So, I just finished re-framing my garage and installing a new door. The old setup was very uneven on the wall and poorly installed, not to mention it was a wood door. I double studded the frame of the door and did a 2x6 header. It's MUCH more secure now. I installed a Menards 9x7 R6 insulated white steel door with new track, rollers, and reinforced the rear track hangers. The new door is also an EZ torsion spring setup as well. Between wood, door, and hardware I'm probably into for about 350 bucks. Local companies wanted 600 dollars just to install the door, no framing, etc. I figured I saved myself quite a bit of money.
At this point all that's left is to install an opener. I'm looking heavily at the Liftmaster 8500 as it's been highly recommended. I like the idea of not having all the opener garbage in the middle of the ceiling, plus the 8500 isn't that much more than a decent belt drive.
What do you guys recommend? Any other recommendations as far as the garage door install goes?
