Someone on GJ mentioned they'd seen a Green box also. I can't remember what thread it was on.

Any idea if that's true?

The post I saw like that was in regards to the 5 drawer cart. HF hasn't included green in any of their marketing where they advertise the same cart in black and blue, so I don't believe there was much truth to it.

I've been searching for an end locker all week. Finally found one today after going to 6 different stores. The store manager said they're discontinued. If you can find a store that still has a floor model, they will discount it 20%.

This link was posted on another thread were a similar discussion is taking place. Seems like it belongs here too. The redesigned 44" will now be 22" deep.

https://www.reddit.com/r/harborfreight/comments/7w2di5/new_44_box/

With a new depth of 22", are there any indications there will be a new 7 (or whatever) drawer side cabinet with the same depth? Would hate to rush to pick up the outgoing, current 18" for my 56" bottom box only to find later a new, deeper side cabinet is available.

We can only speculate until they make the official announcement, but it looks like they are either eliminating that product or replacing it with a deeper version to match the new 44" depth.

Supposedly they'll be releasing the 42, 56, and 72 boxes, side units, and shelving unit in both the black and blue just like they did with the 5 drawer cart. At least this is what the manager at the Harbor Freight in my town told me. Said he got to see them during a symposium for new product they will be receiving down the road.

I hope that's true. Ill be in the market for the 72" box soon to replace my 44" setup and Id love a blue one. I actually emailed them asking if there were plans to make it blue a few weeks ago and no one got back to me :/

HF 18" Side box - $150

This is the 18" side box that will hang off of a 44" or 56" roller. They were $300 without a coupon, all over the place down to $170 with a coupon. Been posted here that they are clearancing them out. I bought one Saturday for $150.

I'm sure that now that I finally bought one, they will be $99 in two weeks.

https://www.harborfreight.com/tool-storage/tool-chests-roller-cabinets.html

I notice the 44" roller and top boxes are now also "In Store Only".

If they knock them down, I can't help to think I will get another set of those and sell my 26" combo unit.

I do look back and see how far HF has come with these tool boxes in a short time. May not seem short to some, but it was only 5-6 years ago the biggest box they had was the 44" and it was that matte red, not very attractive.

Re: HF 18" Side box - $150

The standard price went to 149.99 before the clearance, clearance should get another 20% off that .
although if need one best grabbing it while can as new line will be 22" depth minimum thus not great/compatible for your current 18" boxes .

It was a sand or textured finish and beauty is in the eye of the beholder. I like mine. Kennedy boxes have been finished like that for eons. I think it looks richer than the gloss. The gloss is easier to wipe off grease or touch up and probably cheaper to make

I am usually the last to know about these changes...is there a link or thread that talks about the new line?

The new sizing is, as yet, unconfirmed.

There's a photo floating around of the new 44" box (biggest difference is that they're supposedly going to be offered in blue and black in addition of the normal red) in it's carton, and that carton shows that it has a 22" depth - however, it also displays the exact same cubic inch capacity as the existing 18" depth box, so one of those measurements are in error.

Nobody has posted a picture of the new box out of it's carton and ab actual measurement of the true depth.

some pics and discussion on another thread ...
all us general being updated, 44" looks to be going 22" deep if info genuine, what happening to 56 and 72 no idea yet but hopefully deeper and loosing awful plastic drawer catch and a slide upgrade, better liner all same across range would be good too .

relevant threads 1 2

I have been following this pretty closely as I was just about to start my 3 box Steevo bench when this news came out. Now it's on indefinite hold until all this bs gets sorted out. And I mean JUST about, as in I was reading and literally changed my plans for the whole day as a result.

Re: HF 18" Side box - $150

Staff member at my local HF confirms the 44" x 22" box as he seen details on that, I waiting here what doing 56 and 72" and if having any other sizes or expanding addons to hutch option etc .
HF bit slow really as if had taken user notice and potential buyer opinions on the boxes they could of updated them a year ago and been way ahead in retail market on affordable boxes .

Re: HF 18" Side box - $150

I went ahead and bought a side box last weekend. I'd been on the fence and knew I wouldn't be able to buy one later since the box depth is getting changed. At $150 it's a good deal. Might buy another if I see one on clearance.

These make nice little confined space rollers, if you have a need as I did.

Mine is a different brand i picked up scratch and dent. This works well for what I needed here.

Re: HF 18" Side box - $150

So the 18" version claims 14,200 cu of storage but the 22" version says 14,000 cu. What gives?

Anyone wanna bet the same 18" version drawers will be in the 22" ??

18" claims 14,200 cu of storage, the 22" claims OVER 14,000 cu of storage. It doesnt give an exact number, just that its more that 14,000. Interesting marketing approach to not let the consumer know exactly how it compares!

it about 50lbs heavier and has bit more weight capacity, main thing with deeper drawers is better tool layout .

Well I'd say that is a stupid approach since the 22" deep box is likely to have more than 17,000 cu in of storage. Why short yourself and potentially send a customer to the competition?

Re: HF 18" Side box - $150

Food for thought,

The new designed box could have the old drawers in them until supply runs out. Once the drawer supply runs out, the new deeper drawers could be used. Doing this, they cover their *** with over 14K Cu In of storage and use up old stock.

Once the new deeper 44" box is in production, if the only difference is the depth, it's all win for HF. People buy new boxes because they more storage. If the side drawers are the same size as the 56/72" versions, less production costs as they would be interchangeable.

A new deeper side box will fit the 44/56/72 flush.

The same with a smaller 44 top box on a larger 56/72 bottom box, with no setback.

A side cabinet would fit all models also.

:dunno: all just my speculation, but why not ? Want a smaller box, you buy a Yukon box they just introduced.

Fully agreed, I see no logic behind it.:dunno:

They are refreshing their entire toolbox line. All the boxes are supposed to be available in all 3 colors eventually. They also, at one point for a very short time, had stainless steel boxes posted. (for hours)

Also, there is tons of new Yukon stuff in design/production. It looks like they are going to make Yukon a garage cabinet system, wall cabinets, 48x72" double door cabinets, stainless steel tops, etc....

They may be discontinuing the side boxes as they likely don't sell many at all or switching them to an order only item. It appears they are going to have to do some major moving around of stuff to showcase all of these new storage items in stores.

Rumor I also heard was they weren't expecting to stock all the boxes in every color at every store, but were going to be able to submit custom orders to be delivered to the store with about a week lead time.

Looks like the normal prices dropped on the 44" roller and the 18" 7-drawer side cabinet, to $349 and $149, unless that's the parking lot sale prices.

Now I'm in a pickle. Do I get the 18" 7-drawer to add on to my 5-drawer cart, or sell the cart and get a 44" box?

349 is normal coupon price, if it clearance I like see it at 299 .
Maybe wait for introduction coupon price on the 22" deep 44" or grab a 7 drawer while can as will sell on easily used once discontinued if decide upgrade once see other options .

I've already got the cart loaded up to the point where I don't like moving it around anyway, maybe the 7-drawer end cabinet is a good choice for now.

Two threads merged together reference the HF side boxes.

I saw none at the Ontario (Mansfield) Ohio store.

What I did see is the 44" box on sale for $349 and it references it as a 22" deep.
