Love the progress.. and the Ford Gray.. Plus the classic Cummins C on the air intake "tower" just ahead of the air intake heater... Great to see this coming back to magical life.....
Thanks!
This was actually a non grid heater truck and remains as such currently as it doesn’t have plans to be run in cold weather

Interesting.. When I joined CMI in '91, that was one bit of "technology" the guys at the MidRange Tech Center said made our engine different than the others. I'll have to ask one of the old timers if they remember when it was added, etc.

It was an option on this ford chassis engine that this one wasn’t speced with. Actually have a grid heater off a freight liner of the era but choosed not to use it for cleaner/less wiring/ less to go wrong. Realistically won’t run below 40* and has a block heater if need be

Truck did a stomp around the yard in almost fully finished form. Needs temp gauge adjusted and fuel gauge wired, and some engine tuning, but roads wet and salty so it only saw backyard and field pulls in the snow

Next load of engines for future projects

Known good zf was kinda fawked, so this week I yanked it and tore it down and made my parts orders. Synchros, sliders, keys and 2nd gear on main shaft got replaced, now it shifts like a dream. I’ve had a few zf6 apart and must say they are easier to repair than the zf5 based on case design for loading the main shaft and countershaft with rails into the case half

Subscribed as I need to read this whole thread from the start. Hoping to pick up a 97 f250 ex cab long box, 460ed 2wd to convert to 12v 4wd with a 60 in the front.

Thing is damn near rust free so it’s a great start even if it’s white.

I've always liked that style of bumper as well. So much so in fact, that on my 1988 Ford F250 that I converted into a dually (yes I did own a Ford at one time but I don't want to talk about it). I fabricated my own rear bumper and fashioned it after the Westin line of tapered bumpers like that. In mine, I incorporated the 2" receiver tube into the bumper that tied into a framework under the bed and also cut in two slots for back up lights that were hooked to a toggle switch in the cab.

I loved that bumper, wish I would have kept it (truck not so much).

Like that style bumper, wish I could have kept the adjustable swinging spring hitch, byt the rear mount 40 gallon tank kinda was limiting so it’s just a shell with a
Class 3 receiver under it
Wanted a chrome one and the cost of making one from scratch and having it then chromed
Far outweighed a nice used one
Got pictures of yours?

Drove great all year, **** weather hit this weekend in Chicago so it got parked now for the year
No problems all year other than adding an air powered cummins exhaust brake at the end of the downpipe that i salvaged off an 8.3. Controlling it using high/low selector on the ten speed shifter handle

In a week or two once I get all three case skidsteers cleared from the shop with the pre snow plow preps it’s gettif out in the corner and stripped down off all accessories, mirrors, door panels, fenderwells, bumpers, lights and grill shell and then getting rollbacked to paint shop.

Well done sir! Have I seen your JD tractor somewhere else? I'm sure a lot of people on this site would find more info/details on the JD very interesting.

That's great that you have had no problems with it, sounds like you did it all right! :) What color are you going to paint it?

Same color, just redid with nice gaps
Need to get the skidsteers out on snow duty to clear some shop space

I finally dug out the F700, going to try and start working on it this winter. Need to tear off the rack, lift gate, and back body. I think I want to use or make a dually bed, also thinking of using MRAP axles.

Paint guy has been slacking but cost is way down due to trading work. Show quality straightness due back to me soon

Also have extra 24 valve if needed now

Very cool!

Always liked the 73-79 Trucks and have owned many but the 78-79's are my favorite.

So who says I need pictures of me making the 29 year old blonde reassemble her truck?
