But why the twin pipes?

I have access to a 1978 crewcab 4x4 F700 and I really want to put a cummins in it. It has a 428 in it now, no power and lots of gas.

The F700 is not much larger, so it could be an issue as well.
Tilt hood or alligator hood? They have a real c channel frame rail in front and the engine sits deep I the frame so height shouldn’t be issues, length maybe, put a ln cab and hood on it and it would be factory looking

Alligator, but the front axle is a bit of a pain.

You can almost see it.

wow! that's a lot of choices! I guess I'd use the biggest one you could fit in there, as long as you don't have to remove too much of the rad header.

Looking good for sure!

We never sell trucks, we just build them and make them useful. We have purpose built more trucks, I think it is a sickness.

I don't want to hijack ZK's thread. I really should start a thread on our weird trucks. It is a shame that some of them are buried under all kinds of ****.

Looking forward to updates ZK!

Nice! I had to figure out a place for the ford temp sender in the cummins engine on my swap. I ended up taking the factory cummins one at the back of the head, cutting off both ends, drilling out and tapping the ford one right in.

Nice
That oil line work for you?
Haven’t gotten to guages and senders yet but my engine was a ford so I have to see what matches up on ohms, might be able to get away with ones in it....
Intercooler mounted, here’s cold side aluminum pipe. 3.5” ends

Clutch works, converted to hydro with 96 ford parts
Braced the inside of firewall flcrazy, zero firewall movement with clutch application. Only problem is pedal won’t return all way up due to over center springs. A helper spring I added fixed it but don’t know if best solution

Has a 1 piece downpipe that’s 4” from turbo to back of t case currently. Radiator/shroud/ fan situation almost done
Need to build coolant hoses/heater hoses, and then throttle linkage, honestly don’t have a clue on throttle setup yet, was low on priority list, clutch had to go in first.
Driveshafts getting cut this week
Zf medium duty ps pump is on and high pressure plumbed, need to mount the resivoir to radiator next time I have it out

Following with interest.. Love the look of the individual valve cover 5.9.. For a period in 1992 and 1993, I would occasionally run the station that installed those at the Columbus Midrange Engine Plant (Dodge / Ram / Chrysler)..... Install the valve covers, do the sub work (cover/seal) and "tamp" the rubber seal between the injector and the fuel line......

Cool, this engine is 93 build vintage but didn’t come out of a dodge plant.
It’s a nice looking engine especially with all the clutter gone, need to make simple heater hoses, and glad I’m using the ford intake horn instead of ugly dodge style everybody uses

Yep.. that "other" plant (in the US) was a joint venture between Cummins and JI Case called Consolidated Diesel.. They produced all this size (and the 8.3 displacement, along with the 4 cylinder version of the 5.9 (3.9)) for Case, and the balance went to Cummins customers.. When the Columbus plant was opened for Dodge, we were both supplying the engine to them.. at Dodge City and in Mexico.. We also had a plant at that time in the UK making this size engine, as well as others spooling up (joint ventures in particular). I remember the Ford style intercooler cross over well.....

Cool history, own a lot of consolidate diesel then. 95 8.3 p pump laying on a crate, pair of 93 5.9 and 8.3 in the gradall, and the case skid loader has a 4bt I’ve rebuilt already

Trying to make this one all ford, ford numbered engine, ford intercooler piping and clamps, boots, ford radiator, shroud and intercooler, ford zf ps pump, zf trans, ford clutch assembly under dash/master, np205 from a ford, ford style hydroboost, ford destined leece Neville alt for use with a ford external regulator sadly designed for a ln series with a 3208 that was laying as new in box on Work shelf with 4” dust on top.
Kinda built like a semi, all ford badged stuff from universal suppliers.

I have a 5.9 cummins that is ford badged, I wanted to use it to replace a worn out one in my freightliner, but I am almost thinking rebuild may be better. How bad is a 5.9 rebuild?

Well it’s not sleeved.....
Simple engine but will require machine work, not a simple in frame and spin in bearings

I just had a machine shop rebuild mine, and the whole bill was under 2500 not including the pump. The pump was another 1000, but it's good for 450hp now.

What thickness of feeler gauge do you use to measure the gap between the firewall & rear valve cover?:lol_hitti

Just kidding, it does look like a tight squeeze though. I like your plan to have it factory "appearing", by using as many Ford items as you can.:)

Might have more valve clearance than valve cover clearance currently

Good to know, I am not looking at any real horsepower needs, it is in a bucket truck. The weird thing is that it starts so well, yet smokes so bad. It has well over 10k hours on it. I don't remember the exact number, but I think it is closing in on 13k. A few people think it may actually just be the injectors, I do not know these engines well at all, I guess it is time to start learning.
