Lyndon, sorry to hear about Irene's father passing. It was good that you and Irene shared a meal with him on your day out. I suspect that holidays and important milestones are stressors. My great-grandmother died on July 4th, my father died on Thanksgiving and my mother died on Mother's Day. Celebrate Pop's life and remind Irene of the good times the two of you had with him. Especially the times he asked you "What do you want to do that for?"

Bob. How are the Flexzilla hoses? Do they live up to advertising?

Stewart, I knew I owed you an answer but couldn't remember where you posted the question. I finally did one of those "Find more posts by shortykorte" searches.

I've had Flexzilla air hoses for a couple of years and they are the best I've ever used. Less experience with the water hoses but they work great as well. These are about twice the price of any hose I've ever owned so I am not sure they are that much better. I'm old and I'm learning to squander some of my money on fancy-schmantzy stuff. I don't think I'll live long enough to buy Lista cabinets or Snap-on tools but Harbor Freight is no longer my only source.

Places other than HF sell tools? Who knew?

Sorry to hear about your father-in-law mate.

As you know my grandparents came from the Ukraine as well, with a similar story to your in-laws.

That Facebook post brought a tear to my eye.

Thanks gents - appreciate it!

Things have been busy with Irene working on the computer nightly to get the pictures, music & service requirements sorted out. The funeral is next Monday, as Irene's brother had trouble getting on the boat out of Tasmania (school holidays finishing & all.....).

I'm giving the eulogy.......

Could be a busy weekend.

Re: Date Night - part 2

We caught the slower ferry home. This is the memorial to the Australian Battleship HMAS Sydney, lost during WWII with all hands :

Lyndon, did you know that the memorial is for all the HMAS Sydneys that have served.
The mast at Bradleys head is off the WW1 Sydney that defeated the German ship Emden at the Cocos Islands. The bow is on the rock works under the northern end of the bridge.
HMAS Sydney 2 was lost with all 645 men after a ferocious battle with the German ship Kormoran.
I had an uncle lost onboard that day off the WA coast.

A ****** nice harbour view isnt it?
I never tire of it.

As Tuesday draws to a close

Sounds like it may have been faster for him to fly. Still that trip would no doubt allow time for him to consider what is ahead. I have no doubt the eulogy will be good from you. May the coming weekend be all good and a great celebration of his life.

Edit: Lyndon. I hate to give you bad news but today is Wednesday and not Tuesday.

Thanks for looking in, and yep - that view never gets old, does it.

My paternal grandfather sailed on the Sydney during it's delivery trip from Europe to Australia in 1935..... Then he went to a range of other ships.

It's Wednesday already - you beauty!!!!

And unfortunately Irene's Brother's wife has an illness that makes flying almost impossible, so they have to come by land and sea.....

Lyndon
Now - where's that fridge?

Yes it is Wednesday.

As I said sounds like the trip not flying would be good for him.

Oh and when you find the fridge 'One' have one for me as I can not find the beer I like at present (Minimum Chips) and 'Two' medication has me off the drink.

So - the Eulogy is nearly writtten, the photo presentation is virtually complete, things are just about ready for Monday's service.

However, things haven't completely ground to a halt in the Lyndon garage.....

But oh my - things are getting out of hand.... :eyecrazy::

IMG_7006.JPG

I almost can't see my workbench....

1st up I've had some deliveries, the new wire and polishing wheels have arrived for the new (old) grinder :

IMG_7007.JPG

And some other random bits got here :

IMG_7008.JPG

And I always wanted one of these :

IMG_7009.JPG

That came with these :

IMG_7012.JPG

And finally - another job to go on the "To Do" list, is these window locks :

IMG_7010.JPG

IMG_7011.JPG

My oh my - the job/project list is getting so long!

More on that tomorrow - it's 11pm here now and I'm ready to crash!

Indeed, the man of wisdom said "the photo presentation is virtually complete".:willy_nil:willy_nil:willy_nil

Hope you didn't think you'd slip that one by. I laughed til I cried.

Giving the eulogy is such a great honor. Wish I could be there, sincerely.

And, I didn't see a work bench, are you sure it's still there? The lady on the fertilizer spreader box is smiling because she knows she only has to use it the one time.:lol_hitti I have one of those and like it, but it does take some training to get good at using it.

We'll be thinking of you as I know your desire is for a flawless eulogy.

Lyndon: i'm not one to go to funerals often or at all and i know i should have gone to several that I didn't now looking back at that. Again sorry for your loss, but sounds like your Father in law might have been your second father really after being married as long as you've been to his daughter. good to hear he went fast when he did at 91 I think you said cause when it's time that's how i'd like to check out. best of luck with the Eulogy and i'm guessing with your gift for words it will bring out many good times and lots of tears.

as far as your workbench I'm thinking you might have heard about mine cause yours is almost identical to about 5 of mine. some new stuff to open and put to use, some old stuff to repair and stuff you really just don't know where to put, but you don't want it just stuffed in a box to never be seen again either.

the new wheels on your old grinder will be great, but since you buffing wheel will throw off a lot of debris maybe into your motor you might want to add extensions to the arbor on that side. it also will help you get better access around your projects.

I use that fertilizer spreader about every 2 months, but currently only have about 700 feet of lawn to use it on. that said walking slow and being steady works good. it will gum up so a good cleaning every few months might be necessary especially since you lawn is so much bigger than mine is.

now where is the picture of that SILVERWARE DRAWER you posted last year?

A quick post from work, as I am the Australian person that is having problems accessing GJ at home, both through my computer, and Tapatalk (on wifi).

After hours on the phone last night to Telstra, and going to higher and higher up techs, it turns out that GJ may have white listed (whatever that means) my IP address. Ryan has proposed a fix that I'll have to try tonight (but that's very Catch 22 - because I can't get on at home..... :dunno:).

Anyway, and this is my 2nd attempt at posting this as my iPad just ate my first one, the Service for Irene's Dad was one of the most remarkable things I've ever witnessed. It was held at the Chapel at Rookwood Cemetary, but the service was conducted by a Ukrainian Catholic Priest, and another priest who sang the entire time. Fascinating! I gave the Eulogy, which went down a treat with everyone present. The MD and his wife from Irene and my work came, out of respect for Irene, and after the service the big boss was in tears outside. When we spoke to them he explained that as I was giving the Eulogy, and talking about Pop's 40 + years working for the Sydney Water Board, he realised he met Irene's Dad in 1967, and can even remember the conversation he had with him as a new apprentice for the Water Board himself (where his Dad worked)....... Talk about spooky! I don't think Steve worked there too long though - he is a genius, and entrepreneur. It would have been too slow for him. But they did meet, so he was very glad they came along. Pop started at the Water Board the month after arriving from Italy, in February 1950, aboard the USS RM General Blatchford (that made an enormous number of trips for about 5 years). And as Irene's parents were initially in a Displaced Persons camp in Bathurst, and then Cowra, he would catch the train into Sydney on Sunday night, stay the week at a friend's house, and then go home by train on a Friday night.

Pop was then buried in the same plot as Irene's Mum from 2010.

Anyway - got to do some work. Hopefully I can get GJ working at home again soon.

Lyndon: again sorry for your loss and I bet your father in law will be missed, but still whispering in your ear for many years to come. it brought a tear to my eye reading about Irene's boss' story because he remembered and for me thinking about all the old friends, clients and relatives that i can no longer see in person.

happy to hear you enjoyed the funeral or as much as one can enjoy something like that. also best of luck getting your internet and issues with GJ figured out cause we need more of your spirit and posts to keep improving the mood around here. oh and BTW don't let your FSD (flat surface disease) rival mine so start attacking that workbench soon.

cheers

Now where were we?

Thanks guys for the replies.

Yes - it was an amazing send off for Irene's Dad.

And yes - whatever Ryan did fixed the connectivity problems.

Now - where were we? So, my Falcon has had a problem for a few years. :dunno: About 5 years ago the front end of the Falcon was re-sprayed for some reason (lost in the mist of time, and Chemo). When the paint started to fall off over the last couple of years I despaired as to what to do :

IMG_7016.JPG

IMG_7013.JPG

Even the bonnet (hood) would lose paint every time a fly hit it :

IMG_7014.JPG

Then somebody reminded me that my insurer gives lifetime guarantees on repairs.......

So off to a body shop she went, and now she looks like this :

IMG_7017.JPG

IMG_7018.JPG

How good is that? No more sneaking up behind coal trucks for me - uh um..... a healthy distance I'll give them all!

Also, Drives, I cured my FSD problem by 1st, creating a "to-do" list :

IMG_7019.JPG

And then - just putting everything away. I decided that the clutter was part of the problem, so I just spent some time cleaning everything up, even if it means some of the tools need to come back out for the next job.... :

IMG_7021.JPG

IMG_7031.JPG

Oh - and why is that pot lid doing there you ask - well that was just the latest "honey do". Fixed that and moved on......

And also this week - one of my co-managers came back from a week at our quarry, and trawling through some old barns, to present me with these :

IMG_7022.JPG

The old braces will need a good picklin' in some Evaporust, or vinegar solution..... But the shorter, heavier of the levels already got the mud cleaned off it, the brass polished (who knows who F.R. Low Tools, made in Sydney is?) :

IMG_7028.JPG

And some BLO applied to keep it looking good for a while, until I can really attack it
:

IMG_7030.JPG

The 2nd level is missing quite a few bits, and may be a basket case.

I also recovered these from Irene's Dad's place to put to future use :

IMG_7025.JPG

So - this is where we sit at the end of play for this weekend (well - almost) :

IMG_7031.JPG

Today we (Irene and I) got the XJR out, and went via Rozelle (to pick up Irene's sister and BIL) to North Head at Manly for a great lunch and cruise. Gees that is one great car. Effortless on the freeways at enormous ("will you slow down") speeds, but docile as anything through the heavy northern beaches gridlock! I love that car! Should have taken pics, shouldn't I?

Right there is the basis for the clutter in my shop which prevents much of anything from getting done. I just hate to put away what I will need tomorrow. :willy_nil

Replacement level vials are not too dear. And you can calibrate during installation if you set up a good reference surface.

Andy

Do it - just do it! It is amazing how calming for the soul it is, just to clean up and then re-start.

It seems to help re-fresh every job.

(Not that I know)......

Lyndon, good thinking with the Falcon repair and that an Insurance company actually lived up to its warranty after all this time.

I just wonder how many people would actually remember that one.:dunno:

I find a To Do List is a must as it keeps me focused to some degree.
That's one thing I do at the end of the day in the work shop, every thing is cleaned an put away and its great to start the new day with a clean slate so to speak.

Great score on the tools..

Have a good one..
