Can anyone recommend a decent grease gun that doesn't weep grease when it's not in use? The last two I cheapos I've had oozed grease and made a mess.

You need to make one of these.

I've always thought about a different way to store my grease gun, they're such an odd shape and tend to leak a little over time. I finally decided to go ahead and make one.
I've thought about a simple design and basic construction. I've seen them on Ebay and similar things made for Pitpal type brands.

I started with the materials first. . .

3" PVC, 12" long
3/4 PVC, 6" long
a cap for the 3"
a cap for the 3/4"
pvc glue / cleaner

a couple of 1/4 nuts/bolts/washers
a 1/4" lag for the wall mounting.

Draw a couple of straight lines, on each piece down it's length. A door jamb works good for this. Drill a couple of holes, (for a 1/4"bolt)one near the bottom of the 6" piece and the other about half way up. You don't want one at the top as bolt head or nut won't allow the hose to fit.
Now you have the choice to put the bolts through the 3" or the 3/4" PVC. I ran the bolts through the 3/4, (it was easier to trying to fish the nuts vice versa) then tightened the nut through the 3". Line up the 3" section and drill the holes through it, keeping the tops level with each other. Next, put the nuts on and tighten them. This is where a tappet wrench and/or ratching wrench come in handy.
Next glue the caps on. Drill a hole about a 1" down from the top of the 3" to hang on the wall. You may want to hang it with the 3/4" touching the wall or with it turned 90 degrees from the wall, personal preference.
Then I scuffed it and shot it with some black spray paint. I stuff a blue shop (paper) towel in the bottom to absorb any leaks from the gun. Now just take a 1/4" lag and screw it to the wall.

Pretty simple huh ?

oh, I did add a couple of washers between the two sections, the 3/4" cap creates a gap, so a couple of washers make it even.

Stop using ****** grease... but if you're inclined for a better grease gun, get an alemite, made in the USA (or at the least the older ones were)

I've always liked these, but could never find one in Canada for a reasonable price:

So, I built my own: The grease gun "clip" is a stock $5 item from most hardware stores, so just a little cutting and welding to build the rest. I've had the OTC gun for about a month (Love it, great gun!), and with some Shell grease, it hasn't dripped yet.

Yep, grease guns weep. Find a better way to store it and call it a day.

Recently, I saw one of these used a zerk fitting on the holder that you could clip your hose onto. I plan to add that to my current cut open laundry detergent bottle I have hanging from the wall.

I've got an old Alemite gun from the 1950's. It belonged to my Pop. It doesn't take tubes of grease--I have to "decant" the grease from the tube, but I've developed a quick and easy way to do that.

On our farm Pop would buy a 5-gallon bucket of grease every year, and when the gun was empty we'd unscrew the top, stick the open end of the gun into the grease and **** it into the gun by pulling back on the spring loaded handle. The memory of how fresh and good the grease looked in those 5-gallon buckets stays with me.

That said, I use NAPA red grease and it does weep out a small amount. I've learned to live with it.

Good idea, thanks. I'll do it.

I've been using the waterproof Green Grease from NAPA. I thought that was supposed to be pretty good.

Grease that sits or is thinner tends to let some oil separate and ooze out, if its actual grease oozing then it might be a storage issue (near some heat)

I've got two cheapies, an m12 and m18 and a pneumatic and none leak. I use schaffers and have a case of certified I'll be trying out soon

Yeah I thought the heat down here might be a factor. Since the weeping issue does not seem to be unique I guess I'll just make one of those holders, hang it up and wipe the grease gun down now and then.

Thanks all.

Well if I were to hit the lottery , yes
I don't use one enough to justify 300.00

Oops....not the "perspective" I intended....just amount of use. I'm using mine every couple or three days on something or another. Anything with pins or metal on metal gets hit every 8-10 hours of use, or if it hasn't been run in a while. Too many toys and too much time, I guess.

Older Lincolns, Plews or Alemites. The new Lincolns feel cheap and don't pump great. They're imported now so take that fwiw. The last new plews I used was garbage but it's been a couple of years. I'm looking at a Milwaukee m12 next.

It's the grease, not the gun. Many brands and chemistries of grease will weep oil out of the gun. The only one I personally haven't had weep was from LE. Not an over the counter retail brand. The grease I use now from TRC does weep a little.

I have used both mobil 1 and valvoline and they both weep, one is red and one is clearish... I think it is just how they are made... The gun doesn't matter. I am in phoenix as well.
