I picked this up today via CL - Leigh TD-514-L 24" dovetail jig. It was produced in the early '80s. I did not know until I saw it today that it came with 3 Leigh dovetail router bits. Everything appears to have had minmal use and to have been well taken care of all these years. Bought it from a friend of the original owner. Set me back $50 for everything.

Swing: Heal fast! Burns ****! keep ointments on personally, for burns, I like:
  1. Vitamin E oil, (directly on the burn assuming its not an open wound)
  2. Aquaphor (Same caution above)
  3. neosporin.

I've blistered my shin with superheated radiator water about 8" X 3-4, and it healed without a scar with Vitamin E

Was the powder in a measure, or something like a trickler? Note to self: keep the wood top loading bench!

Here's my $5 find at an estate sale today.
It was buried in a box of Chinese ¾" drive set marked for $75.
I asked if they'd do the ½" breaker bar separate. Fortunately the older fellow stated "well, it isn't much good in a ¾" set".

Pickup on Wednesday at a local secondhand shop close to the house, for $30 could not pass it up, it is missing a few pieces. Ratchet works great.
I needed a small socket set for inside house repairs. I hate having to go outside, unlock the toolbox, find the size I need then go back in the house, then repeat.

TEX: is that the Columbian vise you were asking about? looks like you did very well and the vise also looks like it's AUTOGRAPHED so you better leave it as is and just mount it and use it unless it's going on a shelf.

Swing: hope you heal up quick, but while you are all bandaged up you might get some sympathy at the garage and estate sales so get out and keep finding some more cool stuff.

Went back to a garage sale with an invite from the owner who is clearing stuff out to move. Found a near new Proto 3/8 socket set and a mystery bucket. Protos look like they were used once or twice. Mystery bucket had a visible Snap-on wrench and a Chinese ratchet and a lot of screws and fittings. Got it home and dug out a good handful of assorted sockets, wrenches and ratchets from Craftsman, SK, Thorsen, Mac, a few more Snap-on and some decent Japanese and Taiwanese assorted items and a USA made file. All in for 30 bucks.

This was a weird haul.

The wooden GI Joe box (1964) and the WEN Model 100K4 Soldering Gun kit (1970) are outside my niche, but my nostalgia bone was tingling! The GI Joe box is empty, but it has the original paperwork and a perfect label under the lid. The soldering iron set also has the original paperwork - including a packing slip, and is fairly complete.

The zippered leatherette case on top of the GI Joe box has a 110/220V 300W immersion heater (coil type) in it. Marked "Western Germany", which is strange. I'm thinking maybe a late 40's thing.

Off to the right of the GI Joe box is a wooden Decimal Equivalents chart from the American Machinist. Verbatim: "To any live man interested in making machinery of."

Below that are two Snap-On midget drive spinners, a TM-40 stubbie with a 1954 date code, and a PAR-X UP4.

I picked up the 6" slip-joints on a total lark. They have a unique (at least I've never seen it before) and funny marking.

The DOE wrenches next to the pliers are all keepers. WWII Billings Vitalloy M1723 and Williams 1028-S Superrench Jeep or GMTK wrenches, and a Blue-Points Chicago No. 1214 (3/8 x 7/16).

That metal Giller Tool Corp case hinges on the short side and has a complete midget drive set in it.

The little red oiler is a gunsmith's oiler. Marked 'England Valvespout' and 'The Leakproof Dispenser', but it seems to have been made in the US by The Continental Arms Corp NY.

The so-called "perfect handle" screwdrivers are both 11". An ink-stamped IRWIN (WWII Jeep kit) and a Lenox (marked on the shank).

The babbitt scraper is a Crescent Mfg Co, but not the famous Crescent. Cool logo.

Stanley bevel

WWII Jeep spark plug socket with a 41-W-3335-30 FSN.

I'll post some close-ups later

I got a txt from a guy I know asking if I was interested an old Coleman Cooler. I don't collect the old coolers jugs and the like at all. So I voice texted, "How old? Probably not but possibly.

After some back and forth, and a pic I asked how big it was as it looked small.

18 X 11 x 13.

Hmmm, never seen one that small, so I arranged to come look after work yesterday.

So for five bucks I came home with this. Its far from perfect, but there are no cracks in the plastic liner, the drain is not busted, the latch works. and its so small its cool!

SWMBO asked me where I would store a cooler, I said in was small. Now she wants to keep it for when we have company and need to ice their drinks...

I'm guessing the hooks inside are for a wire rack for over the Block Ice, in use in 1954...

I'll "buff out" the paint, look into removing the rust inside and see where it lands...

Best of all this could be the beginning of a good source for scores of all classes, especially tools...

Estate sale this morning in New Jersey. A bit of a drive but they had a Snap-on ratcheting screwdriver and a Crowsfoot set hanging on the wall in the pics. Was #2 in the door, the ratcheting screwdriver was gone ... I suspect the e-sale guy in the garage scarfed it for himself. The Crowsfoot set was tagged at $175... I laughed and the e-sale guy says "look em up!" Told him good luck with that.

Managed to root out this set of Snap-on 1/4dr hex sockets, Proto Professional 3/8dr & two 1/4dr's, 1/4dr SK, Snap-on mini cutters, assorted Starrett new in their boxes and what I beleve are a a box of Cleco's.

Rick, how long before I have to buy some of those? I might actually be interested in the Clecos.

I had just finished up charging and seating. I tend to combine steps since that’s just how my brain works. Lucky the loaded rounds weren’t nearby or they mighta cooked off too.

Sent from my iPhone using Tapatalk

I asked the same thing, wondering how much powder actually burned off to flash his face like that.

I saw that, but my Q is still relevant as there are many changing systems these days, and he didn't indicate what went off, just that the loaded rounds didn't.

That was why I asked about tricklers and powder measures. Heck, some trickling systems feed a scale and stop when "full".

The set was probably from 1968 too. A lot of people don’t account for that, they just see $$$, like the Ebay sellers who think every old Snap On ratchet is worth the round number of 50 or 100 dollars. :dunno:

Nice haul regardless.

Nice looking hauls guys!

Damon- I have a question too.:), what make is the little 4 way offset screwdriver in your third picture? That old Wright socket is different looking too.

Since I asked about measuring and trickling and he said it happened when he was finished charging and seating, I figured he was passed all that and any loose powder containers all put away. But you're right, that doesn't explain what cooked off or how much.

Drives,
That is the Colimbian vise! It will be a user! It looks to be in great shape. Jaws have no damage at all. Swivels, opens and closes very smoothly.

Old guy's grown children were helping with the sale. Three daughters there with some husbands. It was them I'd talked about the vise and agreed on a price. I couldn't get the money in their hands quick enough. They suggested I could leave it attached to the bench and move it after I was done going thru the sale but I said that's okay. Got a wrench out of my car and started removing the vise. Good thing I did because I had asked what they wanted for a big grinder there. They called their dad out to ask him and he let them know he wanted to keep that for now. Than over my shoulder I could hear him saying about the vise was his third hand. I got a sinking feeling but his next comment was "he's already taking it off so go ahead"....RELIEF!!! He walked over and starting chatting as I'm finishing removing it. "These are like a third hand you know?", he said. I replied "Yes they are." He then offered, "you can use these as an anvil too.". I just let it go. By then I was ready to carry "my new vise" to the car and see what else was there for me to buy.

Thanks for the info on pricing. Let me be a bit more comfortable going to look at it.

We found an estate sale in Oakland this morning that produced a few treasures and the prices were good. The first picture is the entire haul. There was an almost complete latewar 1/4" drive Plomb set missing the box. The next two pictures are what looks to be an unused pinstriping set in the box. There were three Plomb Wright Field tools and a 1945 marked canteen holder. The last picture is the Craftsman tools.

Those hook spanner sockets in the top right of pic 1 look interesting. Any brand marking on them?

I had never seen those before so I grabbed them. I couldn't find any manufacturer marked just part numbers and the range of travel of each spanner.
Here are some more pictures.
I also want to know what the thread's host is doing with my wife's matchbox on his new GI Joe toy box?

Those part numbers are Army-Navy numbers, Don, established in 1942 to standardize parts and tools that were common to US Army Air Forces and US Navy aircraft. They were expanded over the years to all kinds of military equipment. Hook spanner crow's feet. Pretty cool.

You guys are bad influences! I hit 3 garage/estate sales today. Here's what I got at the last two.

First two pics, is the estate sale I hit late this morning. One of those take a number, limited entry. While waiting in line it was fun listening to the pickers talking with each other. Didn't find much there for my interests (tools, woodworking) but got some recipe boxes that hopefully either my sister or our daughter will appreciate. The larger one looks like it was re-purposed from previously being used in an office? Anyone recognize the label on front and the slot with a rod in the bottom of the box?

Remaining pics from the last garage sale, not much of interest but a level and he threw in the Stillson (or is it Walworth?) pipe wrench. Smallest one I've ever seen at just over 6".

Can anyone tell me about the level. It's got pretty bad damage and almost looks like someone tried to repair it. Brass holding the main bubble vial is stamped H.M. Pool Easton, Mass. Both ends have "Cookson" stamped into the wood. Previous owner? I've never seen one like it before but I'm guessing they're pretty common in the NE. Any info would be appreciated. Off to see what Google can tell me.

Mike

Duh! I should have remembered that. I was careful not to mess with them much because of the cad plating. Look like perfect candidates for the NAF box.

If anyone is interested in seeing some of the other tools...

I posted the gun luber in the 'Show your oilers' thread, linked here.

I posted the Snap-On midget spinners and Blue-Points wrench in the 'Show your Snap-on' thread, linked here.

I posted the Crescent Mfg Co Babbitt bearing scraper in a thread woody started a few years ago about bearing scrapers, linked here.

And finally, I posted the Giller Tool Corp midget set in the 'Show your Thorsen' thread, linked here.

Damon, what brand is the body hammer? Looks cool!

I cleaned it up a little and it says PEXTO Made In USA.

It's exactly 4 inches between the two faces.

Seems kind of delicate for body work if that is what it's for.

I think you touched on the one remaining brand whose resale value had not yet been inflated by GJ discussion. The last pair of those sold on everbody’s favorite auction site recently for...are you ready for this...$0.06.

https://www.ebay.com/itm/vintage-your-money-039-s-worth-pliers-slip-joint-old-tool-/302625837690?hash=item4675e7d27a%3Ag%3AyOYAAOSwRJ1Zozma&nma=true&si=aBLeNkZAgwj8MjGMI2Z%252B1JHU%252F4E%253D&orig_cvip=true&rt=nc&_trksid=p2047675.l2557

Out of curiosity I was just looking to see if there were other tools under that name, and there are.
