@HarveyM:
thanks for making the listing !

@mik641:
if you`re interested in the Bahco set it is also sold as "Irimo". I don`t know how the distribution is in new zealand, maybe its easier to get.

@Monte

what are you doing??? You can't make those copyright protected tests public!

@all
Don't trust those test, they are all not really serious! Look at the 2nd wrench test, a criteria is a pouch??? Who cares?
Sockettest:
BruederMannesmann has won a price? What? I kill their tools in 5 minutes!

@HarveyM
This ranking shows how un professional this test is.
Wisent and Proxxon better than Snap-on or Hazet? When you read the test carefully, you will figure out, that Hazet and Snap-on is extrem powerfull, the other two brands not.
It's the price and quantity that counts here! It has something to do with the germans mentality.

"Buy everything in a DIY brick, professional tools are not necessary because you don't need them."
and another hillbilly opinion
"What the farmer doesn't know, he will not eat it" that means"
"I don't care about new stuff, I can't see over the edge of a plate and if it's shiny...than it must be slippy **** from USA"

Those magazines are "amateurs with low experience" publications. Every professional mechanic should notice that after a short reading!

In that 1st wrench test stand under the stanley wrench set "Wann haben Sie das letzte mal einen 15er Schluessel gebraucht?" in US "when have you needed a 15mm wrench?"
They say, that a 15mm wrench increases the price and that this is not necessary!
I need VERY OFTEN A 15MM WRENCH!!!!
Asian and US cars are full with this size.

The article sais also:
"if somebody has a toolbox full of shiny tools, he will defend them with his life!But those people have not many friends. It's better to have cheaper non shiny tools which can be stolen and keep the friendship with the theft!"

Hell what is that for an ideology???
If somebody steals my 1 Euro Bit...I would kick his ****.

Further the award winning 1 Euro wrench from AJAY...seems that this wrench has a good value...but what must I read??? They found this wrench on a bargain plate??? So you can also say
"Found those Snap-on wrenches for 1$ at the fleamarket!"

Screwdriver test:
It counts that a screwdriver has a hole to hang them up?...a Gedore screwdriver has more power as a FELO or Witte??? Never...every mech say something else!

@Monte
post tool test from other magazine like Krafthand!

Servus,

why Stahlwille now ??

Two reasons:
I found a dealer who doesn't only offer me good prices but is also a nice guy to deal with. I'd rather give me hard-earned money to him than to one of the big wholesalers.
Second, Stahlwille is underrepresented in my collection: only a few female Torx sockets and a set of Electric wrenches so far.

Gedore once offered sixty percent rebate (don`t know if on all tools though) but it was reduced to 45% now.

That's interesting, I didn't know that the discount was reduced. I think they should have lowered the list prices along with that.

i emailed Unior yesterday to see if they have a dealer here but no response so far. I have to check them out "live" before i can say anything. Similar style tool boxes are available from Ebay for 100 bucks less or even more.
Metec/Gedore boxes should be available for the same price like Unior.

Some months ago, I had a look at Unior tool boxes at a show. My impression was good.
Unior Austria is very helpful with answering questions from experiences.
The Metec (series 60), Gedore and Vigor boxes that are available in this price class noticeably smaller. For example, drawer size Metec 60: 482 x 345 mm, compared to The EuroSTYLE with 585 x 405 mm.

I just called Wiha, but they didn`t know about them so i should call back tomorrow to speak to the sales rep who deals with Hoffmann/Garant. I will order the PB driver until 1/8/2010 when the sales ends :) But i`ve to collect some more bucks since i think i`ll get the new Bahco saw handle too, some locking pliers, the new Garant level, the Garant/PBswiss PH screwdriver set, eventually the Garant hex keys w/ ball retainer, maybe Wiha Inomic needle nose pliers, Garant cutter knife and maybe the rebadged VBW water pump pliers or pliers wrench

Apparently, my wish list doesn't differ much from yours.

The best is to call the Facom customer service....

Got a response today but they claim they can't inform me about the "details" of the production places. I sent them this link, maybe it helps them to understand my point of view.

@Monte

Yep, I'm not a lawyer/attorney, but as far as I know, posting these tests - and posting pics that don't belong to you (for example pics from tool manufacturers) - could get you in serious troubles.

BTW, I might be able to take a pics of some of my stuff by the end of this week. Any special requests? Tool box and close-ups of the Schröder and Crown screwdrivers?

Have a nice day,

Chreese

:D
On some issues i have to agree with hawk, because some "tests" are too subjective like the ergonomics of a tool, or in the screwdriver "test". 2 different people used the screwdrivers and then the torque they could apply was measured, but i doubt that the test person are able to hold the screwdriver always in the 90 degree angle and with the same pressure lets say 10 newton toward the screw. So only with a "screwdriver-robot" you could get real values. I am also missing a lifetime test in every test. Probably too expensive.
It also depends on how you read the "tests" , if you simply want the strongest wrench then Hazet is on place 1 and not 13. If you need a slim wrench Bahco is on place 1 if you want the cheapest the Ajay wrench etc....

@hawk: i have a torque wrench test from Krafthand here i`ll post when i find it and also 1 or 2 other test from the DIY car magazines :)

btw: The tests (and more) are available for everybody here: click
(in the newest issue is another socket set test.....) :)

And the other tests i just found in the internet somewhere...

I like that old Metabo.

My Milwaukee drills are great, but I wouldn't mind getting on of the newer Metabos.

Servus,

So let's get started.

First, an overview pic of some of the stuff I bought during the last months.

The second pic shows the Hazet 1/4" socket set No. 854.

Which model do you have ???

jjzgj24.jpg

Buying a set of Stahlwille No. 13 AF OPEN-BOX wrenches was on my mind. Now that I read the test, I don't know if I should invest the $$$.
Regards,
Chreese

You could buy the "Open Box 14" they have the same thickness on the open end like the Hazet`s.

ps: Nice tool haul !!
What`s inside the blue Orion box ?? a caliper ? The Atorn drivers look like Wiha...? Do they have a "made in Germany" on the flat yellow part of the handle ?? The socket looks like i would return it :) The Stahlwille screwdrivers look nice !!! i want !! :D Do you have a larger pic of the "Shaviv" tool ?

Yep, "Made in Germany". I might be able to take a pic tomorrow.

The socket looks like i would return it :)

Brand new 3/4" Stahlwille socket. I have a couple of older Stahlwille sockets too. This finish is new to me. I definitely will contact Stahlwille. Most other 3/4" sockets of the the socket set aren't finished at the level I expect from Stahlwille either.

Do you have a larger pic of the "Shaviv" tool ?

The "191A.22EL" end cutting nippers from Italy too. The "601" saw from France, the "DM.28-9" spark plug pliers France too. "97.14x15" Italy (double-ended socket wrench) "59TX.J4" Italy (Torx wrenches) "449I" Japan (crimping pliers) "U.306M" France (slide hammer) "55A.8X9" Taiwan (deep offset wrench) "44.8X9" Taiwan (open end wrench) "75.13" France (angled open-socket wrenches).

Are Makitas still made in England? If so find a website in the UK where I can buy one at. :)

I recently purchased a drill hammer from BOSCH. It was the only non "Made in China" drill I could find. I looked at over 15 different brands and about 6 Makita drills. The display unit for the Makita said "Made in Japan", but all the ones available for sale were "Made in China". I refuse to buy any tool "Made in China" :(. I will stick to European made things (with the ocassional Made in USA). So far the BOSCh works like a dream. I will take pictures tonight.

What a coincidence I'm saving up for a Bosch hammer drill. The one I'm getting is Made in Switzerland.

Please show some pics ! :)

I recently began clearing my garage and organizing it. While doing this, I realized I had a pathetic tool collection (two 3/8” socket sets with no name branding). I completed a timing belt change on my VW Passat and realized life would be easier with the proper tools.

I looked at many companies (Craftsman, Snap-On, Facom, Beta, Stahlwille, Gedore, Wera, and Hazet). It was a tough choice. All companies have their strengths and weaknesses. Facom has an impressive catalog and Wera is very innovative. However, it came down to Hazet vs. Stahlwille (i.e. Godzilla vs. King Kong). I ended up going with Hazet because of their greater catalog options and reputation (they sell gloves, LED lights, specialty tools, pry bars, etc.). The quality is pretty much the same between these two great companies.

Here are some pictures of my collection so far. I am awaiting a large order from Chadstoolbox and The Motoring Shop (right here in Orlando ). I will take pictures of the tools as I get them. I am now looking for a torque wrench and am leaning towards Stahlwille, but we will see.

First the BOSCH drill (Made In Switzerland :))

@Hazet

Your Hazet looking great with the blue tool box in the background.

Torquewrench:

If you can effort it, take Stahlwille, they build the one and only torquewrench which can abused as a breaker bar!
More: You can adjust your value extreme fast, just shift the button.

@chreese: called Wiha today. The "Garant" brand hex keys with ball retainer are made by Wiha exclusively for Hoffmann. Hoffmann customers asked them if they can make this style then they asked Wiha to make them. They will not be available through Wiha. The quality + functionality is the same - it`s a matter of taste if you prefer the ball retainer vs. the "magic ring".

ps: nice ratchet trio ! :) with matching sockets i see :)

Thanks for the details on the Garant hex keys, Monte.

Here are the pics of the 1/2" Berner ratchet you asked for. I still think it looks a lot like Facom. A few weeks ago, I disassembled it. The parts I found inside reminded me of the Facom spare parts set pictured in the Facom catalogue.

Monte,

The thread restorer... does it not say "Made in Israel" anywhere? I've seen them sold under different brands in different parts of the world. Original is NOGA.

I dont know, i took the pics a while back, but I`m pretty sure it is a original "Threadmate" from NES/Shilo. www.nes.co.il www.threadmate.com
Yes you`ll find it very often if you type in "threadmate". Garret Wade has them, Duluth, Griots,.... even Homedepot in Canada :) for 19.99$ click

@chreese: Thanks for the pics !
The same gear/pawl design Facom uses (and Berner) also Hazet uses, Gedore, and also the new Wurth ratchets (i think from Taiwan) and other brands use this style too. I guess it was invented by Facom. The Facom catalog says they "invented their ratchet in 1964 the first ratchet with patented mechanism with 72 tooth with a 5 degree swing arc."

Servus,

@Monte

Thanks for the information about the production place of the various Facom tools. I wonder why the employee who emailed me refused to share details with me while your questions were answered.
Basically, I'm still interested in the Torx wrenches, the fingertip ratchet and a number of pliers. Since I purchased 3/4" stuff from Stahlwille, the Facom K.152 is no longer on my list.

The Stahlwille screwdrivers are on sale (Stahlwille Focus). They cost me EUR 39.90 (without VAT).
BTW, I also got Stahlwille QuickRelease extensions in 1/4", 3/8" and 1/2". They seem to work fine with the different sockets I tested them. I returned the 1/4" Lokplus extensions from KS Tools because they didn't perform properly with a variety of sockets. I tried to take pics of the Stahlwille extensions but they came out pretty poor. I need to ask my brother for help around X-mas.

@Hazet

IMO, the finish of the Hazet Torx wrenches is rather unusual as there's obviously no polished part.

Chreese,

The pictures aren't loading up for me; anyone else?

Sorry, I don't know what the problem could be. Apparently, Monte can see them. Please try to reload the page.

@chreese: Thanks for the pics !

Do they also have this small wire "thing" within the head of the ratchet?
I don't care too much where the Berner ratchets are actually made but asking Berner could enlighten us.

Nice 90 years anniversary edition socket set !! I like the box very much, metal case, metal insert... For 90.- + tax it`s a steal !

ps:The newer Hazet Torx wrenches have a polished head (on the side/the "ring")
ps: sometimes the pics disappear, also in the german forum ...
ps: The "wire thing" is to switch the ratchet from left to right

@Hawk: you need a new dealer !

Yeah the ratchets are not really beautifull :) But they change from a ugly duckling to a beautiful swan while you work with them :)
Or i would take the ratchet Chreese posted, a more modern design with fine tooth mechanism.
