Oh, after reading it turns out they are rare. SK diamond usually doesnt last long lol.
I would put up an old s-k against any tool truck brand ratchet now today. There is a reason there is so many around not coincedence.

You probably own that style ratchet in the best condition in the world. Gratz

Thanks, that could be. Wow, I see a couple more have come out of the woodwork here.

I'd bet so.
They only made that variation for 2 1/2 or 3 yrs so there can't be barge loads of them hiding in tool sheds and 1938 was a long time ago.

Gany, thanks for doing the dirty work there. I never opened mine up yet and probably for the better.

If that's the time span they were made I can believe it. By the way, one of my favorite things to do is dream of all the tool treasures still in hiding and not yet seen by the public. :shocking:

It's a bit more of a pain to mess with compared to the later version but there are much worse ratchets to deal with.

1938..... wow...
I have one in my toolbox, never realized it was very old.
Gonna guess it was one of my father-in-laws tools. (Possibly his fathers.)
It shows some use, but is in pretty good shape.

Nice find Sam. Another one sold on eBay recently. It was missing the selector believe it or not, just had that little nub you see in the very center of the selector.. The selector appears to be pressed on to that.

I never did crack mine open.

Unfortunately, it looks like my ratchets pawl is worn out. I forgot to take pictures, so two fails in a row. Teeth in the head look ok, not sure if there is any fix to the pawl

Finally I accepted the challenge of taking apart this ratchet. It took some small tip snap ring pliers in conjunction with a pick, and a lot of patience.

I know Gany posted the parts already but here they are again about a year late. Posted this ratchet on ToolArchives too.

1. All parts
2. Back cap with plunger
3. Plunger and spring (after falling out)
4. Pivoting pin slides out. There is a keyway aligning it and the pawl together.
5. Pawl slides out
6. To reassemble, I found the easiest way was to let the plunger grip the pin and the insert through the main body and pawl while lining up both halves.

Nice pics, 3bay! :)

For some reason that actuator reminds me of the one in the older Indestro Super ratchets. Pawl hole has a little nub that fits into a groove on the pawl pin. Don't know if the Super was patented in the late 30's or not - could have been a new pawl design manufacturers were trying at the time that just didn't pan out or something.

I have seen sk ratchets with the thumb spinner like Thu craftsman rhft on eBay but were sky high priced I would pass if I found one of those. I paid $90 for my tuff1 Roto head ratchet.
