It's not an opinion. There is no policy at the "cs desk," or better known to actual employees as the Service Desk or Special Services Desk. The policy you're probably confusing I won't get into details on, but anyone who works at Home Depot will know what the terms empowered/empowerment means. And the details of this policy are certainly not available at the Desk or for customers to see.
It is at my store! It goes like this off my memory:
I am empowered:
1) To be friendly and helpful to all customers.
2) To walk a customer to a product (not point).
3) To always stop what I am doing to help a customer.
4) To make sure nobody beats a HD price or I will beat it by 10%.
5) To offer the next best product at the same price up to a $50 discount if something is out of stock.
Head to the bathroom near millwork, and you pass the break room bulletin board wall. One the one with all the wage and local law stuff that never changes, is a sign reminding folks of their empowerment, "no questions asked" to satisfy a customer and keep a sale:
Associates: up to $50 instant discount
Department Heads: up to $100 discount
Assistant Manager: up to $500 discount
Manger: up to $1000 discount
Now this store is literally attached to a corporate regional office and never has any unicorn clearance deals or anything else, but that **** is clear as day and I have read it hundreds of times waiting in the self checkout line or outside the bathroom for my wife. It may be old and still there, none are pretty looking, but as a general customer its not being hidden at all.
