Maybe I'm just a ****, but I've got a hayfield right by an area where a big subdivision has sprung up.
I'm the ******* out there at 3am with chrome stack barking on a tractor, baling hay.
Got to go when conditions are right, and these people chose to move out in the "country".
Surprisingly, nobody's ever complained.

Steevo you must be retired, that's the kind of stuff you worry about when you retire.
I'm retired and I find myself doing the same kind of stuff.
i.e. My trash guys comes on Thursday about noon, when he's not here by 1 pm I find myself saying "where the hell is that guy it's 1 o'clock and he isn't here yet" after a few trips to the window to see if he's come yet I catch myself and say "what the hell are you doing"............something I would have never given a second thought to when I was working. and then of course there is the mail lady, "why isn't she here yet"......see what I mean.......lol

I'm trying to figure out how to put lights on my push mower, because when fall gets here I can't get home in time to mow in the daylight unless it's on Saturday or Sunday. Then if it rains on those days...It's dark here by 7pm towards the end of October.

That's what I've been thinking all along, but I'm trying to figure how to mount them and how to keep it "tasteful".

If it's over 90 degrees outside and you're mowing you're own lawn, you've got a screw loose unless you're looking for a tan. It's just stupid to be out there sweating when you can hit it once things cool down.

That's one reason they have headlights. Another reason is for notably large yards or general work around the garden/driveway plowing, or anything else you might do with one.

Concern for my neighbors, do you mean the jack-hats who call the HOA on me if my grass is too high or if one of those "grow 3 feet overnight" weeds popup. Or the other jack-hats who have their landscapers out there at 6am?



I spent 50 years being considerate, now I simply do not give a fsck about neighbors.



If I didn't have to work, I'd mow it at midnight, pull the muffler off the mower and go real slow.

Oh trust me. I hate those kind of F@CKING HOAs with a passion. My development has a 4 different HOAs. I lived in the front part where people had nothing better to do then bust my balls about everything they could. I got a kick out of getting the newsletter and seeing what I did wrong last month. People that never had power before get alittle power hungry and think they run the world. F that!!!

I loved the development but hated that section so I moved to the back of the same development where It is much much less restrictions. I've had really great neighbors and never had one issue with anyone since I lived here.

I mow later in the evening, due to the heat. I do try to be well completed by 10 P.M. as I greatly respect my next door neighbor lady. Her late husband was retired and on the tractor 6 days a week, but I didn't live next to her then.

I work 11p-7a, and her lawn guy mows at least once a week or more during the day, during my prime sleep time...I have earplugs, and we survive.

After 10PM, I would wait until another day...

I don't mow my yard at night, though I could. I added an LED floodlight to my riding mower for moving snow. WOrked great. Probably do the same for mowing in the dark. But I like my neighbors, currently...

Why do retired people go to bed so early? Why do they get so mad if they get woke up? It's not like they have to work tomorrow...

If I was retired, I would just sleep whenever I fell asleep, get up whenever I woke up. Why the routine? That's the best thing about retirement. No more routine!

My Neighbor has been up as early as 4:15 mowing his lawn. It was a 1 time occurrence I believe he had some sort of family reunion or family get together because of all the cars there later that day, the usual time for him is 630-7 He uses a push mower most of the time then weedwacks then blows every single blade of grass off his driveway, he is an older man and I never see him outside after 5pm. I told my wife it could be worse we could have a partying house, meth lab, race car driver (That was my last house) and to put up with someone mowing in the morning to have a really nice clean maintained house next door was more than worth it.

Yeah...I guess you could say I'm a fan of lights on my mower! I custom built the heated cab for snowblowing duty. Bonus is having all the lighting to allow mowing when it's comfortable to do so. Not having to worry about bothering neighbors is one of the many benefits of country living!

So you bought a home in a HOA that clearly cares enough about lawn care they hire landscapers and you're complaining about when they call you out for upkeep? 3 ft weeds don't just pop up overnight unless you have a weedy overgrown lawn in the first place. No offense, just saying.

Genuinely curious, why did you buy in the HOA in the first place, it doesn't seem like a good fit.

I didn't do it all the time, but I usually enjoy mowing late. Turn the headlights on get it done. Save the daylight for other things that either need better light or can only happen during "regular business hours". Of course, I only need a little over an hour to do about 3 acres that I mow of our place.

Back when I used a traditional lawn tractor (which took longer too), I put clear marker lights on the sides of the frame bellow the pedals / footrest area to shed a little light on the deck at night 'cause I used to be so busy working 60 - 80 hrs a week that mowing at night was regular thing.

These days, If I'm mowing at night, it's usually because I am fighting weather and it's the only time available after it has rained every day I have been home for weeks and the place is looking like an abandoned property. Or better yet, I have other larger projects planned and I feel great getting one chore marked off the list to allow time for the bigger things. I also can almost never mow before mid-afternoon or the grass is still wet in the shaded areas and will load up the deck...of course that also means that some evenings when I'm tempted to mow, I can't 'cause dew is already coming on.
As for noise issues: I can think of about a dozen things people regularly do that would annoy me more than cutting grass at night. And where I live, a non-automotive engine noise at any hour of day / night could be any number of agricultural machines. Much better background noise for my life than more urban settings, IMO.

I work shifts, everyone has their own schedule.... If you're still here, learn to adapt to your neighbors, learn to compromise with them, or move. Not everyone agrees with your schedule, and laws or ordinances won't help you here. Good luck.

I find snowblowing at night when everyone else is asleep quite soothing!

Of course everyone's windows are shut because, well, it's snowing when I'm snowblowing.
