about a year ago, i ordered a set of tekton double box end flex ratchets from amazon. they arrived, and as i was checking them over i found that one of the ends was jammed. i emailed their tech support, including all my information, and they UPS'd me out a replacement wrench that evening. i had it in two or three days.
gold standard. they just dealt with it.
a few years ago, i received a ratchet from ebay that wouldn't lock in either direction. it was sealed in a factory bag when i got it. apex didnt like that i had bought it off ebay, rather than an authorized seller, but sent me a ratchet repair kit for free.
silver standard. they whined about where i bought it, but provided the kit to repair it for free, without making me call back or talk to several people.
today, i received a SK 45174 3/8" ratchet, also from amazon. it arrived broken. the head is cracked radially around the selector dial, and a piece is missing. the piece is not in the bag, which to me implies that it happened somewhere before it was put in the bag at the factory.
i contacted SK about a replacement. at first, they told me i needed to return it to amazon. when i asked if that meant that since it was new, i needed to return it to the seller, but if it were a year old they would warranty it, they told me i could ship it back, but would have to pay for shipping.
so, my reward for buying a US made, more expensive tool is that the company tries to get out of dealing with it, telling me to return it to the seller. when i mention the warranty, they tell me i will have to pay for shipping to return it to them.

Why not just return it to Amazon? Their returns and CS is outstanding... just seems like making an issue out of nothing.
