Update...
That listing is already deleted by owner...usually because it has sold

Sometimes it gets removed after being reported as a scam. if you see a great, big ticket item, like a tractor or a engine welder, unbelievably cheap, its often a scam. I do a google image search on the photo in the ad and find its listed all over the country in different local craigslists with different local locations listed. i found a crazy cheap ford tractor, and i checked the photo, and it was listed in tennesee, north carolina, florida, iowa, upstate new york, all with different local neighborhoods listed, and all fractured english wording. the next week, the ads disappeared when you clicked them.

Many dont know you can do a nationwide craigslist search, to get an idea of prices, by using the general craigslist.org URL. for example, to look at a bunch of Lincoln SA-200 welders, go to google and type in the exact phrase

lincoln sa-200 site:craigslist.org

see what stuff goes for.

Speaking of craigslist, is this a normal thing? I email a guy with my phone number asking if a certain item he has is still available. he replies yes. we talk on the phone in the morning, and i say i will be there in about an hour. he said fine, and gave me the address. half hour later, he calls me and says he sold the item. WTF? Is that how people deal with folks today?

Sadly it is a normal thing from greedy sellers with no ethics. I know since I sell on CL all the time and run into such people quite often .....But on the other hand here's the problem.....some people also never show when they say they are on the way too so perhaps the seller didn't want to lose a sale....he could have at least called you first and give you first refusal.

I had other things to say but felt my post was too long and boring.

Yes, completely normal to a degree. Craigslist is generally a first come, first serve scenario. Craigslist is so rampant of flakes especially the ones who will only text that you pretty much have to take what you can get. The one who comes first gets it.

On the other hand, if you speak to a seller and you say you can come right over to buy it and I sounds adamant that I'm making an effort to buy it, telling them I live 1/2 hour away and that I' can be there in 1/2-1 hour-ish and ask them if they will hold it for me then I definitely expect them to hold the item for me if I arrive at said time . I know I would hold the item for that person, after a good conversation about the item and feel the guy sounds for real but generally I'm not going to wait days if I'm getting a bunch of other calls.

If you say I'm interested and would like to look at it later over the weekend, then you pretty much leave yourself open to losing the item. A maybe buyer/tire kicker sounding is way different to someone who actively says I want it and I'm coming right over. Someone who says I want to look at it first doesn't leave the seller all warm and fuzzy inside about a deal happening and will almost always take the 1st asked money from someone who comes first.

Sales on Craiglist are "first come first serve" unless stated otherwise. Someone else got their first, early bird gets the worm, etc.

The unusual part is that he had the courtesy to call you and tell you it was sold. The norm is that they don't, and you waste the trip.

EVERYONE says they will buy it when they call, but not all do. As a seller, he has to sell to the first person who shows up with cash and pays his asking price, rather than waiting for someone who called and said they would be by later, who may well be a no show.

I always told potential buyer who said "I will stop by tomorrow, next day... whatever time" that I will sell to the first person who show up with cash.

I sold a car a few years ago, and this lady got all pissed when I called her back and told her it is sold. I told her I am not holding that car for anyone. Too bad if someone offer me money first.

Craftsman jointer, Walker Turner shaper and table saw - $60

$20/item is a great price. It's all on the small side but would be great for someone living in the Bay Area with limited space.

Petaluma, CA

Delta Dp600? Dp220? - Make offer

I don't know his price but it looks like he doesn't either. If you can get it for around $100 I'd say you were doing very well.

This looks too good to be true, but all my scam tests came up negative. The ad is just poorly written enough to be true. Either way, I know it will be gone before I can get to it so I figured I'd share here. This is a $6500+ box.

Snap on classic 96 - $1000
In great shape I'm just need money to pay my child support before going to jail. Black and white like new. Box is at my job, Bobcat of Sacramento. My phone recently got shut of so please call and ask for Jesse Bell (# in ad.)

That is a GREAT deal. These seem to hover around $2k used. The phone number is the bobcat dealer so most likely legit. Could be stolen but I doubt it.

Free 8" Craftsman Table Saw - FREE

I really want to go pick this up right now but I don't think it would fit in my car. I'd need to drive my truck and I already have this exact saw...

Also found this:

Appears to be a 16"? band saw - $75

Not sure the brand or the size but it looks like a 16"er. Not sure if taiwan cloned the big ones too? Regardless a good deal for a large saw.

Not sure how many of you are into vintage drill presses but here's another interesting one.

Hayward, CA

Duro Drill Press - $100

No pictures so unknown condition.

Per his model number it should be similar to this one:

32649-A.jpg

http://vintagemachinery.org/photoindex/detail.aspx?id=32649

https://sfbay.craigslist.org/eby/for/d/drill-press/6403614905.html

And that little craftsman is now down to $40...

https://sfbay.craigslist.org/nby/tls/d/craftsman-drill-press/6396155155.html

I don't know if I need 10 drill presses but these are all extremely tempting to me at least.

When people tell me they want to come in the morning, tomorrow, the weekend, etc I tell them to call me when they're ready to come and I will give them my address at that time, but I'm not going to hold it for them if somebody else calls and wants to come now. I only give my address to one person at a time, and I give them a reasonable amount of additional time beyond their eta before I will give the address to somebody else.

I don't want multiple people showing up at the same time, and I don't want to waste people's time.

If it isn't a scam, this is the best one in a LONG time!

https://sfbay.craigslist.org/pen/tls/d/free-shop-tools/6406771946.html

That one is definitely worth checking out asap. Nice find, still under an hour from being posted; somebody go grab those.

That makes my posting quite feeble to yours:

The free deal shiftless posted that neither of us went to check out is definitely an anomaly.

However, I'm sure our market is similar to the East Coast. I think it's the guys in between that are the most screwed for deals.

I just found this one funny.

Santa Cruz, CA

Rigid Table Saw - Cost is a Burrito

Per EBAY prices this is a good deal also:

Man it seems like it's the majority of my posts in here. I'm sorry? Anyways here's another one that's pretty hot for the Bay Area market.

Not sure on the size.

Not entirely sure on the value but I'd probably buy it if I wasn't slammed at work.

Menlo Park, CA

Chas Parker Vise - $25

Still listed as I type this? Something's up, either that or Michael needs to get to Menlo Park, stat. Looks like a sturdy one and no cracks I can see. (Thank goodness I'm in SF and a bit too far to make the drive.)

Unfortunately, I have no money in the tool budget or the need for a smaller vise currently. If it was huge and cheap(ish) I'd be selling my organs as we speak.

Menlo Park is also almost directly between us. I believe that with the Friday commute you might even make better time than I would.:p

Another industrial clean out sale, this one in Napa CA. "Super Cheap or free" 15 pics

Macgee:
That Dewalt table saw is a good one if you need portability. I have used mine a lot.
They are at Home Depot now for $299 with the stand. So 200 with no tax is good but with no receipt...??? I would definitely open the box before opening my wallet. And so would you!

larryq and michael:
I sent that guy an email about the $25 Parker vise several days ago and never heard back.

Everybody:
Maybe I'm just paying closer attention, but it seems to me the deals are getting better and better! :)

You are correct, I thought they were normally around $400. Looks like that model number is specifically issued to Home Depot but still a good portable saw, they sell very quickly on CL in my region, even the swap meet mongers sell them for more. It's all a mute point as it looks like it has sold.
