OK... is it just me or does the blood look like its giving back "the finger!" This might explain some of those answers I gave to the Rorschach tests in Psych class in college!
Duker, yours were probably better than my answers (I thought all of the ink blots looked like vaginas). But now I do see what you are talking about.:fingersx:

Bob, I resemble that remark! I just glad we didn't see Shorty's nub on the table as I hate to see accidents but more importantly it would totally kill his vibe with the Hooters girls!

So it looks like Shorty is luring his wife up the hayloft:lol_hitti

That's a hell of a big piece of paper! Hope your hand is ok. So are you going for the blood red look on your floor?

Hey you know what they say about the pirate captain with the red shirt and brown pants.

Luckily it wasn't much more than a paper cut...

Shorty, that is a pretty extreme way to cool off. Most of us just sweat. Hope you had some shoprags and duck tape handy.

Right now we need any cooling available. A small bandaid did the job.

Ha, I see it.

What a ****** mess you've made there mate.:willy_nil

Well said.

Just a typical oops.

We can't leave you alone for a minute Shorty - do you have shares in an ambulance company?

No but if I don't come home with nicks, cuts or scrapes, my wife thinks I'm not at the shop.

Dan, watch your language -- folks in Great Britain and the Commonwealth are reading this stuff.

And Stewart, after that paper cut opened up did you just keep pushing?

That's why it looks so bad, I didn't stop what I was cutting. I'm sure the guy watching was like "WTF"

When I nick myself like that I just grab my can of lacquer thinner and a roll of masking tape. A quick dip and a tight wrap and back at it.

I had a maintenance mech that was happy to cut himself in the morning cause he knew it was going to happen every day he just didn't know when.

Now back to the regularly scheduled program. (Cleaning up the joint)

JB I guess no posting pictures of my leg. Lol
Don, I usually just wrap a paper towel but I have a safety kit now so used a bandaid. Lacquer Thinner?
Craig, if I called 811 they'd end up with a satellite office at my shop.

Lacquer thinner: isn't that where the phrase came from "Feel the burn"?

While my wife help shuttle her stuff up into the loft, she "mentioned" the difficulty in stepping onto the ladder stairs. Putting it off long enough, I found a scrap 2x4 and mounted it to the joist. 98b1181f759adc3be20f199d3740abb4.jpg

SPSA (Shorty Public Service Announcement).... Hey Shorty... Nails or screws attaching the vertical 2x4? If nails, smooth or ring shank? It would be a worthy endeavor to drive a couple truss lock screws into that if you used smooth nails.

With that much leverage, my pucker factor meter went off. ;-)

In Shorty's defense, the OSHA inspector did not have anything to say. Of course, he passed out when he saw it and just laid on the ground twitching. :lol_hitti

Thanks for the tip.
The intent of my shop is to demonstrate to others the wrong way to do things. LOL
I used 6 3" deck screws through the OSB into the joist members. I definitely would prefer bolting it but it's a 2x4 and it was quick fix to what was there which was nothing. Stepping off the ledge on to the top step without the handhold is pucker factor and I'd been doing that foolishly.
A proper railing is definitely needed and should be the top priority when I get finished with house moves.

My shop would pass an OSHA inspection.

Honestly.

But only because OSHA only applies to workplaces of six or more employees so it would pass by default: no inspection.

I'm thinking the OSHA inspector will reach his yearly quota with Shortys place and doesn't have to visit any other members in Florida.

Deck screws are handy, I use them a lot, but they aren't really designed for structural applications. They tend to "snap off pretty easy. I was "educated" about Truss Lock screws when we built my barn back in 2015. They are a bit pricey... but in certain applications justify their worth.

I am betting most of us have sketchy stuff we do in our shops on a regular basis. I use an A-frame ladder to access my loft..... probably not the best way, but it works.

Read your build thread and am impressed. Anyone with a crane in there garage has truly gotten serious. I like that old coke machine and your collection of texaco items. I have never seen a texaco lamp like that...where did you pick that up?

Thank you for stopping in and the kind words. The small crane has been a necessity since a certain order picker hasn't worked.
The Texaco lamp and radios are promotional items my parents got when we had our Texaco station. Probably came from jobber conferences they attended while you know who was manning the store.

Just checkin in on my GJ friends to the south. Hopefully Irma will have calmed down a bit by the time she reaches you. I'll be screwing down the tin on the old Buick Barn today as a lot of the old nails have worked themselves out. Can come down and lend a hand after it passes us if needed. Stay safe and God bless

Thanks Lamar. Depending on where Irma actually tracks, I might end up at my brother's house so could be just down the road from you. Hope it doesn't come to that. Thanks again for the well wishes friend.
