Who gives away a FREE motorcycle ?????? :wtf:

Anyway .....
Stop #3 was another planned YS. At this point the clouds were getting ready to spritz, so the seller was ready to deal. I spent $10 here on two items.
Craftsman (USA) 506.51801 3-1/2” vise. (rusty, but fixable. Originally marked $15)
21/32” pressed steel socket (unbranded. As far as I can tell, not Ray, Mossberg, or Hinsdale)

100_2526.jpg

No, no, just sell the nut to me please. :)

After the "mall," we travelled to an estate sale, before going to a flea mkt about 10 miles away.

At the estate sale, things had been picked over, but the sellers were still digging out stuff, and the rain was keeping away shoppers. So they were making very aggressive prices. I love when that happens!

First item I looked at was this old band saw. The removable side is plastic, the table is cast aluminum. Label shows ValueCraft of Springfield, Mass. But it's definitely Asian-made. It looked nice, considering, and when the seller saw me looking at it he said, "It runs great. Let me plug it in and show you."

I asked for the price first, so we wouldn't both waste our time. He replied that it was marked with green tag.

I thought, "Yeah, right!" But when he walked over and looked he said that $3 was indeed the price!

He plugged in it, and smiled proudly at me when the motor fired right up. But I pointed out that only the motor was running. We pulled the side off, and found that the drive belt was missing.

He stepped back and smiled and said, "So it is, so it is. Ok then, it's YOURS. Just take it. For free!" I loaded it in my truck, before he might change his mind.

1/3 hp motor is Taiwan made.

Here is the brand-name tag:

Each of the pulleys have some kind of rubber ring around them, apparently to cushion the blade (for noise-reduction, maybe?). The rubber ring was broken and falling off of one pulley. I wonder if I'll be able to find replacements?

Believe it or not, this band saw seems to claim to be able to be used for metal or wood. Doesn't seem stout enough to cut much in the way of metal. What do you guys think?

I'm wondering if these two pulleys line up closely enough? It seems like only one belt would run straight. Would the others be able to survive at so sharp an angle, do you think?

I realize it is not a high quality unit. But the price was right! It would be so cool if it turned out to be "good enough" for light work around my home shop. :)

That's a you **** deal. Just buy a nice starrett metal cutting bandsaw blade and you'll be able to cut metal with no problem. I'm sure you can find tires for the wheels somewhere.

Today's flea market find was mostly wrenches, I found a almost complete set of PM wrenches and I loved them as a kid in high school! I also got a Craftsman underscore vandium wrench and a big Craftsman wrench, and a couple of metrics half inch drive socket. The prize is the 15" wright half inch drive ratchet for $1!

Gave $14 for all of it.

The only other items I bought there were some old fishing lures, and one good USA-made Wizard brand 4-way lug wrench. It is just about the perfect size, heavily made, and plated. I love these things, and like to keep them everywhere I have vehicles with tires and wheels. This one cost me $2 (I'll leave the lures off of this thread, since they are not "tools," or garage related.)

I want to find me some fishing lures. On ebay they don't seem to sell at much of a discount from new.

Went out to an estate sale on Thursday. Fairly far away, but looked to be a good find. Get there and it is a huge warehouse kind of building, started poking around. My 3yo found a couple of hard hats which we were obligated to wear for the rest of the sale. Looking around found me some rather odd things, like 3 1 1/4" combo wrenches bundled together, or other multiples in the same bundle. Guy wouldn't separate bundles, so no-go on those. Lots of the stuff which had prices marked were decent for first day, but not amazing. So I grabbed some small stuff, and started making a pile of things, figuring I would cull the "don't have to have" once I got a bulk price. So the only things I bought with price tags were $10 for the CM T-Bar, and the three pliers for $3 (bundled). Everything else was either zip tied without prices (flex sockets, had about 3 bundles), or found loose. Lucked out and found a guy emptying some small listas, and was able to grab a bunch of loose sockets there. If I would have had the space, I would have grabbed the lista's (height was 2dr file cabinets, $25 each, had 4 or 5).

Total list:
3/4" Drive
CM =V= 1, 1 1/16x2, 1 1/4x2, 1 5/16 (cracked), 1 7/16, 1 5/8, Sliding T-Bar
CM -V- 1 5/16, 1 7/16, 1 5/8 (cracked)
Proto 1 1/16
Plumb 15/16
Snap On Drag Link
P&C Breaker Bar
Wright Impact 7/8, 1"

1/2" Dr
Snap on 3/4" Impact, 1/2F->3/4M Impact Adapter, 1 7/16 (Seems large for 1/2" Dr?!)
Proto LA Slotted Drag Link

3/8 DR
Snap On Flare Crowfoot 3/8, 7/16, 9/16, 11/16, 3/4, Flex 7/16
Flex SK 3/8x2, 1/2x2, 5/8x2, 11/16, 3/4
Flex CM =V= 3/8, 11/16, 3/4
Flex CM -V- 11/16
Flex Napa (same mfd as Old CM?) 15mm, 9/16

1/4" Firestone Pebble Ratchet

Snap on Flare Nut 5/8-3/4

1/2 Pony Clamp still NIB (sticker says 11.59)

Proto Pliers
Unknown Needle Nose
Unknown Duck-bills

8" piece of RR track

Jacobs 6A Chuck

Walden Worchester 1/2" Dr box

Small Banana Bread Pan full of Roloc Discs (not pictured)

Buckeye Ultrafiber 500 Loupe (may be promotional?)

And hiding in the bottom of the box, covered in dust is a Schrader Balloon Tire Gauge from the 1920's. 10-50 PSI

All told, it cost me $35 total to get out of there. The main pile was $20, and then threw in a couple more sockets for an extra $2 to make it an even $35. Feels like a good sale. If anyone wants detailed pics, or is interested in some items, please let me know.

And this week, I had sold two Canaries, found a couple of Dyson at HD, found a set of =V= combos up to 1" on CL for $15, and scored at Sears. Wrench tray, Double-x pliers, two polos, and a seasonal light thing for $2 total. And down the street, found someone getting rid of two Currie GT 350 electric scooters for free (only needs new batteries). Overall, a pretty good week.

Ps. Will upload photos in a bit, internet is acting up.

WOW, and here I though I was having a good day. Good job guys.

A good, but expensive (for me), day at the Flea Market. The place was packed with vendors this week. Fortunately, I got there early. I spent most of the money before I even got out of the first row. The prices got higher as I made my way through the rows. My first purchase was close enough to my truck that I didn’t have to carry it the whole way around. I ended up spending a total of $39 at only 4 tables.

100_2529.jpg

Table 1 - $4 (this one was in the parking lot)
partial SK#89019 3/8dr bit set (a few 1/4dr) w/tray (missing more than half, broken T40)
Welding goggles (because they just looked too cool)
box of SS #8 panhead 1” tapping screws
Lisle (USA) 3/8dr Hex bits (3/8, 5/16, 10mm, 8mm)
SnapOn FXK3 3/8dr 3” socket extension (1990)
2 inflation needles (to join the others that I can’t find when I need one)

I had to pick all this, including the bits, out of the bottom of a tote full of mixed trash. I think I got them all. I went through the tote 3 times to make sure. The vendor wanted $5, but I only had 4 ones and some change in my pocket. He didn't have any small bills to change a 20, so he let me have the lot for $4.

100_2530.jpg

Table 2 - $10
Bonney #1244 1-3/8” pump wrench (turns out that this will be a duplicate)
Bonney #1272 2-1/4” pump wrench

100_2531.jpg

Table 3 - $10
SnapOn OEX28 7/8” combo wrench (no date)
SnapOn OEXM9 9mm combo wrench (1988)

100_2532.jpg

This guy had a bunch of misc. SnapOn, Mac, and other brands of sockets in bins. But my lists aren't organized enough (yet) to find what I'm missing. He also wants $5 for each socket.

Table 4 - $15
17 - 1/4dr deep sockets on a Craftsman rail
Cornwell T-0206-L 3/16”
_______ T-0207-L 7/32”
_______ T-0208-L 1/4”
_______ T-0209-L 9/32”
_______ T-0212-L 3/8”
_______ T-0216-L 1/2”
_______ T-0218-L 9/16”

_______ TM-0214-L 14mm
_______ TM-0213-L 13mm
_______ TM-0212-L 12mm

Taiwan - 5mm, 6mm, 7mm, 8mm, 9mm, 10mm, 11mm

100_2533.jpg

a few duplicates on the Cornwell SAE, but filled out the set nicely. Now I need to be on the lookout for the other metrics. This seller also had a few Matco socket sets, but the Cornwell was the "Cheap set", according to the seller.

There were also a few ho-hum YS's listed, but I didn't feel like chasing them down.

A fine morning out to the big flea market with the Missus. Sunshine and a nice breakfast of eggs and fried potatoes.
First all Bonney, then some Snap-On, "Lectrolite Defiance, O.", Barcalo, and others. Finally a couple sacks.
Not purchased: a lovely 1930ish Brazil toolbox with leather handle and removable tray. Similar to the SK 4502C chest, though I didn't actually measure it.

For $35, you got a sweet haul of tools. And as for the hard hats with your 3 year old, you scored the biggest prize of the day no matter what you paid! Well done sir!

EDIT - there were about a dozen other hammers, in pretty lousy shape that I passed on. Please don't take my GJ card!

The little flea mkt we were headed to is a small one, and we were running late…mid afternoon on a Sunday. So my expectations weren’t high. First several vendors were a waste, and then I saw a guy with tools, equipment, and hardware. I scored a couple items there…one which will appeal to our loyal yard sale pal, Jeff Moss.

Yep, it’s a cool older wrench, painted to protect it from rust. When I flipped it over and saw the brand, I knew Jeff was gonna want it. I’ve been holding a couple of Klein tools, an old padlock, and some locksmith stuff for him for a while. So now let’s see if he is watching this thread…

The package price was $25. I was very satisfied.

Here I am! lol

It seems to be a good weekend for most everybody!

I just got back from another Freecycle Pickup. Its been a while since FC was good on the tools/garage side! first the SO stool the other day, today its a Workmate 550, and a couple of self clamping guides...

I'm not familiar with these guides, so I'l have to play, do some research on what the two sided deal is about... No obvious marks marks. these have a 36" capacity...

Well those guides are either a brand called infinity, or a close knock off. I found a YouTube for them and you can clamp the pair to a work bench, then lay a work piece across the tow and clamp again!

I already have a good use for one of these as my '36 table saw does not have a fence, and this replaces the piece of angle and two C clamps for it! one part to mess with instead of three! It alss give me a much longer guide edge so that's also a big improvement.

I hit a random sale on Saturday and saw a really nice Rapid 100 mounted on a bench. After that was a no go I asked if he had any other vises. He then said he had a small one in a box on the shelf behind me and I can have it for $20.
I was not expecting to see a baby Wilton upside down in the small box. This is my first baby found in the wild and its in great shape. Very happy.

Dang Marty, summer just started and I'm going to run out of "you *****".

But yeah, YOU ****!

LesserSon- thanks for posting the Brazil box. I took pics of an interesting but expensive cantilever box not long ago. Hopefully I can get the pics off my phone.

Outlaw - looks like you are having some good luck there lately for sure.

Only thing better would have been a Powrarm attached to it.

Found this on the side of the road with a sign that said "free runs fine" . Needs a tune up but I think it will be a quick flip.

Brian

My primary focus this trip was Bonney wrenches. (You can see from the second pic I went off-mission a few times.) I already had had an encounter with the Siren of Craftsman Vanadium DBEs (I only escaped because I already had the sizes available) and barely got away from some Lectrolite shortie DBEs.
I had $12 left by the time I saw the box. Soon as I put my hand on it, the guy said "It's from the thirties," so I figured the guy knows what it is, he isn't going to throw it away, and it isn't going to be cheap. I don't remember the figure myself, but my wife thinks he wanted $80. If I would have had Gisele Bundchen with me instead, things might have gone differently.
My thoughts about "Brazil" are that it's really cool and unusual, but then I would want to start collecting Brazil tools to put in it, and how difficult that would be. So I passed on it.

Edit: spotted it again today. Guy says $45. Maybe by the end of summer he'll just give it to me?

Each of the pulleys have some kind of rubber ring around them, apparently to cushion the blade (for noise-reduction, maybe?). The rubber ring was broken and falling off of one pulley. I wonder if I'll be able to find replacements?

Lump if you haven't found them already replacement tires can be found readily on eBay - just search "bandsaw tires 8170" - the set of 3 looks to run about $30

one example http://www.ebay.com/itm/3-BLUE-MAX-...724299?hash=item51a91ee18b:g:is8AAOxyjFpSSheT

I purchased a similar set for our Roll-In vertical bandsaw at work

I picked up up this Craftsman 1/3 HP block grinder at auction a week ago. It runs smooth but is pretty dirty and missing a side cover and one sight shield. It also came with the fairly new grinder stand.

I already have a good running 1/2 HP Craftsman so this one will be a flip but the stand is better than my current one so I'll swap that out and use my original stand to make a buffer station.

Apparently mowers grow out of the Earth in New England much like Vises fall out of the sky in Michigan.

You **** Bagged!

Brian

you forgot about the free motorbike a few pages back, while they may not be your thing surely it is still worth a grand

so a free mower and a free bike between 10 pages great scores

Scored a craftsman drill press and a 1/2 block and various rusty tools tonight for $60 off offer up! The Dp motor is dated 1954 and has a varislow option on it! I will restore the Dp and most likely part out the grinder? I need the side shields and bulb cover but other parts are fair game! I am super stoked about the varislow !
