Thank you! I was mostly wondering about how they "rode the rails", but I can see its a simple Z Clip spot welded on the ends. Thanks again!

Definitely a power tool box/case. I think your guess is spot on. Either it's for a drill or a router. I don't think Dremel type tools existed during the Crown Top era (~1962-1974).

I know what you mean ... Not enough room but too cool to leave it. I guess I need a bigger shop!Found a Heritage Logo Craftsman top box over the weekend at the flea. I'm running out of space for these boxes but I couldn't leave it behind.

Wow that looks good, Brent. Someday I have a goal of being that organized, for about a day then I'll start three new projects and the tool bomb will go off.
This comment made me literally laugh out loud!

That's a pretty neat cart. I'd offer lower but if it passed inspection I'd pay pretty close to that price. This 1975 snap on showed up on cl. How much is it actually worth? Worth the asking price?

Brent's pic is my goal, Reality isn't even close...![]()

Comp, take a close look at both the bottom and the top; one or the other, possibly a bit of both, has been bent trapezoidal. You need to figure which direction, then put some reverse tension on it.

In the early 1960's my father came home with a used Craftsman electric die grinder. It had a 1/8" collet and had a blue wrinkle finish. The trim was silver and if I remember correctly, the logo was the one prior to the Crown Top.
Unfortunately, it died (probably worn out brushes) and was discarded after I left home. He replaced it with a Dremel kit in the 1970's.
I think Provincial has it. I found some eBay evidence & photos via Google Images. Sears called it Rotary Grinder, Electric Die Grinder, or similar variations. Don't suppose anyone has seen an old Sears/Craftsman tool catalog that included the metal box?
And then the next question: Any recommendations for rust removal & the basics of beginners toolbox/sheet metal restoration?
Found another one today
Certainly isn't vintage, but couldn't find another toolbox thread:

New ProSteel 6-drawer combo available w/ minor shipping damage. Listed price is $200; Lowes has it for $251 (was $279). Is this stuff any good? Any advice on an offer?
Just got this yesterday from a local ad. It's in great condition, just needs a layer of dust and dirt removed from it from sitting in a garage since 1979. Even has the set of original keys for both boxes. Look forward to cleaning it up this weekend with a mild soap and water solution. The seller held the box a few days for a guy that said he'd pick it up last night but he never showed so I was next in line. $200.
OK, I have Before and After pics of the 1954 Craftsman!
And there were really no major, or even minor dents in it anywhere!
I'm happy with how it came out. All the Drawers were painted inside and out, and all the rust is gone, primed, and painted Hammer-Tone Grey (Rustoleum).
I did about 1/2 the prep and the kids did the other half. in the before pics, the red corner on one drawer was where I used spotting putty to smooth out the damage the sopt welder did when I re-welded that corner.
All the spot welds in the vertical edge were popped loose as were a couple on the bottom edge. The side "collapsed" a bit and the damaged drawer would hit on the bottom drawer front. All better now!
4 rollers on 2 drawers were replaced with washers by the PO, and I didn't like that. The rollers were 1" diameter bearings, and the local hardware stores were of no help, nor was my collection of misc. bearings. What I did get was some shower door rollers that were 7/8" and other than having to make and install 4 drawer stops for the 3rd and 4th drawers, they work great!
Enough talk; here are the pics:

Thanks Brian.
You should have seen the "before" state (I forgot to get that pic...) that second to bottom drawer had had the spot welds break and it was dragging on the left side. I de-rusted, and used my spot welder to get it back together, then cleaned it up (which is why the body spot paste in that corner...
Pony, That MBC looks identical to the 50's era SO Workcenter, so I suspect that MBC made them for SO.
Those bin/card files, are great parts bins! I have 5 similar units and love them. Most I see are 18 drawers that yours is 24 is a plus!
How deep is it? 17" or 12"?
