I ran into this Snap-On dolly cart today. Very practical. Small hardware and parts compartments under the lid inside the top thing. Well-partitioned drawers, including a removable tote tray. Guy wanted $100. Though sorely tempted, I didn't buy it. It's straight and the drawers are square, but it needs to be blasted or strip-sanded and repainted. The finish is in terrible condition. I don't think the bar on the back is original. It's welded on and appears to have been added to hang stuff from. I could be wrong. I'm no expert on this era Snap-On boxes. Maybe it's original and has been repaired. But I don't think so. I may change my mind and talk myself into it if it's still there tomorrow.
It's one piece. I found it in the Snap-On catalogs. It's a KRD-340. It first appeared in 1960 Catalog X. They called it a Tool Truck (as in hand truck). And I was right about that bent flat bar stock - not an ugly repair, someone added it.I think I would have bought that just because of the wow, never seen one factor. Do you think it's all one piece or do you think the parts/top was added?

It is! The built-in dolly/hand truck aspect is what drew me to it.Very cool toolbox/cart!
We saw this week (I think) someone posted a gray & red without the chevron emblem but with a Sears|Craftsman logo. Here's a red Craftsman 6-drawer toolbox with the chevron logo I saw on CL. Would this also be from that transition period which appears to be in/around '76? Just curious. Rileysan?
I think the mystery of this stack can be solved by looking at the inside of the lid on the top box.It looks gray to me.If the box stared out life being red,the inside of the lid would be red as well. This tells me that the stack was gray to start with, and was repainted red a long time ago, before all the wear and tear happened.I think the chevron badge was original, but the color is not.We saw this week (I think) someone posted a gray & red without the chevron emblem but with a Sears|Craftsman logo. Can anyone identify who made this? It's up on CL locally right now.

I picked up this well used Proto box at a garage sale. It's ironic that it has Snap-on stickers. It shows many similarities to my '70s Craftsman upper box which can barely be seen on the left. The lid, latch and lock areas are virtually identical. Any ideas who made this box and when?

Should be a date stamped into the floor of the top left tray.....Thanks for the information, Brian. Good to know. Probably made just about the same timeframe as my late '70s Craftsman box. No wonder the details are so similar.

There's a running joke among some of us WWII collectors loading up our vintage flip top or hip roof cantilever boxes or armorers’ chests with so many vintage tools that we can no longer lift them. There's a vintage cover of Army Motors magazine from 1943 we all get a kick out of. It shows a hundred mechanics fanned out and running up a hill with their toolboxes in one hand. The perspective of the camera is from the top of the hill and the men closest to the top are drawn in full figure, heroic, handsome and running like Olympians, without breaking a sweat. Like they're taking an occupied position armed with their toolboxes. The GMTK in the box weighed 75 pounds!![]()
I wish that Snap-On KRD-340 was about 20 years older, in better condition, and OD green!
But I have some other ideas...

Here are a few pictures of my NAF tool collection. I can't even come close to lifting that Kennedy cantilever box off the ground. I could really use one of those dollies.

Was wondering if anyone can identify this roller cab
Thank you
Finally got the bottom restored to go with the top I already did
