Dang! I turned the wrong way at the show!
Who gives away a FREE motorcycle ??????
Anyway .....
Stop #3 was another planned YS. At this point the clouds were getting ready to spritz, so the seller was ready to deal. I spent $10 here on two items.
Craftsman (USA) 506.51801 3-1/2” vise. (rusty, but fixable. Originally marked $15)
21/32” pressed steel socket (unbranded. As far as I can tell, not Ray, Mossberg, or Hinsdale)

After the "mall," we travelled to an estate sale, before going to a flea mkt about 10 miles away.
At the estate sale, things had been picked over, but the sellers were still digging out stuff, and the rain was keeping away shoppers. So they were making very aggressive prices. I love when that happens!
First item I looked at was this old band saw. The removable side is plastic, the table is cast aluminum. Label shows ValueCraft of Springfield, Mass. But it's definitely Asian-made. It looked nice, considering, and when the seller saw me looking at it he said, "It runs great. Let me plug it in and show you."

I asked for the price first, so we wouldn't both waste our time. He replied that it was marked with green tag.

I thought, "Yeah, right!" But when he walked over and looked he said that $3 was indeed the price!
He plugged in it, and smiled proudly at me when the motor fired right up. But I pointed out that only the motor was running. We pulled the side off, and found that the drive belt was missing.

He stepped back and smiled and said, "So it is, so it is. Ok then, it's YOURS. Just take it. For free!" I loaded it in my truck, before he might change his mind.

1/3 hp motor is Taiwan made.

Here is the brand-name tag:

Each of the pulleys have some kind of rubber ring around them, apparently to cushion the blade (for noise-reduction, maybe?). The rubber ring was broken and falling off of one pulley. I wonder if I'll be able to find replacements?

Believe it or not, this band saw seems to claim to be able to be used for metal or wood. Doesn't seem stout enough to cut much in the way of metal. What do you guys think?
![]()
I'm wondering if these two pulleys line up closely enough? It seems like only one belt would run straight. Would the others be able to survive at so sharp an angle, do you think?

I realize it is not a high quality unit. But the price was right! It would be so cool if it turned out to be "good enough" for light work around my home shop.![]()
The only other items I bought there were some old fishing lures, and one good USA-made Wizard brand 4-way lug wrench. It is just about the perfect size, heavily made, and plated. I love these things, and like to keep them everywhere I have vehicles with tires and wheels. This one cost me $2 (I'll leave the lures off of this thread, since they are not "tools," or garage related.)

A fine morning out to the big flea market with the Missus. Sunshine and a nice breakfast of eggs and fried potatoes.
First all Bonney, then some Snap-On, "Lectrolite Defiance, O.", Barcalo, and others. Finally a couple sacks.
Not purchased: a lovely 1930ish Brazil toolbox with leather handle and removable tray.
Went out to an estate sale on Thursday. Fairly far away, but looked to be a good find. Get there and it is a huge warehouse kind of building, started poking around. My 3yo found a couple of hard hats which we were obligated to wear for the rest of the sale.
All told, it cost me $35 total to get out of there. The main pile was $20, and then threw in a couple more sockets for an extra $2 to make it an even $35. Feels like a good sale. If anyone wants detailed pics, or is interested in some items, please let me know.
The little flea mkt we were headed to is a small one, and we were running late…mid afternoon on a Sunday. So my expectations weren’t high. First several vendors were a waste, and then I saw a guy with tools, equipment, and hardware. I scored a couple items there…one which will appeal to our loyal yard sale pal, Jeff Moss.

Yep, it’s a cool older wrench, painted to protect it from rust. When I flipped it over and saw the brand, I knew Jeff was gonna want it. I’ve been holding a couple of Klein tools, an old padlock, and some locksmith stuff for him for a while. So now let’s see if he is watching this thread…

The package price was $25. I was very satisfied.![]()

Dang Marty, summer just started and I'm going to run out of "you *****".
But yeah, YOU ****!
LesserSon- thanks for posting the Brazil box. I took pics of an interesting but expensive cantilever box not long ago. Hopefully I can get the pics off my phone.
Outlaw - looks like you are having some good luck there lately for sure.
Found this on the side of the road with a sign that said "free runs fine" . Needs a tune up but I think it will be a quick flip.

EDIT: You said NOT PURCHASED. Sorry. So what's the story?
You got a Brazil too box?!? Why hasn't this been posted in the vintage tool boxes thread?!? I don't care what you paid for it ... you ****!

I hit a random sale on Saturday and saw a really nice Rapid 100 mounted on a bench. After that was a no go I asked if he had any other vises. He then said he had a small one in a box on the shelf behind me and I can have it for $20.
I was not expecting to see a baby Wilton upside down in the small box. This is my first baby found in the wild and its in great shape. Very happy.

Apparently mowers grow out of the Earth in New England much like Vises fall out of the sky in Michigan.
You **** Bagged!

Sweet find! Grats!Scored a craftsman drill press and a 1/2 block and various rusty tools tonight for $60 off offer up! The Dp motor is dated 1954 and has a varislow option on it! I will restore the Dp and most likely part out the grinder? I need the side shields and bulb cover but other parts are fair game! I am super stoked about the varislow !
