Vintage tools with vintage Craftsman toolbox

I posted the gray & red 3-drawer toolbox under the gray & red thread but wanted to post some details about the tools that came with the box. Lots of screwdrivers, some wrenches, some Williams punches and chisels, hammers & a mallet, some pliers, adjustable wrenches and socket sets. I think the nicest stuff may be the two S-K socket sets. Hope to get some info from you guys on those. I've cleaned out and inventoried the toolbox in the pics FYI. That isn't how I found it.

There are 1/2" and 1/4" S-K socket sets. There is also a 3/8" Williams socket set in there with a cool flexible extension. It's always nice to get some decent tools along with a great old toolbox!

The 1/2" drive S-K socket set seems close to complete. Not that I would know though. I suspect the ratchet may be later (newer) than the rest of the set. It is the only piece that is marked "S-K Wayne". Part# 42470. There is a 5" ext (40161), 10" ext (40162), speeder handle (40181) and 17" breaker bar (41653), All of these are marked "S-K" within a diamond-shaped box. There is a 10" sliding T-handle just marked "S-K" (40152). It has the following 12-pt sockets (all marked with just "S-K" no diamond):
1" (40132), 15/16" (40130), 7/8" (40128), 13/16" (40126), 25/32" (40125),
3/4" (40124), 11/16" (40122), 5/8" (40120), 19/32" (40119), 9/16" (40118, 6-pt socket), 1/2" (40116) & 7/16" (40114). There is one deep socket 13/16" (40826).

The 1/4" drive S-K socket set is in what once was a green box. Not much paint on the exterior and it appears to original owner has touched up the inside of the box. He said it never had a ratchet just the breaker and leverage bar. It has a 5" breaker bar (marked with S-K in a diamond) and a 4.5" leverage bar (totally unmarked except for the cross-hatching at one end). The 1/4" sockets have the same markings and cross-hatching as teh 1/2". There are some sockets missing but here's what's in the box:
Six 6-pt sockets: 7/16", 3/8", 11/32", 5/16", 9/32" and 1/4". Three 8-pt sockets: 3/8", 5/16" and 1/4".

Can anyone tell me how close to complete these two sets are and which pieces likely don't belong with the sets? I'd love to find out what's missing and work on completing them.

Thanks Don! I just finished reading the S-K Tools thread. So now I know enough to be dangerous!

That 4218 set looks like it contains just about everything I've got. Clearly, I've got the 19/32 & 25/32 sockets which aren't part of that set but I'm missing 1-1/16 and 1-1/8. Would you say the S-K Wayne ratchet is newer and not part of that set? Also, the speeder handle is bent. What would be a safe way to straighten it out? I'll post a pic tomorrow of the bend. I also recall seeing a cross bar in that toolbox. I had no idea what it was or what it went to. Might it be for the 17" breaker bar? I'll have to check tomorrow to see if it's marked. Were the S-K cross bars marked?

That set also contains your 19/32" and 25/32" sockets and your 1/4" drive set. It shouldn't be too hard to find your missing sockets. The S-K Wayne ratchet is definitely more recent than the rest of your tools showing up first in '64 after the '62 Wayne acquisition. Hope that helps.

The SK sets that you have are extremely high quality. The exception to this would be the Wayne ratchet. Once the merger took place the quality fell off which is why I dump all of the Wayne stuff I come across.

That's so cool that I already have one full set (the small 1/4") and another almost filled out!!! What I thought might be the cross bar wasn't. Didn't even come close to looking like what was in the catalog. So I need the S-K box which I figure is likely going to be the hardest piece to find. The correct period ratchet, the cross bar and three 12-pt sockets - 1-1/8, 1-1/16 & 9/16. Need to get that speeder handle straightened. Here's pic of the bend.

Also, a pic of that piece I thought might be the cross bar. Anyone know what it is? No markings on it that I can find. It's got a knurled handled and two small nibs standing proud at the other end. It measures a hair under 5/8" (.624) diameter.

Just went to verify my 1/2" drive sockets were indeed 12-pt and looking at that lone 6-pt socket started wondering if that 4347 set came with 12-pt or 6-pt sockets standard? The 9/16" socket is the only 6-pt socket in my almost set but the part number is right in sequence with the other 12-pt sockets. That seems weird. Am I looking for a 9/16" 12-pt socket to replace that 9/16" 6-pt? I'm confused.

I may have a line of a 1/2" ratchet. Can someone please post pics of the 1/2" drive ratchet that would have sold with the 4347 S-K set back in the day? I suspect the correct ratchet would have the "S-K" within the diamond since all the other pieces except the sliding T-handle and the sockets are marked with that. Quick responses much appreciated!
