Finally got this project started. Since I needed to be 30' from my property line I needed to put the garage behind my house. Its not a bad spot for it, but the driveway ate up most of my backyard space. So to compromise, over the summer I cut down about 40 trees in my woods and cleared out a large area behind the garage. Now I have plenty of space again. Here are some pics of the project. On 11/16 the building is going to be built. I'll make sure to update with pics.

Party is definitely coming. The inspector not only charges me but then craps and pisses all over my yard. Wish I could have that job.

I am not familiar with block wall building, is there some sort of skin that is applied on the outside of the block? I don't see any joints on the outside.

The mason added a layer of cement to the outer block. Sometimes they don't add this layer, but I thought it would protect it better and make it look nicer. Once its all done only the top block will be showing, which I may paint a different color.

What is that beam going to be holding up? It seems large.

Your making fast progress though.

Thanks. The beam is to support the second floor. The roof trusses don't have any knee walls for the floor joist support.

Dumb question I suppose, but was this a pre-fab of some kind? It looks like the walls were trucked in already built up.

Thanks.

The company that I'm using does do prefab sheds and garages. But they agreed to build my garage on site due to me having a footers and other features that I wanted. The 3 side walls did come prefab'ed from the factory though.

Looks great. Looking forward to seeing some more progress.

I can only fit a 20 x 18 structure I think, with a second floor for storage.

I'm torn between block or wooden walls!

Thats a sweeeeet garage!

Is the top gonna be for storage or will you have stairs going up into it?

That would make a cool loft/den

The end of day 2. I'm going to build a deck off the backside for exterior access. As far as plans for what I'm doing with the upstairs...I'm using it for storage ;)

What company is doing the construction. Curious because I just poured footers for my 24x48 and like those trusses.

I created drew up the trusses and a lumber company built them. I can send you the blueprint if you'd like.

Unfortunately my township restriction is 800 sq ft. For me to fit all my toys in a garage I'd need a 28x48.

Is that storage loft going to require any plumbing or electrical service? I know I wouldn't mind if my storage areas had running water and a few outlets,. you know in case my storage wants to drink a cold beer but can't get to the house because the door is 20' up in the air

Might I suggest that you dig your openings for the overhead doors down to your footer or buried block wall and let the floor pour rest on the footer. Otherwise, unless you don't get frost where you live, you are going to get the floor heaving in the winter, right at the middle of each door opening. Another weather related suggestion, run a 1x1 or 1 1/2 x 1 1/2 angle iron flush with the inside of your block wall, across each door opening at the height of the finished floor...set a form on the outside of the block wall slightly below the bottom edge of the angle iron. This will create a slightly pitched section of floor that is lower than your main floor for the door to close on. You will never get a drop of rain or wind driven snow coming into the garage under the doors. One last suggestion...buy the roofer a chalk line. :)

Thanks Mark and everyone else. I'm surely proud to have a garage like this. Tcianci thanks for the slab advice. I'll talk to my mason about your suggestion.

Great looking garage. I love the gambrel roofs. Can you send the drawings my way too? (or just attach them to a post here) Thanks.

OK, I see the link above to the google doc, but it's not working...
Greg.

That is a beautiful garage. A 22' wide one would go nicely at the bottom of my garden, unfortunately it would cut out all the sunlight from my garden and that of my neighbours!

I think the siding is called Duratemp, almost the same as T1-11. Here is a picture of the deck.
