HF 18" Side Cabinet No More??

Just got a HF catalog in the mail (prices good thru end of April.)

Looks like the HF 18" side cabinet #62661/68991 has been eliminated from the catalog completely. No pic and no part number. (This is that tall closet style side box)

What gives? Anyone hear anything about this?

Yes I know it still shows on the website, but as you can see the new catalog and the page with the usual tool chests/boxes it looks like they have deliberately eliminated the side cabinet.

First photo shows both catalogs. The Feb catalog is on the left and the new catalog (for Mar/Apr) is on the right.

In the close up photo of the new Mar/Apr ad you can clearly see that the ad's photo and typesetting of the Cabinet has been left out, including the (D) reference and description.

Somethings up.

I jsut ran into the same issue with the 26" red chest. The one location stated they had 0 and several others stores only had a handful. They said they are likely discontinuing it. The website also showed the item sporadically and only in store purchases. One day its ont he site, 3 days later nope, and 3 days later PN at the store doesnt work either (I took the tag off a display).

Would be silly discontinuing that .
The addons is one thing that improves the line of boxes .
Would actually be better expanding addons and to have depth match for the 56 and 72" boxes and doing all boxes in 3 colors even if 2 colors are order only and a surcharge .
Wonder if they going introduce new box lines much like menards has !

Yeh from a business perspective they really missing the potential on the boxes and more pro quality tool lines. If pulling addons with no upgrade plans it a step backwards !
Both boxes and Pitts Pro tools need expanding and it so simple as china manufacturer of boxes has huge range and taiwan handtools for the pitts pro range easily expanded/improved too so works better for serious DIY and budget pro users .

I was just looking at the menards boxes. Too bad they don't have a store out here in New Jersey. I'm looking at their new deeper green colored boxes on their website. Like to see them in person.

None here in Texas either, and I'm tempted to get the 41" box and pony up the $250 for truck freight. I know as soon as I do that, everyone will have a 24" deep box.

To be fair yukon was not best idea, best working with the existing us general brand and improving/expanding that over doing a new line .
Same with hand tools, why couldn't of put the new better quality pliers under the Pitts Pro brand I got no idea, that brand needs expanding and so easy do as taiwan manufacturing already so all they got do is brand it .
Power tools is a right mess too from too cheap to too expensive for spec/90 day warranty .
Likes of HD and menards gaining ground on boxes, even napa homak rs pro deal price competes ...

I wonder if this has anything to do with the recent class action lawsuit that resulted in big tariffs on certain imported toolboxes from China. HF (and other retailers) may be redesigning their toolbox lines to avoid the extra import costs that could triple the selling price.

yea that toolbox thing was BS. I'm not normally one to evangelize the overseas products, but toolboxes are way over priced. The US general boxes were keeping things somewhat honest unless you got a really premo box

The funny thing is, it just brought more competition to the pro market, not less. The "it's not deep enough" crowd now has another option in the Masterforce boxes that are now 24" deep. The 72" has full extension slides rated at 150lbs each. Currently under $1,500 that's going to hurt somebody's feelings. You can add a stainless steel top for $160.

Masterforce® 72" Tool Cabinet features a 24" depth for a larger work surface. Includes a patented Raise & Release™ drawer latching system with full extension 150 lb. ball-bearing drawer slides. The secure keyed locking system (includes 2 keys), hardened steel side handle, 6" heavy-duty casters and a long-lasting powder-coat finish makes this tool cabinet built to last. The power strip with USB access is great for charging your work tools, cell phones or tablets. This tool cabinet makes your tool storage more versatile and convenient. This 15-drawer tool cabinet includes 38,600 cubic inches of storage capacity and has a weight capacity of 3,000 lbs. It includes non-slip drawer liners to help keep your tools in place.

This 72" Roller Cabinet is more than 33% deeper than our smaller Masterforce Tool Storage giving you DEEPER & WIDER storage options.
Raise & Release™ secure latching system keeps drawers tightly closed and reduces risk of accidental opening. To release just lift the drawer pull to easily slide open.
Heavy-duty, full extension ball-bearing drawer slides hold up to 150 lbs. per drawer
Power strip with USB access for ease of charging your work tools, cell phones and tablets. Makes your tool storage more versatile and convenient.
Tubular lock system secures all drawers for safe tool storage
Hardened steel tubular side handle for easy maneuvering.
6" x 2" total lock casters prevent rolling

It stinks that Menard's is so regional. It is the most economical upgrade to the HF 44. I was going to get the top box for more space but I have begun to lust after deeper drawers.

Yep, most likely going to be discontinued. I've noticed with a few other products that say in store only on the website are soon gone forever...reason they say in store only is because the inventory is limited to what the stores have in stock.

Unfortunately this means I won't get the end cabinets for my 44" chest then. I don't have the money to get them right now and probably won't for a while.

Yeh really going pi55 a few people off who bought into it because of future expansion.
If don't sell well they should do them order only not discontinue .
One of reasons 44" popular besides price was the ease of matching expansion at similar low cost .
assume they may have new box range coming so anyone thinking of a box best waiting or looking at masterforce or homak rs pro until see where HF and US General going :-S

Well, the two stores close to me each had 3x of the side boxes today, so I went ahead and picked up one....still a pretty decent deal for $159.

Supposedly they'll be releasing the 42, 56, and 72 boxes, side units, and shelving unit in both the black and blue just like they did with the 5 drawer cart. At least this is what the manager at the Harbor Freight in my town told me. Said he got to see them during a symposium for new product they will be receiving down the road.

Menards, Home Depot, NAPA, and Northern Tool have boxes that compete with Harbor Freight.... Being that Stanley Black&Decker recently purchased Waterloo; It will be interesting to watch the competition over the next few years.

If you are looking for one in the Chicago area the Aurora IL RT-59 location still has the floor model, it's marked down, might still have a few in stock too, was in there today.

I bought one a few years ago and mounted it on wheels to park under my drill press. Rolls over the base and under the table. Great storage. If I had space, I'd probably add a couple more as a grinder stand and... ????

With a coupon, it's a good buy.

$10 says the "US GENERAL" name is getting a facelift when it comes to tool boxes..

Looks pretty much guaranteed .
Will be shame if removing some of old line so quick as those that bought into it due to affordable matching expansion going be pissed .

Take this with a grain of salt. I was talking to the store manager of my local Harbor Freight and she told me that they just got a memo from HQ Harbor Frieght and that they were to sell all existing stock of the 44" the 56"and the 72" and all add ons to the above mentioned boxes and when the parking lot sale is on to sell the display boxes as open box.

Sounds like a change is in the wind for the Harbor Freight toolbox line.

REMEMBER THAT TO TAKE THIS WITH A GRAIN OF SALT.

Well, talks of the line being changed/going out seems to be closer to truth.

Like I said earlier: I wanted the 26" box and took me 3 stores to locate one and it was open box and damaged. Cant order them online anymore either
