Garage door opener?

So, I just finished re-framing my garage and installing a new door. The old setup was very uneven on the wall and poorly installed, not to mention it was a wood door. I double studded the frame of the door and did a 2x6 header. It's MUCH more secure now. I installed a Menards 9x7 R6 insulated white steel door with new track, rollers, and reinforced the rear track hangers. The new door is also an EZ torsion spring setup as well. Between wood, door, and hardware I'm probably into for about 350 bucks. Local companies wanted 600 dollars just to install the door, no framing, etc. I figured I saved myself quite a bit of money.

At this point all that's left is to install an opener. I'm looking heavily at the Liftmaster 8500 as it's been highly recommended. I like the idea of not having all the opener garbage in the middle of the ceiling, plus the 8500 isn't that much more than a decent belt drive.

What do you guys recommend? Any other recommendations as far as the garage door install goes?

Might want to research the issues with the openers going bad. After a few years they die and the door opens on its own. Seems like it’s an issue with the myq controller liftmaster uses. I wanted one too but I think I’m going to pass.

I've heard about that, but honestly that's a small issue to think of down the road. For the space it saves, the smartphone integration, and the reasonable price I think I'd be good.

I've enjoyed mine. One issue I have with the wall opener is sometimes the light will get stuck on. No idea why. I have to push the light button several items and it will finally cycle off and back to normal. Minor issue once every few months.

Otherwise I really like my 8500.

Ended up ordering the 8500 online. It was 290 with free shipping. Cheapest I could find it. Should be here end of the week. All I've got left is to trim the outside door frame, cover it with fascia, install the stop moulding, and install some brick moulding. Door opens and closes very smoothly. After that I'll be installing a new walk-in door. One project at time.

Are you using LED or florescent bulbs?
