not accept the Lowe's coupons, but a few people have had success.

It's a lot simpler just to ask for a 10% discount - both HD and Lowes will give a 10% discount on request.

i have not found that to be true north of boston at HD, have not tried lowes.

You might have encountered an employee that is not following company policy, but you should be able to get the discount at any Lowes or HD, and any employee can give a 10% discount if asked. If you are having trouble with that, ask at the customer service desk. It's corporate policy to give a 10% customer satisfaction discount upon request.

Please tell us about a time when you asked for the discount and were refused, maybe we can help if we have more information.

a few weeks ago, in the danvers ma store, i bought twelve 36" LED shop fixtures similar to these:

http://www.homedepot.com/p/Commercial-Electric-3-ft-LED-Black-Shop-Light-54254141/206028863

i actually had a Lowes 10% coupon, hoping to get them to honor it, but i left it behind when i left that morning. going back to get it would have taken an hour that i didnt have. several of the employees recognize me (i am in there regularly) and i went to two or three of them and told them of my plight, and asked if there was anything they could do for me. all told me they were sorry, but there was nothing that they could do.

i needed the lights, so i went to the checkout, and told my story to the person there, and they just shrugged and charged my card.

Next time ask for an assistant manager, they probably would have given it to you. Or go to the garden section, those employees are always much nicer and easier to deal with.

Will most stores match the price on special buys if they have the item in stock?

For instance there is a Milwaukee drill driver kit that is online with 2 free batteries but not in store. The store has all of the same items just without the discount. Can they just discount the batteries?

There's a big display on one of the end caps in store. The deal is active there as i got the combo kit plus a hedge trimmer for $299 a couple of weeks ago.

+1. Though if you are nice they will often hook you up. Approval is required for a decent dollar amount.

This is 100% false. There is no corporate policy for a 10% discount upon request. Any associate that abuses markdowns at the POS terminal will eventually be terminated.

Any employee is empowered to markdown up to a certain dollar amount. It has nothing to do with a percentage. Above that dollar amount, there are different thresholds that need different levels of management to authorize.

If it's the combo here: http://www.homedepot.com/p/Milwauke...ack-XC-Batteries-2897-22-48-11-1822/301560547

I can tell you most stores would not. Those deals are to incentivize purchases through HomeDepot.com. Corporate is trying to grow the online business and will often offer online exclusive buys to drive sales through DotCom. That won't stop a DS or ASM from being a nice guy if they have markdown dollars to burn, but in no way, shape, or form are they obligated to match the online promotion.

I post information I have confirmed and is known to be correct. You are entitled to your opinion, I'm not going to debate it with you, but you can read the policy at the cs desk at any hd or lowes store.

Hmm, other than DSD's suggestion to ask the manager, the only suggestions I have are to ask at the customer service desk, and if they still say "no" tell them you will just go to Lowes. That "magic phrase" seems to make them a bit more cooperative, they are supposed to "do what it takes" to keep the sale from going to a competitor.

Correct they will not match the online special buys. However, what the customer service lady had me do last week on an ecobee3 purchase was buy online and select puck up in store. Purchased it on my phone standing at the customer service counter then she gave it to me once the order came through.

Why they just couldn't price match it, i have no idea.

Only verified true stuff you post?

Then post a photo of a sign in hd that says our policy is to give 10% off if you ask.

Also last year you posted that every piece of paper money has a chip in it and that is how they track returns and people scamming the system. Post that evidence too.

It's not an opinion. There is no policy at the "cs desk," or better known to actual employees as the Service Desk or Special Services Desk. The policy you're probably confusing I won't get into details on, but anyone who works at Home Depot will know what the terms empowered/empowerment means. And the details of this policy are certainly not available at the Desk or for customers to see.

For in-stock merchandise with the same model number, she could have. In our system, there is a reason code for this. Most associates are incorrectly informed that we do not meet prices on online competitors. This used to be the case, but is not current policy. There are restrictions to the match that can be found on our website. For example, we match "Shipped and sold by Amazon.com." We do not match 3rd party sellers or Sold by XXXX and Fulfilled by Amazon.com. If the site is outside of the major online retailers, generally a DS or ASM has to get involved. We also have to be able to access the site from our computers. Your phone or a print-out is not acceptable.

Not sure if this has been mentioned as I didn't see it in the search. First time I've seen the newer Husky 52" drawers discounted to $598.

They've been like that for a while. Those aren't the model with the soft-close drawers (at least not the ones in my store that are priced at $598)...

It is at my store! It goes like this off my memory:
I am empowered:
1) To be friendly and helpful to all customers.
2) To walk a customer to a product (not point).
3) To always stop what I am doing to help a customer.
4) To make sure nobody beats a HD price or I will beat it by 10%.
5) To offer the next best product at the same price up to a $50 discount if something is out of stock.

Head to the bathroom near millwork, and you pass the break room bulletin board wall. One the one with all the wage and local law stuff that never changes, is a sign reminding folks of their empowerment, "no questions asked" to satisfy a customer and keep a sale:
Associates: up to $50 instant discount
Department Heads: up to $100 discount
Assistant Manager: up to $500 discount
Manger: up to $1000 discount

Now this store is literally attached to a corporate regional office and never has any unicorn clearance deals or anything else, but that **** is clear as day and I have read it hundreds of times waiting in the self checkout line or outside the bathroom for my wife. It may be old and still there, none are pretty looking, but as a general customer its not being hidden at all.

The regional offices will do what they want, but that stuff definitely should not be customer facing, especially the markdown limits. All of the SOPs (official documents containing policies and procedures) have warnings on them stating the standard "This information is property of the Home Depot and is confidential, bla bla bla."

Actually these are the ones with the soft close drawers. I bought one and they're normally $698. The other set is also $598 without soft close drawers and those have chrome along the drawers.

HD is inconsistent with coupon usage, I have often found it difficult to get them to accept a competitor's coupon. It's easier to just get the 10% off, or the usual 30% ($15 off $50) at Lowes.

Oh cool, just checked that SKU... $598 at my store with 1 in stock. Probably up in the rafters as I've never seen that one on the floor... Tempting...

Here's the deal - regardless of what corporate policy is, the store employees at every level to the highest manager often do whatever they feel like. When I bought my toolbox, I called and spoke with whoever was in charge who said no problem... 10% off. Then I got there and she refused to honor the deal after a 1 hour round trip drive. Bye... picked up what I needed at Menards and left them sitting there with $1500 of stuff.

Called and offered another store to do a similar deal a week or two later... the Menards sale was coming up with 11% off. They refused to give me any discount. Waited a week and bought everything on sale PLUS the 11% rebate.

When I bought my carpeting, same deal... paid for a measure... sure we'll honor Lowes coupon. Went to purchase, nope we don't honor that.

These experiences are with 3 different stores, though perhaps all in the same district. You have $12/hr employees anywhere, you're going to see a lot of variations though.

This is because they don't do it often and many don't know how. When I use one, they have to ask for help or don't ring it up as a competitor coupon about 75% of the time.

Home Depot Score...

I don't often post (as you tell from my meager post count) but since I have received a lot of mileage from the Hot Deals threads I thought I would pass this along. I ran into my local Milford, Ohio Home Depot to pick up LED trailer marker lights. I happened to pass by the automotive chemicals and there were cans of R134a for $10 - marked down from I think $13 or $14 - can't remember. That may not be a really big score but when I picked out the LED trailer lights I noticed another light nearby I wanted to use for my 55 Ford Courtesy Map Light under the dash. I think it was $3 and some change. Went to ring it up and lo and behold the .01 deal shows up!!!! ding, ding, ding! Never had it before, never looked it up, etc but there it was as plain as day. I picked up a few more to put in other areas in the car since originally it was not lit too well.
