Picked up a few things at an estate sale this past weekend. A small metal cabinet that needs to be refinished, some v blocks, and a "set" of small bench tools (vise, press, and possibly a punch?).

No names on any pieces of the set that I could find. Does anyone know who made them? Possibly home brew?

For reference, the vise opens up about 4 inches.

Lugz That Vlchek driver is at the top.
I see it. Man, we're killing the VEP Vlchek. :D

Those Krauteers look amazingly similar to the X series BluePoint wrenches of that same vintage.
I was thinking the same. First one I picked up I thought it would be BP. Didn't realize just about every company back then made single offsets too!
I have a hard time believing Kraeuter made those. I have seen DOE wrenches with Kraeuter markings that I was highly skeptical of before. I'll have to see if I can find any pictures. Kraeuter was primarily a pliers house. Maybe they tried to expand with contract wrenches.

SP, all three appear to be shop made. Likely in a commercial shop not a home garage (unless VERY well tooled...)

Lugz, I think the same. Later they had sockets and ratchets, and certainly weren't making them...

Found a set of GearWrench's NIB at a local yard sale. Figured for 20 bucks I could give them a shot.

Scored this gem off CL for 400 bucks a couple weeks ago. KRL1001B. Modern day version is nearly identical is the krl1022 that is about $8k. 54" wide by 29" deep. A little dirty but still in decent shape. A couple of the drawer latches need replaced and a couple of the slides need cleaned and re-lubed. I swear they worked in a sand blasting shop. As much overspray and paint drips I cleaned off it. I'd believe it came from a body shop.

They had it for 450 and no one bit on it after it was 1200, then 800, then 450. Drove 3 hours to get it. Lol. They needed to pay rent was the story the seller gave me....Got a receipt and had my snap on rep run the numbers on it.

The picture made it look like a kra box to most people. Sure it had dents and dings. Sure I spent 3+ hours cleaning the grease and sand out of it... but

I knew what it was. I Have a 1022 with end cab full already. It cleaned up nice but I may repainted it this winter if I get really bored. I can't stand the faded red.

Went back to that estate sale. Yesterday the fellow said "we keep finding more stuff" so it was worth a shot. It was picked over more, but I dug around some more and came up with some stuff. Like Saturday, I good a good bundle.

Some of the stuff is for my tool boxes and some sentimental value. The pry bars are light and will go in car tool boxes. The keyhole saw is an exact match for one I got for Christmas at a very early age.

The most useful item is not shown: a classic wear ever fry pan lid that will fit my 14 inch fry pan. Nothing has been able to cover that pan until now.

I've not categorized these yet but some of the brands found are:

VLCHECK
Billings
Herbrand
Trufit
P&C
MAC
Barcalo/Barcalo Buffalo
Penens
Williams
Dreadnaught

I am not sure what in the world I am going to do with a sampling from so many brands, but for now it's interesting learning about all these old school tool companies. I find the hex drive interesting, but there are no real marks on it and there's only a couple letters left on the case sticker. The copper Herbrand would have been interesting but I already read the thread about the copper wartime wrench that lines up with Navy use. And for the record I make no claims to it's age, manufacture, history, or involvement in a special misson

Kevin.

That green rack is most likely Indestro.

Angry- 400 is great for a big Snap On cabinet. Especially compared to new. You mention painting, if I had to guess its future color...hmmm.

Here 's the wrench and pliers I wasn't sure on.

The combo wrench comes up as a Caterpillar. Looks like maybe Proto made it. Have to wonder why no logo, and what tbe S represents. Odd because I just posted a Snap On made Cat wrench earlier this week. Wouldn't expect to find them both in the same week.

The strange looking pliers are coming up as a tool for Mercury Mercruiser Propellers. What would it grip, a clip or lock ring maybe?

That is a solid 'You ****'! What an amazing deal. I find it so hard to believe that despite living in such a heavily populated area, I cannot find a decent deal on a box anywhere around here. (philly area)

I've owned a lot of snap on boxes over the years.. I've never once found a deal like that and I search CL, ebay, Letgo, etc like a hawk

Those pliers are used to bend over a locking tab under a propeller nut. Can see how they would be useful, it's a bit annoying to get a grasp on those tabs sometimes.

I haven’t posted in a while but I’m pretty excited on this purchase. Spent $40 on the 6” craftsman joiner with motor and $20 on the orbital palm sander.

Good prices there guys.

Bagged, nice to see you stop in. Sometimes I wonder where a few of the guys drifted off to. Haven't seen Nine, Merc, or Tpop in a bit. Others too. Then again, wow, we're a ways into November. Where did the year go? I think the move threw me all off. Plus, time flies when you're having fun.

M George, you might want to check out this thread:

3/8 drive head in 1/4 ratchet body .

Outlaw is a major contributor there. How I managed to not post anything in that thread yet..:headscrat I need to dig up a picture or two.

Washoe miner's pick ... free! Also a Plumb axe head, but alas beat to heck and cracked. But how can you pass up free? Many more items I was able to swoop up, get them up here as I get them out.

It's fun to look back at the GS threads. Time consuming too. I went through one a while back, mostly looking at pictures, and split it up in two parts. If you really want to have fun, read some of the comments. Some funny stuff mixed in there.

The instigator.

BlueBomber - here's the Kraeuter set.

View media item 76479

Only the largest is stamped on the top, the rest underneath. I hope to clean these up.

View media item 76480

Those Kraeuter single offsets are awesome! I've never seen one.......I hear there's a site where you can upload oddball stuff like that to track the history as a community...............:deadhorse

The way the shank narrows at the head is somewhat unique.

Very nice find on the CMan jointer! I managed to get a 4" for $30 at an estate sale. Needed a little cleaning up, re-wiring the motor (no power switch and frayed wires), and had to make a home-made guard. But otherwise I'm happy with the purchase till I can find a 6" or 8" for cheap.

Yea I️ also have a 4” jointer I️ picked in the spring. I️ paid like $10 for just the unit. I️ might just keep both because they are cool but I’m going to use the 6”.

I’m in the middle of a remodel on my house and a new baby on the way in January so I’ve been crazy busy. I’ll be back up on here more often in a few months.

Good Morning All,

I had to do a double take stumbling across this. I guess I did a triple take to make sure it really said $1. Lucky find as I don't see much gun related stuff here in Cali.

This may not be garage territory. I've not tested the waters to see if this activity will be relegated to the garage.

I've used a Lee Load All before when I was away at college. It's not as nice as the MEC sizemaster I grew up with, but it is very functional.

Happy Hump Day...downhill slide into this weeks garage/rummage/flea sale cycle.

I'd buy that for a dollar!

Only problem reloading shotgun shells is not primers or powder... It's the cost of shot!

I'd buy that for dollar...I hope that is an original Robo Cop reference!

In some calibers it's just cost-prohibitive to reload your own now.

In Cali we going full lead free so i'm going to have to "bite the bullet" since i have a few finicky eaters. There just is not the same variety of copper rounds. They say you can subtract 10 grains since the copper does not shed as mujch weight on impact, and the prospect of pushing a 140 gr out of an '06 at near 7MM RM speeds sounds cool on paper. Whether she likes that or not is a different matter. We'll see how the experiments go.

But I digress. Back to garage sales!

A friend of mine who runs estate sales called to tell me she was setting one up with a garage "full of tools". I showed up 5 minutes later to find a garage full of rusty garden tools and Chinese junk tools still in the boxes. Bless her heart.
I think I managed to pick out the only old stuff in the whole place. A New Britain/husky socket set, a pair of diamond water pump pliers, Snap-on needle nose, 4" Diamond Calk and 6" Proto adjustables.

Not a garage sale but an auction. Bid and won the Bernard cooler for $45. Bought untested and it does work! The wheels I bid up to $8 for choice of bucket or crate of wheels. Another guy I know won at $10 took both and sold me 4 for $10, he had 12 left which was fine in my book he was going to go much higher anyways. I bought the 4' x 5' 1/2" plate off the same guy I got the wheels from for $15. He bought a bunch of scrap and didn't want to have to move the plate.

Good day at the auction!

Forgot to post this yesterday.......It was nut driver day at the flea market ;)

20171109_180007.jpg

Got a nice 7 pc set of Craftsman cushion grip nut drivers (made in USA).....

20171109_180018.jpg

The rest of them are a mixture of nice ones and ones that have led a rough life  they're functional but some have pliers marks on them......

20171109_180025.jpg

The lady selling them, threw in the Klein folding hex keys for free (missing the 2 smaller keys).....

20171109_180051.jpg 20171109_180043.jpg

total spent = 3 bucks

p.s. - these tools didn't look this good when I bought them, but they cleaned up nicely

I picked this up from Ebay Kleinanziegen, sort of like the German version of Craig's List, for $45 a few months ago. I figured it was an old German brand tool box and the owner didn't know anything about it. It is very sturdy and quite heavy. I didn't realize it was a Snap-On until I stumbled across a picture of one on another thread recently. Checked the back and sure enough it's a KRA-300J dated 1984. A few of the drawer slides need some attention but everything works and it is in decent condition minus a small dent and the grey drawer fronts. I'm pretty happy for under $50.
