Nice! I enjoyed working in Europe wearing my cowboy boots. A lot of interest in US Western Heritage in the UK, Netherlands, Germany, as you well know. It surprised me. Glad I could tell people I actually own cows.:lol_hitti:lol_hitti

Great thread and updates Don, as always.
I like the new jack you found.
Looking forward to its recovery process.
This really made me smile, now I know where the more modern Gilbarco company name came from.
And the badging is very nice this will clean up great

Thanks for dropping in Grizz

It's nice to know that you enjoy my thread. I enjoy finding things and showing them here. The badging is what sold me on the pump

Hopefully the list for moving in will be a bit shorter once the Western Town is built, im sure some of the people in line need to go straight in the jailhouse.. talking of which.. sorry to ask, but a friend of mine wants to know, will there be a house of ill repute?

Baron
No girly exhibits here except the saloon will have a hotel up stairs.

DON: while i understand the ADRENALIN RUSH of some things I still don't get putting your nice rig or maybe life in danger driving on some of the stuff some of the guys do.

i'm very happy you had a good time and that you got to spend some quality time with your son.

your standards are way higher than most of ours so whatever you decide to do to spiff things up is your call and as always if you might need any help or advice just ASK.

take care and hope your weather isn't 30mph winds and sideways rain like mine has been most of the day.

Sorry to hear about the bad weather in Wa. Drives
I did enjoy the weekend with the kid. When I get back to working in the garage rather than on the garage i'll be asking your opinion for sure. Thanks for the offer

Suitably inspired by all the wonderful neon in your amazing garage, i have just installed my very first (hopefully not last) piece of neon in my humble garage.. ok, so its only a Coca-Cola clock but its a star

'library picture', thats not my wall.

Nice clock Baron
Be careful that neon bug bites hard and it's hard to shake it lol

Looks like an awesome time was had!!!

I was heavy into the street rod and drag racing scene until I started playing with Jeeps years ago. Now I can't get enough Jeeping.

We have a group of RVers that we travel with around most of the western U.S. and find Jeep trails wherever possible and make the best of them.:) We are about the only ones still working full-time as most of them are retired but we try to meet up with them as much as we can throughout the year. I believe many are in or will be in the Parker area for the remainder of the year until the next rally in QZ in late January/early February.

You may be hooked now.;)

We may have been with your group Z
There were about 150 jeeps in all. This run was sponsored by the AZ. jeep club. You are right Jeeping is very infectious.
Thanks for dropping by.

:( Wouldnt do for me, i prefer being right way up, i dont even like adverse camber corners on mountain pass roads. :headshake:rolleyes:

Baron

You don't know what you are missing

Flamingo Rose's Bordello and Beers.

Don a little bunkhouse would be cool for GJ guest or grandkids.

Like I said Shorty

The hotel is above the saloon no second class bunk house in my town lol

You got some cool tools bub!

Maybe I need to come out and consult on the blacksmith setup or do you have smithing experience? It would be nice to have a work in progress sitting on the anvil.

Have we seen that anvil? Do you know the maker?

When you take your redneck trip spend a day in the forge with me.

Please.

I know nothing about blacksmithing so if you want to spend time in So Cal in 70 degree weather rather than the cold snow it's fine with me.
That anvil is sitting outside my woodshop but I haven't looked it over but I will tomorrow.
Spending a day with you would be great (I've milked a cow before)
I have a few other smithing pieces sitting around the yard.

I still need to finish up the door jamb, the window jambs and the window sills.
One side of the glass block is lit but doesn't change color yet and I need to build the light box for the right side.
I also have built shelves to fit on the Lt. & Rt. sides of the room that need a granite top to match the window sills

Don's Ice Cream Parlor

Come in for a Long break

Shop is fantastic.:bowdown::bowdown:

If I could get away I'd be out to visit in a flash!

It's a very fun and inviting addition to the Big Party Garage. And now each party has a place for that ice cream desert. Another well done job Don. Great work!

Hey Don! A couple of things. The ice cream parlor, am I to assume the diner is still intact? those booths look familiar. And, the western town is back on the board? Any thoughts of maybe a caboose in town? I'm kinda a train nut if ya haven't figured it out, LOL. I've always wanted to build an old western town even if it was just a small model, I can't wait to watch this build.

No the sign guy is working on my flst blowtorch no store name picked out yet but I just remembered that I have an old neon can that I could design for the parlor we'll have to think on that a while.
Too bad you can't get away. The weather is just grand this time of year.

Hi Jeff

Yes the diner is in tact. The ice cream booths and tables were a donation from a good friend (the same fellow I bought the BIG coke sign from)

The western town will be a next year project that will take some time to complete and A buddy of mine is trying to get me to buy a caboose that his neighbor has but I'm slowing down fast and don't need another major project,
Nice to hear from you again.

DON: how about naming the ICE CREAM PARLOR ANN'S or does she have a nickname she likes better?

great work on the walls of the parlor and the insides were already awesome. i don't think you spent more than a couple months getting all those signs restored and in place, the booths and tables set up and your guy looking like he's been in the back serving ice cream for years. WELL DONE!!

I don't know how easy it would be to transport a CABOOSE, but i bet ANDY does or how expensive it would be to buy so i'll leave that to you. you've got my vote to get it if it's in the cards cause if you have the room it might really make your new Western town's street pop. hell you could probably shoot a movie at your place or have they already?

have a great day!!

I had to google 'Caboose'.. ive never heard of one before! I suppose our equivalent would be a 'Guards Van' but they were more basic, i guess because we dont have the same distances to cover. Is this what youre talking about?

Thanks for the suggestion Drives

Ann doesn't want her name in my garage.

The caboose isn't as hard to move as you may thing. It is just sitting on the wheel carriages and a crane will put the cabin on a flatbed the wheels are the heavy part of the caboose and you must have a couple of rial road rails to put it on when you get it home. (It's only money) lol

BVW

You gave me a good chuckle with your Guards Van.
Yes that is it. The good ones are made of wood the later models were covered with steel. Each train company had a different caboose style and configuration.
They had neat old wood burning stoves in them too.

LOTS OF WORK TO RESTORE ONE

Its funny to see what 40 years do to an industry such as the railroad. They went from having 2 or 3 men in the caboose, to just a blinking red light attached to the last train car. And they call it progress.
That's a nostalgic problem with people who collect things, just hate to see some things go for the more better!
I can remember when I was a kid who literally lived on the wrong side of the tracks, the rail line was about 100yards from out trailer park. I had a conductor that would wave and of course blow the horn after I gave him the yanking signals ( works on truck drivers too) , then when the caboose went by, got the same friendly wave as they headed down the tracks.

And the Atchson, Topeka and Santa Fe (AT&SF or just Santa Fe) called them Way Cars.

Mine was moved by house movers, with a big gin pole truck, they lifted one end off the truck (wheel bogey) and set it on house moving axles then tailboarded the other end with the gin poles and headed down the highway at 65 mph. A smaller truck picked the trucks and carried them.

I had as much money in prep as moving, 12" of rock for ballast, 40 or so railroad ties, and 80 ft of railroad rail. I did find cheap rail from the refinery I worked in. It was buried in trees and the junk man would not take it. My rail was rolled in 1887 so it was moved to Oklahoma as used rail.

This is looking serious, Don:thumbup::thumbup:

He does look pissed and refuses to talk about it. I don't think it's the job though

I remember as a kid we lived close to an active train track and I loved hearing the whistle at night and we always looked for the caboose to go by while playing by the tracks.

No Andy
No worries for you having competition.
As much as I'd love to have one here, I don't want the project to make it look good or the challenge of moving one.
You can still be the only guy we all know who has a caboose in their yard.

Thank you for all the comments and turkey wishes.
I've been traveling around Arizona for Thanksgiving and had no way to communicate on the computer. But I did check in on my phone from time to time.

Drives Did make it over for a visit on Tuesday. But no help with Walter lol.
I must say that we had a G R E A T time meeting for the first time.
He brought his sweet wife along and met Ann. The 4 of us had a fun day.
(My opinion) Drives is as great a guy in person as he projects through his comments and questions here on the GJ.
I hope he can return soon.

I invite all of you who come to So. Cal. in your travels, to stop by for a visit.

We started off at our vacation home on the Colorado river

IMG_1916 by don long, on Flickr

On Friday morning we headed out for parts unknown Our goal was to drive a big circle around Az never driving on a major freeway.
We found places like these

IMG_1919 by don long, on Flickr

IMG_1933 by don long, on Flickr

And we stopped in and looked around finding many treasures to drag home

Bobby
I thought of you and your wife working hard when we ran across this

And when I saw this on the bench I thought of You Drives

IMG_1962 by don long, on Flickr

We found Indian ruins

And saw interesting things in the desert like this birds nest

IMG_1969 by don long, on Flickr

We drove over 1300 miles round trip and filled the car with many treasures

When I got home this afternoon I unloaded the car and this is what we found as we traveled around Az.

IMG_2026 by don long, on Flickr

Here are some closeups of a few of the treasures.
I think the floorjack was the winner. I've never seen one like it before.

IMG_1977 by don long, on Flickr

The next best for me was this old spark plug tester/cleaner

IMG_1979 by don long, on Flickr

I have a Sinclair 5 gal bucket like this one but 2 is always better than 1

IMG_1978 by don long, on Flickr

We gathered lots of nice cans of all different kinds along with this nice small cabinet of drawers

Don looks like a great trip. The pole shed for the mill is coming along great. I got to see the Indian cliff caves when I was out there in 96 but not enough time to pick plus I flew. Some great pictures also. Did you buy the mill?

Don: thanks again for working my wife and I into yours and Ann's schedule. we really enjoyed our time with you and would love to stop by again if it's in the cards.

I wish i was closer so i could go on some of those picking trips and i'm guessing Ann likes them maybe as much or more than you do. also wish i was able to help you build that WESTERN TOWN you are talking about and have in your plans.

great looking big REED and was it bigger than your Wilton? i like the older REED vises a bit more than the ones with those type of jaws and huge name on the side, but i certainly would make an offer to buy that one if it wasn't being used. here's the big Reed that might be a similar size that i have sitting inside my storage unit in case i need to use a big vise there.

your PARTY GARAGE was more fun than UNIVERSAL STUDIOS that we visited the day before and of course meeting you and Ann in person while you showed us around was amazing.

THANKS AGAIN!!
