For a 10K Assymetric lift my data shows it's about a $1,800 adder for a Rotary.

But based on your Rotary installed $3,500 price, which seems like a phenomenal deal..

Any idea how much the installation cost is? Seems like I remember another fella saying it was $500.

If that's the case then ($3,500-$500)=$3,000 for Rotary (based on your data)

The link below says $2,950 for a comparable BendPak

So you'll save $50 :headscrat

FREE SHIPPING — BendPak Dual-Width 2-Post Asymmetric Car Lift — 10,000-Lb. Capacity, Gray, Model# XPR-10AS
I just got the quote for the lift installed. I have seen these guys install many lifts in the shops I have worked at and they are top notch.

When I purchased this lift all of the adverts were for blue lifts, it makes no difference to me, just noting the difference.

I am not a robot, just a seasoned Indycar race Engineer so you conspiracy mongers can put your fears on hold.

The reason there are two separate posts on this issue was merely because the first appeared to not work, nothing sinister.

If Bendpak is unable or unwilling to supply a proper schematic of the power unit controls, how would one think they are able to address any other issues customers will have?

This lift was just going to be a small part of a shop addition anyway, a colleague has already offered to remove it and it will be replaced with something made in the states, had enough of Uncle Fong's almost good lifts.

Do what you want with the posting information, delete it if it disturbs you, I care not.

I'd be embarrassed to say I'm an Indycar engineer but couldn't wire a single phase 220V motor.

I'm not standing up for Bendpak but if I gave up on every product that had ****** instructions over the years I wouldn't have a lot of things in my shop today, including a Mitutoyo DRO.

Problems arise, you work through them and reason through them. That's what being a gearhead is all about. Apparently I lack the formal training to be confounded by problems. :headscrat

And that's sound advice.

Having worked at numerous manufacturers I learned that the guys that write the manuals for equipment are the last one's hired during good times... and the first one's fired during bad times.

You must never have worked with a lot of engineers. There are good ones and bad ones, just like everything else in life. There are also engineers that are absolute KILLER with mathematics, but are terrible with hands-on work. Two different skill-sets.

I've no dog in this hunt at all either, but I have worked with a number of different lifts when I used to be a mechanic. Rotary in dealership, Bend-Pak and Atlas (Chinese) in independent shop. They all did the job, day in, day out.

I also bought an XPR-10S-168. What a *************. Mine also sat for ~2 months only half installed. I ended up paying a professional (the same people who I had install my new Atlas lift) to fix it. Note: We tried to self-install the Bendpak, but as others said the instructions were horrible compared to the Atlas. Their customer service is non-existent, and their CS rep 'Abraham' doesn't know his head from his *******. It took them 3 weeks to send out a replacement hydraulic ram and hoses, and an additional week to send me one of the fittings I told them needed to be replaced in the first place.

The safety lock is almost impossible to use. It takes 10x the force as my Atlas does to push the lever. It sways. As the Op said, mine came all scraped to hell. In retrospect, I wish I would have bought something different. I love my Atlas 9k lifts, I've had not a single issue out of any of them, but I needed an extra tall/extra wide 10k lift for lifting duallys. I sent them the invoice for fix, but of course never heard back. I, for one, will NEVER buy another Bendpak product.

I have a Bendpak for over two years which gets almost daily use. It's been great. I overruled myself and had someone install it which was probably the best decision. If installed correctly, you don't have some of the issues I have read here. I accidentally broke one of the airlines and plastic cover. Called Bendpak customer service and within two days had new plastic covers, new airline t-connectors, additional hose and touch up paint, the last two I did not request. They included them since they thought I may need them. Nice touch. Can't speak for commercial users, but for residential the Bendpak has been great, problem free and a decent value. I too am suspicious of others motives when they trash a product pretty strongly. You never know what trolls may be on our site.

I own an automotive repair shop - facebook.com/otpautomotive. My 'motives' are wanting functioning lifts to safely service my customers vehicles. Be careful who you arbitrarily decide to throw under the bus....

Most of the complaints seem to be from folks recently buying Bendpak's. The older one's, such as yours, seem to not have the quality issues.

As for trolls... feedback, positive or negative, could be from somebody that doesn't even have a lift..... build threads, install photo's, and links such as kendogg supplied, and a members post count help to make it real.

With a member name of "Theruse" your post is very ironic.......

I feel compelled to respond here since I just ran into some of the same issues.

As my first post, I now have something worth commenting on.

1. Yes, the instructions leave a lot to be desired.
2. I also had a fun time trying to figure where the equalizer cables attach, since you cannot see them easily. I also worried that my arm was going to be permanently stuck in the lift while trying to attach these. Also if you move the carriage, they come loose & you get to attach them all over again. A nice tubular sleeve would be much better than a flat slot so that it does not allow the cable to easily fall out before you can tension it.
3. Neither motor nor the safety switch have much in the way of directions to tell you how to hook it up. I actually double checked the voltage to be sure I did not get the wrong motor.
4. Yes the instructions say nothing of hooking the height extensions up or what bolts to use. I resorted to counting up the parts to see what was left by process of elimination.
5. The safety bar fits like something an amateur built. I too plan to re-drill & make it work properly.
6. Now my real complaint.... the rest were just minor annoyances, but still there none the less. My lift was scratched up on the inside of the package where shipping could not easily damage it. I build an all new garage & the lift looks like I bought a used one. I'll probably have to sand/buff the scrapes out to make it look decent. Yes, I'm picky about my stuff.

Now for the reasons I went with this brand.....
7. Price was pretty good, way lower than a Rotary, but still above many of the no-name generic brands. Since I will not use it commercially I figured it will still be over-built for my application.
8. I wanted the tall & wide configuration (want to drive my over 8' wide truck through the lift without running over the carriage, which my Rotary dealer had trouble filling, unless I bought a much larger (& even more expensive) lift. I'm still happy with my purchase, but the original poster has some valid points.

This thread makes me very nervous. I just ordered the XPR-10AS-LP with 2ft extensions to get max height for large trucks and still be able to lift low cars and work on project cars. I felt like the customer service guy was very helpful and we discussed arm lengths and using the lift in the symmetric position for a 3500 in great detail. He recommended the pad extensions and frame cradles based on larger trucks having running boards and DEF tanks, and seemed to not leave anything out.

Out the door, no tax, no shipping, with adapter sets and frame cradles, $3519. That was with 2% military discount. Quotes 6-8 weeks build and will hold for my direction to drop ship to my installer. I like to wrench... but something tells me with all of the nit-picky comments on lift installs; that I should leave it to a pro with some tribal knowledge to get it right the first time. It is looking like ~800-900 for install since they have to drive over 2 hours and bring the lift with them.

I'm no engineer, but coming from the structural trades I feel the BP design just give me more assurance while under the truck... albeit probably over engineered. They quoted that these are tested at 300% of capacity... I don't believe that for a minute; but even at 150% that greatly exceeds my need.

Here we go!

I'm as bright as I look in the picture above.
I'm glad I bought a more "generic" brand lift. https://www.bestbuyautoequipment.co...plus-tall-8000-p/autolift-car-park-8plusp.htm

it had some scratches, the instructions could have been better, but for $2700 with a bridge jack, I am glad I went that way over the Bend-pak

I did have a Direct lift 2 post in my other garage, and that thing had some scratches and brackets with not the greatest welds on them, but it's what I expected.

I do have to give some slack to the manufactures about the scratches, these things are a ***** to ship and crate.

Either way, just my .02

X...

I got the same lift with all the frame adapters. I too have a lowered Firebird & a lifted 2500HD, along with the need to back an 8' wide truck between the lift arms to get to the rear of the garage. This lift met all these requirements.

Yes, I agreed with the original posting, but I still would buy this lift again.

For the money, it's a very good lift, but I would have gladly paid $50 more if they would have invested in better packaging so my actually lift looked new when I unpacked it & added a few well worded paragraphs in the directions.

My friend & I put it up in a few hours. The worst part was drilling the holes (hitting rebar in the floor). Depending on your abilities, you may spring for install, but from my perspective, I would not have paid $800 to have someone put it up.

Thanks for the encouragement. I have plenty of room to position for CG, so I think I'll be fine.

I see I was quoted earlier...I stand by what I said and would not recommend Bendpak to anyone. The problems are not worth the money saved.

I have had a BendPak for 1yr now, it has worked flawlessly. I use it a few times a week for general maintenance and detailing and to add a much needed spot in the garage to park under.

It lifts any of my cars and my F250 w ease.

I will say the install instructions were not the best, and due to that and time I paid a reputable local installer to take delivery and do the install. $750. Money well spent IMO after watching them.

The rolling jack is a must have option, as it's simply my favorite tool in my garage.

I like mine enough that I am adding another this winter.

i have had my bend pak ten years, and when it works, its flawless and works great, no complaints. but in them ten years, just as a hobbist I have.

replace a motor, had to go aftermarket because bendpak wont sell just the motor, got to buy the whole hydraulic unit

replace all the hoses at times, because they blew with cars on lifts, china rubber hoses i guess.

the micro switch, three, had to go after market too

one cylinder, complete replacement, bendpak doesnt sell seal kits for it, the second one leaking now.

the only thing i havent replace is the steel cables.

the arm restraint hasnt work since day one.

but overall, i like it when its working. I like the color blue.

biggest problem, cheap made hoses, and bend pak parts department. Its really like they buy parts from other companies and build a johnny cash cadallic and call it a bend pak

but i like it

These are simple mechanical devices.

If you are not mechanically skilled enough to work on them, adjust them, repair them or diagnose problems with them,... you probably should not be using one.

Regardless of the COE a automotive elctro/hydraulic lift will require tuning, adjustments and maintenance. If you are incapable of measuring and adjusting one to optimize and prepare it to function safely and correctly,.... don't buy one.

Any lift is only as safe as the operator. That operator should be an expert on the lift they are using long before they ever place a multi thousand dollar vehicle on it and then get underneath it.

I agree with this. Anybody who can't figure out how to put together a simple device like a lift, without any instructions at all, shouldn't need to own one. You might have to go look at one, and take pictures of it, but you should be able to figure out how it goes together.

When I see people complain about scratched paint, I wonder whether they are wanting a lift or wanting some sort of trophy to put in their garage. A lift is a tool. It's not a showpiece. It allows you to do stuff to your cars and trucks. They get dirty. The minute you start using one, they get scratched up and dinged.

The real question is does the lift work as intended after it's set up. If not, then you have a complaint. If your complaint is the installation process, which you are attempting yourself, then you need to find someone competent to do the install.

I don't think it's particularly unreasonable to expect your brand new multi-thousand dollar purchase to not be scraped to **** when it arrives.

Would you accept similar damage to a new vehicle purchase? After all, what are you wanting? A vehicle to get you around, or some kind of trophy to put in your garage? Scratched and gouged paint on your car doesn't affect the function, so why would any reasonable person complain?

Yea packaging is a weakness from our Asian suppliers it seems.

They are pretty dang good at reverse engineering everything they get their hands on, too bad they don't pay attention to the packaging the original stuff came in. They could reverse engineer the hell out of a styrofoam mold and some decent cardboard.

LOL

LOL?

Not at all for the legit companies spending hundreds of thousands of dollars engineering, designing, fabricating and marketing a new product... then the offshore folks come along and steal the design, and folks buy it.

Ugh. I worked for a large manufacturer who lost millions of dollars of sales due to these knock offs.

It's a shame. When the reputable places are all gone, all you'll have is sub standard copies.

Well...
I'm gonna sound like a ****; but its my life and my hard earned money being invested. I cancelled my bend-pak order and spent almost twice the price on a Challenger with all the fixins. Dual pendant control and the perfect lift for me.

I really lost confidence when talking to the salesman, but put the order through anyway. Then I talked to an ALI certified installer and he walked me through some of the issues he always has installing them properly and talked to me for about 15 minutes on how I plan to use the lift. He installs all of the lifts at Costco and several other service facilities in western Washington and talked to me about the types of service calls for software issues and hose replacements.

So I delayed my install for a couple of months and pulled some money out of other budget items delaying the completion of my shop's bathroom and bar so I can have confidence in the lift.

So far I don't think I will ever regret it.
