2018 Garage Sale Thread

Hit a consignment auction today and scored four lots for a total of $12 + tax. Highlights are pictured below.
A Craftsman #6666 corner clamp, a Pony 3325 edge clamp, hogring pliers, two Nicholson files, a Yankee screwdriver, a Master Mechanic USA hack saw, a small screwdriver, a Lisle brake caliper tool, a Pony Kerf Keeper, and a body grater with some of the label scratched off. I believe it reads Martin Seneca #282.
In addition to the pictured items, I got a metal card file box, a plastic bucket, a box of wood screws, two clevis, two old punches and a cold chisel, three old claw hammers, a ball pein hammer and a shingle hatchet. All of those need to be ID'ed, cleaned up and new handles.

Was out running errands and dropped by a local pawn shop. I found a nice tap wrench and base and asked the guy at the counter if he had any other hand tools or machinist tools.
He brought out 3 plastic tubs with the following goodies...... Part I

I took a deep breath and asked how much for all of it (including my original tap wrench). He started to look up the EDM tool blocks and stopped and said "100 bucks". All I can say is wow. I had to look up the gizmo in the case and found it is a wheel dresser for surface grinding. I'll divide up the stuff I got with my son and eBay off the rest. Adds some useful stuff to my collection and will help out the kid too.

First of all 3bay, my recent find is nowhere as nice as yours. For $2, YOU ****.

I actually have that same one as yours nos in the box as well. It has a wicked looking hook on the end for sticking in a tree, and it looks like yours just has the typical wire loop of these old winders?

Check the graduations on the tape. I have a Lufkin diamater tape that I use for measuring trees and it's graduations are very different from a regular measuring tape. It is measuring the circumference and converting it to diameter by a factor of 3.1416.\, and has one of those hooks on it.

Spot on. It's a 1940s-1950s Cramer drafting chair I bought last year for a song.

I'm no scholar on them either but was looking at that article closely yesterday trying to mark distinctive differences, between models.

The key mechanical/visible difference between the WI m16 and M18's, and WWII M35 are those "Lugs" which are vents. The earlier ones are noticeably taller, and the M35 is shorter; which led me to my conclusion of an M35.

I think the angle of my pic distorts the shape, and the shape differences are subtle enough that I think you would have to have known examples side by side to really see the diff for that.

Another mechanical difference to watch for is the rolled edge, as the late WWII model changes removed that rolled edge..

Hexen, It is a Daimalloy handyboy made in Duluth Ohio, It has the diamond tool company's logo on it. My guess is that might of been in a small tool kit.
It is standard size, It has an adjustable wrench on one of the handles, the other handle has a standard flat blade screw driver and then the pliers end also has a wire cutter on it.
The other is a 4-6in. Crescent wrench from James town N.Y.

Exactly; for light torquing on smaller screws. Probably lbs/in. Is it a 1/4 square drive or a Phillips head? The pic is blurry at the tip... Very cool! I want one!

It's not broke. The patent (2,394,022, granted June 1946, Storrie, assigned to APCO Mossberg), which can be read in full on the USPTO site, specifies a bore with a pin hole and pin for securing different screw engaging bits.

25 bucks at the flea market bought me a bunch of vintage 1/4 drive sockets, two pebbles, a wf plomb 5/16, Industro, durochrome, easco, and an unknown 1/4" ratchets. Plus a cool SK box to fill up.

In the early days of Snap On, Cornwell,etc., 5/8 drive was a part of automotive hand tools. I think it found its place in factory use (Apex and mainstream truck brands).

IMCA, your Millers Falls No. 62 ended production and switched to the 62A in 1937, so it's between 1926 and 1937.

No local sales today, which was actually a good thing as last night I hit a Craig's List ad for a Coleman 242B lantern, and that led to a Coleman 500A Stove ad from the same guy at a great deal.

I texted him with "sold, I'll PP you the $$ and Pick up tomorrow (an hour away). He said "just bring cash tomorrow"... Made me nervous (been skunked by "someone beat you to it" before...) BUT He honored it!

That got me close to another thing I wanted ten miles further out, and I made arrangements to get THAT this AM as well! So a double score in one 3 -1/2 hour round tip road trip!

The story on the stove and lantern was he found these in a fiberglass box under a house. He didn't know much about them and sold them...

So for a total of $45 at stop one I got:

The 242B Lantern (Aug? 1941) -and about and perfect as they come! Doesn't LOOK 77 years old!

The 500A stove 5-58 date stamp: so 59 years old. it had a fishing regs booklet from 1959 so was parked soon after it was purchased. For that time frame I'm thinking this was the guy's "emergency" gear in case of an atom bomb attack. (a very real concern in the late 50's!)

I'm only unhappy with this rust spot: if it went through...

The second stop was for this Aluminum military box - 30" X 19" X 18" and both covers convert to (two) tables as shown! 80's medical gear box. It has a vent that can be closed or opened for changes in altitude.

This is going to be a huge hit for camping! I LOVE multi use things for camping! cargo box; shelves in camp; and two tables? whats not to like? It will also sit just behind the drivers seat on my rig on end and not block my rear view mirror!

I had to play with the color on the pic so it was closer. Its a sort for sea foam green (blue?)

It wasn't cheap at $100, but you can get these from surplus outfits, and its anywhere from 150 to near 200 (not counting the dreamers..), so not a bad deal at all!

S-K Lectrolite 1950 Chevrolet Panel Truck by Ertl to be exact. Die cast cars typically don’t interest me but it jumped out at a stand that normally sells clothes and jewelry. I did the wtf double take.
Looks like someone threw a rock at the driver window, lol. Missing a screw on the bottom so it came home for only 50 cents.

Picked up this Challenger by Proto 1/4” set. $15. The spinner handle was MIA but I followed its chalky Xcelite-like stink trail goodness down the table to where it was.

Victory! I ended up with #4. I almost missed out, not noticing that a sign up sheet had been posted by the #1 & 2 guys (a rookie mistake). All three guys in front of me were there for the garage and proceeded me into the door at opening. My heart sank when #1 picked up the price tag on the Wilton vise but then leapt when he passed it by. My hand slapped down on it--the price tag showed a $40 asking price. It was a 9300, not a C1, but still...SOLD! I kept my hand on it while I got out my wrenches and started loosening the nuts.




After getting the Wilton of the bench, I cruised around the two car garage and picked up the following for another $20:

Well, I went back to yesterday's sale with SWMBO and another couple we're good friends with. I went just meaning to sweep up some hardware storage shelves and to see what was left at bargain prices.

The garage was pretty bare compared to opening morning, but I puttered through the debris field and found a few more goodies.

Here are the parts storage shelves I wanted. There was only one of three left. It holds 48 3"x4" bins, and I got the box with a bunch of extra bins. The garage guy said he got $25 each for the other two, but let me have this one for $10.



The cutting board is a 13" Photo Materials Enterprises old school item, marked at $20. He let me have it for $5. Everything else in the next several pics I got for another $5:

The clock is a 12-in Edwards 1888 (here's an equivalent new one) and two floodlights (after closer inspection, one may be dead).

My buddy got an '80's vintage Dremel tool and bits for $5.

After paying up for my treasures, I should have left. But, being friendly and conversational, I asked the sale guy if the big shop equipment had sold.

Sale Guy: "No, not yet."
Me: "I probably shouldn't ask, but...how much are you asking for the Delta 1.5hp Wood Shaper?"
Sale Guy: "This sold new for $900, and this guy paid $600 for it. You can have it for $75. I don't want to have to move it."
Me: "Well, okay, I'll take it."

I pulled out my wallet again and paid up.



Me: "That Delta 1.5hp Model 10 table saw is really nice too, but I already have a table saw."
Sale Guy: "Yeah, that's the problem: everyone already has one. You can have it for $30."
Me: "Well, okay, I'll take it."

I pulled out my wallet again.



Me: (to my buddy) "Good thing I just built that new garage!"

Fortunately, my buddy was there to help me load and unload. His wife and mine found their own treasures inside the house (SWMBO got a 1948 Singer Model 66 heavy duty sewing machine and stand for $50!).

All in all, an unexpectedly good day.

It wasn't an Estate Sale weekend for me this time, but Mrs No_Garage and I went Antiquing in and around Allentown PA today. At stop #1 she saw a clean 2 tube fluorescent desk lamp she wanted and I found a "tanker" chair. That was pretty much it for the day but we had fun.

The lamp is an Art Specialty Co lamp and the chair is a 1970 Emeco from Hanover PA. Hiding behind the chair is a tiger oak version of the same basic chair that needs some (ok - a lot) of love.

stopped into a habitat restore yesterday and they had really cleaned the place up since my last visit. But I found 2 old wrenches in a plastic bin. Found an early RAY pressed steel ratchet (I think I may have some of the sockets that go with it from looking at internet pics) and an old Billings and Spencer with USS markings. (the pic of the full RAY set is just to show the rest of what i am trying to find) I really like the old RAY logo!
