At least the guy is honest enough to disclose the repair. Seems nicely done, but IMHO it severely diminishes the value. Great paint job tho'

Larry and Shiftless, you guys miss this one? One of you has to within driving distance of this one. Unless I'm missing something. It does appear to be pretty rusty.

Region: West

Location: San Pablo, CA

Item: Reed 4c Vise

Price: $75

Link: https://sfbay.craigslist.org/eby/atq/d/old-heavy-duty-vise/6296068482.html

I saw the CL ad last night, but I thought I might not have the skill to restore it. I am tempted to try though.

What are somethings to look for when inspecting this kind of vise?

Got it this morning!

9 miles away from my house. Not too bad...
Welded base, missing handle, but I can't complain.

Keep on posting those killer deals. Thanks to Michael and the rest of you guys.
Just to demonstrate how fast these things move, Michael's post at 6:30 AM local time, would have been already too late to respond. Seller told me he got 8 calls. I was on it yesterday evening thanks to fellow GJ member JZiggy THANK YOU JZ!

I know nothing about vise, so not sure if this is a good deal for $110 . It is in Dayton OH.

https://dayton.craigslist.org/tls/d/wilton-3-bullet-swivel-vise/6293436374.html

From the ad:
Wilton 3" Bullet Swivel Vise, Nice Shape Machinist Vice....Operates well...Made in USA......

That'a a fair deal, not a smoking stealing it price but the anvil and side of jaws look really good which is a good indicator of non-abuse, no dings or gouges on them, the back cap is dented in, the main handle is straight and it still has the rubber finger savers. Overall it looks like it hasn't been abused, It looks complete with base and swivel handles (albeit bent). With a little cleaning up someone should be pretty happy having it on their workbench for $100

Thanks for the info! Someone should get this - I am looking for a vise, but I am too far away.

Seems like a good price for sure, they seem to be selling on ebay for $130-150 + shipping. I actually have the same vise for sale currently which is in very similar condition except my swivel base is cracked (and was hoping for a little more than this). If anyone is interested I'm open to offers and I think it'll fit in a flat rate box so shipping shouldn't be outrageous.

Congrats on the vice Shiftless. I saw it the night before too and was wondering why no one snagged it then. Posted it a little after I got into work. I didn't even try to get it. Way too far away for me.

Thanks michael
After cleaning up an old Parker 956 that I sold, and my epic battle with a Reed 406 double swiveller which I still have awaiting a trade, I thought I had sworn off the monster 100+ pound vises. I guess I haven't. :headscrat

I thought I got a pretty good deal when I bought the bench top model of that same drill press with no table lift.
That is a GREAT deal! Good find

Anybody up for a Wilton? $80, looks nice but I wish the picture was larger. Might pick this one up.

That one is already gone. Hope it was you who grabbed it. That looks to be a Wilton C series vise. Generally considered to be the best they made. $80 is a totally "you ****" price.

Maybe a different seller that's flipping it.

No I do not think it is different seller. I meant to say it is the same CL ad, but different price now. I wonder if seller see this thread, and whoops... lets see if I can sell this for higher price :lol_hitti

That MIGHT happen but what I know happens sometimes it that somebody calls the seller telling him what a great vise it is, made in America, legendary, yada-yada, and he has priced it too low.

Or another scenario goes like this...
A seller gets 4 or 5 calls on his answering machine in the first half hour and decides on his own that maybe he has priced it too low. He then pulls the ad for a while and raises the price.

The fellow I bought my Reed 4C from was surprised that he got 8 calls on it but didn't pull one of those moves on me. After looking it over and saying YES, I gave him $5 over asking. He was pleasantly surprised and told me he was happy to see it going to a good home. He was an older gentleman and had owned it for about 30 years.

Another scenario that I've encountered recently is that the seller gets a lot of low ball offers and decides to increase the price. Seller said it's because they were getting too many low ball offers. I can't see why not just put that the price is firm.
