Can anyone recommend a decent grease gun that doesn't weep grease when it's not in use? The last two I cheapos I've had oozed grease and made a mess.
I've always thought about a different way to store my grease gun, they're such an odd shape and tend to leak a little over time. I finally decided to go ahead and make one.
I've thought about a simple design and basic construction. I've seen them on Ebay and similar things made for Pitpal type brands.
I started with the materials first. . .
3" PVC, 12" long
3/4 PVC, 6" long
a cap for the 3"
a cap for the 3/4"
pvc glue / cleaner
a couple of 1/4 nuts/bolts/washers
a 1/4" lag for the wall mounting.
Draw a couple of straight lines, on each piece down it's length. A door jamb works good for this. Drill a couple of holes, (for a 1/4"bolt)one near the bottom of the 6" piece and the other about half way up. You don't want one at the top as bolt head or nut won't allow the hose to fit.
Now you have the choice to put the bolts through the 3" or the 3/4" PVC. I ran the bolts through the 3/4, (it was easier to trying to fish the nuts vice versa) then tightened the nut through the 3". Line up the 3" section and drill the holes through it, keeping the tops level with each other. Next, put the nuts on and tighten them. This is where a tappet wrench and/or ratching wrench come in handy.
Next glue the caps on. Drill a hole about a 1" down from the top of the 3" to hang on the wall. You may want to hang it with the 3/4" touching the wall or with it turned 90 degrees from the wall, personal preference.
Then I scuffed it and shot it with some black spray paint. I stuff a blue shop (paper) towel in the bottom to absorb any leaks from the gun. Now just take a 1/4" lag and screw it to the wall.
Pretty simple huh ?
oh, I did add a couple of washers between the two sections, the 3/4" cap creates a gap, so a couple of washers make it even.
300.00?It's not cheap, but I am really liking my G.Gun

Well made, no drips/leaks, you don't run out of grease every time you turn around. And a lot cheaper than a pneumatic and works just as well.
First one I set up with moly for pins and stuff. I'm gonna get another one for hi-temp bearing grease.

Good idea, thanks. I'll do it.
I've been using the waterproof Green Grease from NAPA. I thought that was supposed to be pretty good.
300.00?
not for home use
Matter of perspective, I guess.
Well if I were to hit the lottery , yes
I don't use one enough to justify 300.00
That makes senseOops....not the "perspective" I intended....just amount of use. I'm using mine every couple or three days on something or another. Anything with pins or metal on metal gets hit every 8-10 hours of use, or if it hasn't been run in a while. Too many toys and too much time, I guess.
