5.11 Tac light pro, IIRC.

They were around $70 but the waist stretches and there are a lot of pockets and also the fabric is tough and doesn't stain easily. Dripped coffee wipes right off and doesn't leave much of a mark.

I have not used them for heavy fabrication/auto work where they would get extremely dirty and they will likely melt from sparks since they are 65% polyester and 35% cotton.

The work I wear these for is doing sharpening and repairs, as well as sales, for the grooming industry where I have to go to the customer's location. These are comfortable for driving, kneeling, etc. and the pen pocket is great as I don't wear shirts with pockets. When I compete at the shooting range, the pockets work good for AR mags, stick mags for my carbine, and extra pistol mags that don't go on my belt. The dirt and oils from the guns washes right out.

For welding, I use my painters pants (used to be a painter) but they are blended as well and melt from sparks. They also don't cost nearly as much as 5.11 pants. Jeans may be an option for darker work pants, but the comfort doesn't compare to the 5.11 and painters pants are more flexible than some jeans.

I don't always welcome the chance to kneel before our robot overlords, but when I do, I wear cotton pants. They don't stick to the skin when on fire like the poly products.

Carhartt Duck Carpenter Pants. Seem to hold up ok. Like their jeans too.

When I worked in a machine chop I was all about the overalls though. Big Smith's.

I just switched from 40 years of Dickies to Redcap cargos. I am not as lite or limber as I was 40 years ago and these are really nice work pants that are comfortable.

Made in USA, also have some really interesting products like the Yorktown tool bag and AIMS add-on system.

Again, havent tried them but likely ordering myself some for the holidays. Tired of Carrhart quality...

Went through about 4 pair of Carhartt jeans that all tore in the first week. Wear Kirkland signature jeans now because they're like $25 and last like 6 months. Interested to see what better options are out there as well.

Dickies carpenter pants from Wal-mart, varying colors. They're $20-25/pair and last about a year of weekly washings.

I tried Duluth Trading carpenter pants at about twice the price and they seemed to perform/hold up about as well, so I chose the cheaper option.

Glad this topic came up. I’ve been wondering where I could get some tougher jeans. The likes of Levi’s and similar just don’t work for me. It seems only a matter of time before I start getting holes wore through.

Could not find my size of Dickies carpenter pants so checked Amazon. Just have to be patient as they will be travelling on a slow boat from China.

This is going to sound silly, but Abercrombie has some super nice quality denim, and when they run sales, you can get them for around the $20-30 dollar range. Super thick yet movable, as well as "stylish" if you're into that kind of thing. I've been using the same 2 pairs as work jeans for the last year or so, and just recently one of the knees started to give out (I used to work on UPSs/DC plants for datacenters/radio towers/manufacturing plants, so kneeling was commonplace every day). Never had good luck with Levis or Carhartt carpenter pants myself, but those darn Abercrombie jeans are super tough.

Riggs (made by Wrangler)
outlasted the Carhartts.
get the ones with the pocket in the knee so you can slip the foam knee pads into them - toss 'em right into the wash with the pads in them.

Seeing as how you chaps over there call trousers pants, what do you call pants, (undies|underpants|knickers|underwangers|budgie smugglers etc.)?

In the home shop it’s Wrangler Riggs, at the day job it’s whatever **** the uniform company delivers. I really like the Riggs they’re comfortable and durable.

Duluth fire hose flex for me. I have several pairs. I have a few of the regular fire hose also. They have replaced 3 of my oldest pairs for the cost of return shipping only under their lifetime warranty. While they are more expensive than some others, they will be the last pair you have to buy.

Here in Canada,Wal Mart sells the brand,"Rustler" I work in a dealership that does't supply us with uniforms, strange i know, and that's what a couple of us wear. They have been durable and around $20-25 per pair.

Jean’s ??? I wear Carhartts, Dickies, Riggs, Wrangler and Levi's jeans.

And Out of them all I still perfer Jean hands down. Day in day out I beat them to hell and back yet they keep coming back for more. And Tree work is about as rough on clothes as it gets.

I have at least half a dozen carhartt pants with holes and torn this or that cuffs etc..

The dickies are great for in and around the shop but useless for tree work...

The Riggs I only have one pair but have held up extremely well although I don’t really like how they fit. It’s More of a personal thing maybe I just need the next size up but all and all great pants.

And About 8 pairs mixed Levi’s and Wanglers. As I said I’ve tried to wear em out, but I can’t seem to do so. I have one pair with holes in the knees but it took years to do that...

I was wearing Dickies but I found them very slim fitting, and I'm not a big guy, so I decided to try the Duluthflex Fire hose pants. I received them this past weekend and have been trying them out, they seem OK so far. I'm about a 33" waist, which Duluth doesn't offer, even sizes only, so I ordered the 34's. They're a bit loose/baggy feeling so I'll have to see how they hold up (literally). If it's one thing I cant stand its droopy pants.

dickies carpenter pants
Reasonable price. Side pocket and hammer loop. Loose enough to squat down without binding. Fairly hard to burn through if you grind or weld. Wear 'em every day.

At home Big Bill / Dickies originals

The Dickies cargo pants fit tight compared to the originals.

My wife just had some womens work pants show up in the mail yesterday.

Nothing like ruining good clothes while you're at home.

Whatever crappy jeans the uniform company supplies. they give me 11 sets a year and after a year the jeans are pretty crapped out.

Mwz31 ridgid wranglers. Wear like iron for 25$. Get an honest year and a half of factory maintence work out of them.

Don't get pre washed jeans. The acid solution weakens the fibers and you will only get half the life out of them.
