It's like this with everything. When something new comes out, it's not always tested or engineered like it should be. Sometimes it's a good idea that simply can't work due to the available technology at the time. Here's where I'm headed:

Automatic transmission's were, for the most part, were junk when they first became available. They're just about bullet proof these days. Better materials, better fluid, better technology. Ratchets are no different.

I was taught to use a breaker bar on really tight stuff, a coarse ratchet on tight stuff, and a fine tooth for limited access applications. After owning my FLF80(early model with USA stamped on it :D) for several years now and not being able to hurt it, I'm sold on the Snap-ons. I now own 5 Dual80's in various trim and a couple of T72's. The S80's are next on my list, although I can honestly say my old ones(SF936, SF832, SL711, __71) have never given me any trouble, but it would be nice to have a higher tooth count sometimes.

Fine tooth for me too. I have one course tooth ratchet left in my box, and I only keep it because well, I am attached to it. It was a gift.

I agree. Do the other round heads have plastic adjuster knobs? I used it the other night to replace a tensioner and the swivel head was awsome (never used one before).

Anyone know how to take it apart? Would like to take a look inside.

depends completly on the work which has to be done! i have no special favorite...72+ teeth are great...but really, how often do you ned this? i have both type of ratchets and when i work i don't think about how many teeth my ratchet has...only how i solve the problem. i would say that for me in 98% a 36 tooth ratchet is enough, but 80 tooth is smoother :D
