Can one buy individual metal drawer assemblies?

I have a smallish workbench that has a space under it for drawers. Right now the drawers are basically plastic boxes that slide in and out of wooden cubbies. I would like to replace this arrangement with toolchest-like drawers.

Is there anyplace I can go to buy toolchest-style metal drawers and slides without buying the whole toolchest? I've asked Mr. Google and Mr. Amazon, and they have not been helpful, but maybe I just haven't asked the right question.

Check the Rockler Woodworking catalog. They definitely have the slides.

I had a similar situation after I made my work bench. I put my chest freezer under it on wheels like a drawer, but then had about 4" of space above it. I wanted a single drawer in that space. After some head scratching I noticed a spare shelf from my cabinet was about the size of the drawer I wanted. I framed it with some 3"x1/8" flat bar and built some hangers to mount it to the underside of the work bench. It came out great.

Those actually look like just what I want, if I can jimmy some generic slide hardware onto them. The problem is that most of the websites seem to have the dimensions wrong. For instance, this drawer is described both by Sears and by Amazon as Craftsman 18197-EBK 2-Inch Drawer for Tool Chest, Black:

But Amazon lists its dimensions as 4 x 3 x 1 inches. Clearly that's not correct, but those are the only dimensions I find.

I bought an extra drawer & frame for under a service cart a few years back. Iirc i got it from a parts store.

Sunnex had one for $56 if you google add-on drawer for service cart. Looked like it came with frame and slides too

Ordering replacement drawers from Craftsman is an OK way to go. I replaced several drawers in my Cman toolbox a few years ago by ordering stock CMan drawers and slides. Take a look at my Craftsman Tool Box Drawer Modification thread:

and look at post #14. Cman doesn't offer an unlimited selection of sizes. They offer only drawer sizes that are replacement for their boxes, but if you can identify a Cman box with drawers of the size you want you can just order replacements and make your own drawer frame.

In the pro-sound business we use Middle Atlantic drawers in our equipment racks. In these photos you can see the flange on both sides of the front that are designed to be screwed to an equipment rack. You could just attach them to a piece of wood on each side.

All the drawers will be about 18" wide inside. The heights are based on rack spaces, and 2U would be two rack spaces high, which would be the shortest.

Middle Atlantic are the best. great drawer slides.

I'm having a pit box made that I can use in the shop for all my tools and then roll it into the trailer. We're using a large Premium Craftsman lower tool chest that is being set in a welded 1"x1" steel frame. It's have large, easy to roll tires with steering in the front and a disc brake. I'm trying to hold the weight down so I was concerned about the extra weight the "box" brings with it. I got a really, really good deal on the box last winter at Sears. I don't weld, so I'm having a great fabricator build it for me.

I specifically looked for a box with GripLatch/GripLock drawers so they drawers won't open while the box is being moved around or in the trailer.

Even before this box is done, I'm thinking about building V2.0 using 80/20 extruded aluminum for the frame and then sources drawers. I was planning on buying another tool box, pulling the drawers and slides, and then fitting them into the 80/20 frame.

I wish this thread had been started earlier!
