I was sick of holding out for this new SK, so I bought a Dual 80 a few weeks ago. It should last a lifetime of heavy DIY use and I don't really need another ratchet.

But...I still really want one of these. Thanks GJ!

The ones that HJE has in stock, according to the photo he shared on instagram, have the smooth handle

80290 Does appear to be the model number assigned to the yet to be released- S-K Hand Tools 3/8" Flex Teardrop Ratchet

Model # & photo @

When....:dunno:

It appears in the photo, that the flex head is secured with a pin instead of a screw. I hope it's a screw and not a pin :dunno:

What about Cornwell handles?
The classic all metal coke bottle shaped cornwell handle is a joy to use:thumbup:

Afaik the only SK flex head that has a screw at the joint is the roto ratchet. All of their round head flex have pins.

No interest in that slippery done to death handle. They should of kept the "prototype". Easy pass until they introduce more versions.
Hoping they do offer some old school knurled handles in the future. Until then, I have my smooth handled Dual 80s I barely use.

Hell, just throw the new head on the oldschool flex handle, and I'm in.:D

Just got off the phone with SK in regards to the other models/drive size. They couldn't give me a date of availability, but said I should expect them to be available closer to the holiday season.

I like the Dual80 handles, but I always wear gloves these days.

I liked the other handle. I have fairly large hands though so a big hunka steel fits me better than the slim handles.

I don't need another 3/8 short ratchet. I hope they build a little longer non-flex version, say about 11", similar to the fl80. I've been wanting an fl80 but I very much like this new SK.

I'm gonna try and hold out for flex handle or maybe a long flex handle. On the other hand I don't currently own a fine tooth pear head standard length ratchet in 3/8" drive so.....

Why is a pin not a good thing? I think a screw would be better but for the average guy not using the ratchet every day, it seems like the pin should hold up. Assuming it is designed well.

Knurling is a deal breaker. I want one, but my 90 tooth Protos have knurling and perform like champs. I wanted another knurled ratchet to fill in a few gaps. I guess just add me to the 45% of people who are the same. Hoping for one like the prototype with knurling. Different strokes I suppose.

Given that this is a tool forum, who here has a lathe and a knurling apparatus?

What would happen if a person tried to home-knurl a chromed ratchet handle? I suppose that would damage the chrome, and it'd fall off around the knurling. Damn.

I'd love to find a tooling set-up for knurling pistons--the one made by Perfect Circle, where the knurl was

Somewhere in the very back of my mind, I think they called it "piston knurlizing".

Well officially disappointed in my first HJE order! I got an e-mail yesterday (6/14) saying my ratchet shipped. But as of 4PM today (6/15) the tracking status says that USPS is still waiting for the item to be dropped off at the post office.

I was hoping to be able to tryout the ratchet this weekend changing my Radiator, but I doubt that's going to happen now. Hopefully it's just USPS's tracking system being weird, and it was actually shipped on the 14th. Otherwise what's the point of offering 2-day shipping if you're just going to sit on the item until the end of week? Going on that further, why say the item has "shipped" when it hasn't?

That happens with nearly all items purchased anywhere on the internet. It happens just about every time I order anything from anywhere. I would not hold this against HJE. Also, the USPS is super slow in updating their database. Your item could have shipped yesterday and USPS could be sand bagging.

USPS tracking system isn't all that good. It if it's priority and you're not too far, 2 day is normal.

I generally only buy from E-Bay, NewEgg and Amazon, and the item is almost always out the door the same day or next day at the latest. I have no problem if a place takes a few days to get an item to the shipper, but it irks me when the seller says the item has shipped, but it actually hasn't.

Now there's an understatement. I've had products in my hand before it showed up as shipped. Their system is terrible.

You'd chew the chrome up, plus I'm not sure how well a knurling tool would knurl a heat treated steel forging. Probably not too well.

As a seller, you don't get a choice, it usually registers as shipped when you print the label. that done you go bed, go to work drop the box at the post office on the way home only to find 9 irate messages from the customer:bounce:

Well, I too ordered on the 14th and my tracking number shows it has departed the Kansas facility today at 3:40am.
