No way I'd pay $950 for hoist install not including electrical, but how much of that is delivery? Can't really comment on the price of the electrical, but is he willing to have you pull in the cables and do most of the work if he inspects and terminates? Not sure if anyone does that any more, but it would probably save you a bundle.

. I note that you have all 15 amp outlets these will require a separate circuit each.
. Does your home main switchboard require an upgrade?

Agreed, gutter guard does look really good. Trying to find a similar thing for tiles.... no luck so far ...

The same guys do a version of this that goes up and under the 2nd row of tiles. Maybe give them a call.

I've got a video of the last Brisket i did. Difficult to post it on the forum though.

I'd do the install myself but I need it delivered. Plus they'll certify it for safety if they install it.

There's all the info on them.

No upgrade required on the house switchboard. He's just adding another breaker for the shed.

There's actually only 2x 15a outlets the rest is 10amp. Will only need 1 circuit extra.

Lets say there is 4 days ( generous ) for a tradesman and apprentice.

4 x 8 hours x $100 = $3200

4 x 8 hours x $ 50 = $1600

Total labour = $ 4800

and I can't see there is $3700 worth of materials in the job considering you have the lights.

Yeah man that's what I'm thinking too. No way it's gonna take 4 days of work either.

Your $100 an hour seems overly generous too. I get that these guys hafta put food on the table but I just hate paying for things I'm confident in doing myself.

I did a quick add up off a electrical wholesaler website and got to about $1300 in materials.

One comment is make sure you have clear access to the switch board so you are not leaning over the bench to get to it..

A minor thing that got to me. When the vehicle needed light, it was over the top, it needed to be along the sides, so I moved mine so that they shine down between the vehicles, and when on the hoist it would shine into the engine bay and cabin when lifted.

Thanks for this. The outlets for light are just outlets that I'll be wiring the lights all around the roof area. I'll be doing that part of it myself with the help of a mate so we can position the lights where we need them most.

Have taken note of your advice for sure.

Good thinking. Yeh, I laid out my lights as Terrick describes too. Also gave me more ceiling clearance above my hoist.

So i got another couple of quotes on the electrical annnnnd finally settled on a $4600 quote from a mob that was very detailed with the quote.

Their guys are turning up tomorrow at 6am to get the ball rolling on the job.

Hoist provision is the big orange cable coiled in the roof beam.

great to see you finally getting power in the shed mate! Its a great feeling being able to use the shed for work, and not have to run extension leads from the house into the garage to run a floodlight.

Read a few pages ago your into American BBQ'n. My Best mate does it too, competes in a team, they have gone all over NSW to compete, i think he has even gone to Melbourne for a competition. What set up do you have for your smoker? i know they get pretty elaborate, My friend uses a big Radar hill smoker that's mounted on a duel axle trailer. He tows it around everywhere.

Hey Rudi, I've got a Bbqs Galore Kamado Dragon. Its small compared to your mates radar hill! But is an awesome little fella that makes a mean brisket.

I actually bought the Kamado that was used as a prop to film the subway pulled pork advert. Got it on gumtree from the guy who produced the ad. Was brand new because they just used dry ice to make the smoke effect.

Electricians are all done. Only a couple of snall things I'm disappointed about. Mainly because if I was home I could've suggested better things.

1. They ran the wiring on the outside of the mains box on the house. They were already info the roof and just got lazy I think.

2. I got a 8 circuit sub breaker in the shed where i would have preferred a 12

Overall they did mostly what I told them and it is pretty neat.

I agree with your comment about your electricians doing a neat job but in some cases a tradesman needs to do a bit more to make it look finished like it was done with some pride in their workmanship.
Its a pity you dont live a bit closer or I could cut and fold a colourbond box/cover the same colour as your shed wall and some others to cover the conduit on your house.
Sometimes its these little things that just finish off the job the right way that makes all the difference, just because its done to the correct specs it doesnt mean you dont have to worry about what it looks like.

Looking forward to when you hard wire your lift Im sure it will look as good as it should.

Is there a reason that orange conduit was used rather than grey ? Even painting the orange away might help some ! I do like the forward planning with the extra, empty conduits !!!

Orange was used as I had spare sticks. No reason for its use on the mains box on the house though.

I had all intention to paint or cover the conduit on the house and shed.

Ok I sent a really nicely worded email to the electrician saying I was very happy with the job they'd done except for the mains box here:



I got an SMS back from the guy who did the job saying when I've got the hoist he will come out and wire it for me and re-wire the mains box inside the wall cavity.
