Walnut Tool Chest - Whats it worth?

I've had this wooden tool chest sitting in the back corner of the house's storage room for a friend for years now. There's a small amount of warping on the top cabinet but nothing serious, it has a shelf on the inside as well. The tool box is a combination of either solid walnut planks or thick walnut veneer. The inside of the drawers I believe are pine due to what seems to be a soft grain structure versus what I've seen with oak. It also has solid walnut mounts and supports to hang on a wall.

He decided he wanted didn't want it anymore and asked if I could help sell it for him. I already have enough storage for my things as well so I'm not really interested in keeping it myself despite it being a really awesome piece. So the question is, what should I put the asking price at? I don't really have anything to base it off of but was hoping someone here, of all people, would have encountered something like this and would have some info for me. I sort of have a price in mind but I would like to hear some other input. Much appreciated!

Dimensions are

Outside: 32 x 61 x 18 inches

Inside drawers: 29 x 16 inches

Their stack able so they can be rearranged.

Looks more like a mid-century modern clothes dresser than a tool box to me. That sort of furniture is hot these days, I'd sell it for a profit. There's a store here in St. Paul that specializes in that sort of thing, I'd guess if it were in their store it would have a price tag in the $800 range.

It was picked up from a legal firm that was leaving town so I assume they were using it as a filing system for office supplies or something of that sort. The drawers seem to be pretty small for clothes, however, I am a pretty large guy so I'm sure 3 shirts would be the equivalent to one of my shirts since I wear thick tall cotton shirts.

I checked it out when it was brought in and fits hand planes like a glove if you fit them sideways. I figured it would be worth more trying to sell it as a tool box than it would be furniture. In my city, furniture isn't valued highly at all but tools, toolboxes, and equipment are valued at extreme amounts.

Sell it as intended, not as pretended.

I saved the images here on the site so they're easier to see. I also sent the pictures to my brother, who's a little bit of an authority on this kind of furniture to see what he thinks.

What town are you in? If it's something you think isn't worth much as furniture there, there may be another town or location nearby where it would be. I still think using it as a toolbox is not the best idea, to the right person in the right place I think it's worth a bunch of money.

Those wall hangers and shelf supports have some value if they are original Cado Royal, which they sure look like.

Poul Cadovious

EDIT - looking at the rest of the pieces it is almost certainly the remains of a Pool Cadovious wall unit. In San Francisco the three larger pieces and the shelf supports would probably be a $1200 item. If you had the full length supports maybe a bit more if you were to hang it and shoot it.

Here's some of your parts:

I'm located in Tucson, and thanks for uploading the images for me since I can't seem to get photobucket to imbed it into the thread

My concern of furniture versus toolbox is due to the low demand, unless its practically free, that I've seen on furniture versus anything tool related. This piece resembles a toolbox, and being made of veneered walnut and such as well as the large amount of woodworkers that seem to be in the city, I thought of trying my luck of selling it as a toolbox rather than furniture. Theres no manufacturer on the pieces that could hint as to what its original purpose was and seems to have the drawers that are small enough height wise that makes me doubt it was meant for clothing. The drawers are about 3 inches in height except for the bottom one on each stack which are about 6 inches tall.

Also the idea that it was picked up from the law firm using it as office supply storage also raises my doubts on what its intended use is for.

Theres also a matter of the supports and that it is stackable, I haven't seen furniture that looks like this that has stackable pieces as well as mounts and shelving supports which is why I have my doubts. :dunno:

Love to hear back on what your brother thinks.

I'd say yours is almost 100% a clothing drawer, it may be a lingerie or linens some other type of delicates item if its not robust enough for normal use items. Also, at 30-32 inch wide you have to look at the slides.

Below is a classic wood machinist/toolbox for reference.

Looks like a media cabinet to me. I would be very surprised if there isn't a furniture market in Tucson. Take better pics, turn a light on this time, and shop it to a few furniture dealers/antique stores.

Chris nailed it. Poul Cadovious mid century Danish design modular wall unit with additional brackets. It should have been on the Mad Men set.

Ask Mr Google for assistance. Somebody out there is probably looking for this stuff and will pay. Anyway, it would make a less than adequate tool box.

Chris hit it right on the money :eyecrazy: . Thanks! Ill look further into it and see if I can't figure out what a monetary value for it would be. Thank you for the help!

Socket Pounder, from what I've seen, the "normal" furniture market is a crapshoot. I'm not sure why but it may have something to do with the cost of living and a combination of resellers that come across the border to buy furniture dirt cheap for resell as from what I've been told the market for "american" furniture is in high demand. However, antique furniture in Tucson is huge, better than the tool market so this discovery is even better.

Looks like Chris is right, based on the pictures on Google. I sent the pics to my brother and he forwarded them to his friend who runs a mid-century modern furniture store, I haven't heard back from that guy yet on a possible value.

If you Google "Poul Cadovious", one of the current hits is a listing on etsy that appears to be similar or identical to what's posted here. The listing price is $1250, and I don't think it's NOS like this one. Definitely too nice and too expensive to use as a garage toolbox.
