Nice pile of iron 1bad.---I want one of those Studebakers myself, but you just don see them to often.---Actually I would like to procure all the vises with car names, I already have a couple of Dodge, a Mercury, a Cobra, and a Metro, but the Studebaker and the Bugatti is where I figure to hit a snag.![]()
I believe you have past the point of no return in the vise vice.

Figured it's about time I posted some of the vises I found over the summer. In the photos, Studebaker Machine Co vise, Wilton 4" bullet, and craftsman vise.

Like that Studebaker Machine Co vise.
How does it open/close the jaws?

Fantastic job as usual!
Now some posts back there was a short discussion as to what is more appropriate way to refer to a vise, pretty or Ruggedly Handsome. Now by extension as far as stands go, well in MHO, your straight stand and the Prentiss 20 on top of it are definitely "Ruggedly Handsome".
As for the curvy double pinstriped babe, well gosh darn it, I have to say it, it is just darn beautiful and dating myself, this is the Sharon Stone of stands and yes certain scene from the former has all these years permanently fused itself somewhere in my brain. I hope your stand does not do the same to my brain

That's what she said!

Scott: if you might want to make a new handle for your new Wilton and a swivel pin handle there are several posts on the vise repair 101 thread in vintage tools section that mention that. or just ask and somebody here will help you. Royce just made a nice big handle for his big REED a few posts back and several ways to make one if you want to.
welcome to the group and you've got a solid user there.

Thank you. Yes, it need a new handle and I noticed new ones are available from Wilton for like $160 !! The bolts and lock-downs for the swivel don't seem too bad at around $14.
First I just need to get it correctly disassembled and cleaned up for evaluation.

Scott: if you don't think you have the time or materials to make a new handle and you'd like a better one there are several ways to make one quickly so just ask on the vise repair 101 thread and we'll help you. that post of Royce's new handle on his big REED is actually on the 101 thread and he tells you how he made his.

or i think one of the members can provide one easily as nice as Wilton's for maybe a third of what a new one costs. the little swivel handle is even easier to make or just use a screwdriver on the rare occasion you might need to use the swivel option.
good luck
Drive, my apologies. Actually I miss read that. I read it as “ I don’t think you have” verse “if you don’t think you have”....
Scott:
Royce: as usual you make some AMAZING STANDS. do you sell them locally, on Ebay or just plan on keeping and using all of them. i still would like some day maybe build something similar to your double vise stand with all the rotating options.
Drives, I agree that is a very useful and a beauty of a vise stand. However, my favorite stand by Royce is the one that has a vintage fire hydrant with a plate along the top holding 5 or 6 vises. Unfortunately I don't have a pic at my disposal, pretty sure someone has it to post, it was spectacular!
Just thought i’d Post pics of my small vise collection. Columbian 605, athol 614 1/2, Dunlap 5239. Did a cleaning, lube and paint job.

ALL: speaking of cool stands a couple years ago i probably would have just driven to buy this, but i'm hesitating cause i don't NEED IT or have a good spot for it so thought i'd post a picture and see if any of you might want it more. it's not cheap, but might be negotiable. it has that COOL LOOK
Drives: that stand def has that COOL look. [emoji106]
Thought I'd post a pic of the post vise stand I built a few years back. Ready for my dedicated blacksmith area I'll never get around to.
The pedestal is a 14" ductile water pipe filled with rebar and concrete. Studs embedded in the concrete for attachment of top and accessories.

I had posted pics of my first vise find (Rock Island 574) and rebuild a couple of years ago. I had lost the finished pics but recently found them on a CD I had put away.
Anyway here you go:

Hey Versa Vise guys, my new to me VV came without the little screw adjuster that locks the vise to the base. I temporarily installed a 3/8" fine thread bolt, works fine. I found a pic of the screw, basically looks like a piece of threaded rod with a screwdriver slot in one end, and a slit thru the middle about halfway down on the other end. Is the long split to spread it apart a little for a self locking effect? Also, any chance somebody could hook me up with a decal? Never made a decal, and only have a monochrome laser printer.
TIA, Jim
MGM: is that you smiling around all those BIG VISES? thanks for the tour!!
Scott: the main thing i wanted to say was if you might need help either making or finding new or like new parts for you Wilton there's a good chance one of us might have some or know where to get them.
