Sure has been quite around these here parts. I know for myself I've been busy with summer stuff, work and other bigger machines
IKR but on the other hand ebay has over 40 listings for "craftsman bench grinders-used" most are so-so, a few nice ones but most are over priced, IMHO and not too many pristine ones, anyone else notice the flood of these on ebay?

Did they ever make a 1725 RPM block?
Not as far as I know; but, then I didn't know they made a 3-phase, or a model with a Brake. :dunno:

They did make a variable speed not-a-real-Block, I happen to have. m-257.190470. Cheap plastic, w/ sleeve bearings.

Not a lot of those tube steel stands. I'm guessing they weren't a big seller. I have a 1/2hp that came with one and it's kind of flimsy.

I tried to give one away - for the cost of shipping.

It wound up in the re-cycle bin. :dunno:
I didn't have much in it, basically shipping and like $10, now I just need the metal cabinet type, one in GA w/ a block on ebay but the guy wont ship, and he sells other grinders like baldor too and wont ship any of them :(

Pretty cool cabinet. Is it sturdy? Love the Labs, and War Eagle!
Yes it's quite sturdy.

It does however have a big foot print and a lot of wasted space that is only accessible from the sides.

That said, I had to have one, and drove over an hour to get it with a grinder I didn't want.

Labs are great, as all dogs are. The one with the scarf is ours, the other is my daughter's - plus she now has a 90# male brown. It's quite the pack.

I'm not sure what you mean by the 'War Eagle', but thanks.

There is a Craftsman Crown Top Badge on the front of the stand, though.

I like the crown logo, and I'll probably be on the lookout for one of those stands. I built a stand for my first CM grinder, but now I have another with no stand. I was thinking of putting some metal on the sides/back, and making the front open for accessories and tools.

I saw your Michigan motif, and it reminded me of my college: The university of Alabama=Auburn. War Eagle!

Hi All,
I've been looking for a bench grinder for a while now. I am not a "craftsman block grinder" collector, I just want a solid grinder for general shop use. I see these old C-man blocks are durable & well made.
This one popped up locally for $125. Supposedly it is essentially brand-new. The guy just took it out of the original box a month or two ago and mounted it on the stand and used it a bit. The photos seem to support the story as it looks pretty much brand new. He believes it was purchased new in the mid 70's.
Here are two photos. Is this a solid price? I plan to pick it up tomorrow, just want to make sure Its a solid deal.

Hells yes! An original stand, the heavy duty base with quench tray, mint condition, 3/4HP... I would pay that in a heartbeat....

I'm moving my grinder to a different base so I figured I would snap a couple pics. Back when I first got it I added an inline fuse in the base. As you can see it is wired between where the black (hot) wire comes in and goes to the power switch.

For my 1/2 HP model I'm using an 8-amp slow blow / time delay. I think I tried some smaller sizes (it's been a while) and I do remember a couple burning out (I don't even remember if they were slow blow or not), but this size was available at Home Depot and has worked flawless, even under heavy grinding.

Figure this is better than nothing if something shorts out.

I have come across more than 1 Block that would still be working if it had a fuse.

Excellent!

Thank you.

Great deal! Better hurry and land it.

I'm at the Mercy of the sellers schedule at the moment. Tomorrow is his earliest availability. So I'm hoping he is a stand-up dude and doesn't sell it to some random guy that comes along between now and then. I've lost deals like that before even tho the seller has told me "I'm free at 1pm tomorrow"... then it's gone before I show up. :lol_hitti
