Nice grab Don.

I just picked these up off the internet today

They will go well with the others I have on display in the party garage
Don,
Those are works of art and will make a great display. Your Whitman & Barnes index reminded me that I have a Huot index with a Whitman & Barnes label that I took a photo of with my W&B monkey wrenches.

Good grief, now I must have one. Are these Morse twists practical and functional? Are they easily serviced?

Looks like most of my hosted images went "****". Here's a repost:

Dave, from a practicality standpoint, I like the round one with both fractional and numbered sets. from a aesthetic standpoint I think I like the DT and Diamond shaped Cleveland.

Don, nice finds!

Outlaw, I agree. I have another one of those round carousel indexes fully populated with number and fraction drill bits. It's nothing fancy but it sure is convenient to use. I don't know if you can even buy them new anymore.

You people are slacking when it comes to posting your indices. This thread took some searching to find. My wife pointed out this Cleveland Twist Drill Co index at an estate sale yesterday and it ended up coming home with us. One of the holes was corroded and when I cleaned it up, it appeared that the index is copper!

Love it Don! One or two more like that might get you a wartime Duro 1/4" drive set......[emoji28]

Here is one that I have. The back right leg is broken but it only cost a couple of dollars at an estate sale.

I went through my box of sharpened bits and started filling up the index this afternoon. I still have a few to find.

You fellows have a fantastic array of Indices. Some are more like pieces of art than a tool. I have a couple that were given to me by my Grandfather that were used in a man killer John Oster drill.
The Radnor that is made in the USA is kind of cool as it still has the grease pencil price on it for $13.50 for 29 pieces. It is kind of amusing that it mentions its a drill set. The smaller one was made in W. Germany.

After seeing all the cool ones in this thread, I'm almost ashamed to post the few that I have.

I finally got around to cleaning and sharpening the bits of my recent rusty estate sale find. The set is Italian but marked with a US patent number. Probably 80% of the bits are original to the set.

It's not anything super fancy, but I got it for $1 and started off my hobby of restoring old tools:

That looks great. The Craftsman index I found at an estate sale is still in the before category. At least it had most of the original Craftsman bits.
I also found a smaller version of the style that I have several of.

Here's a couple of mine....Ok the index holding the Morse taper set isn't really vintage but the drills sure are. Also a couple loaded Cleveland indexes, I have the fractional and numbers set but haven't yet found the letter one. Also a tiny little Huot nearly dwarfed in the tall timber...too damn cute to not pick up. Ed.

Here is another index that's kind of different. Held very small burs. Wish it was still full but I think a lot of the Dremel sized stones and burs will fit fine. It rotates in it's case but is missing the nickel plated cover. Ed.

Thanks Outlaw, I think these may have been for dental work and even though they say engine burs. That's what a quick internet search seems to indicate anyway. Maybe because they were turned by a power source? I can almost smell those damn things grinding away every time I think about the trips to the dentist as a kid. Anyway there's plenty of uses for small burs other than torture so they should be useful in the shop too. :) Ed.

Just picked up this neat AJAX folding index, very cool. Looks like TWERTSY grabbed one also. This one came with a full Morse set (missing 1), and only the small ones look used. Got a small numbered set as well, not as complete.

I have one of the folding triangular type, only its steel and by Morse. Also have a couple box indexes like Twertsy's general.

A new addition and IMHO the coolest I've come across so far. Solid brass/blackend with certain parts of the index polished along with the main lettering.

Some of these drill bit manufacturers appeared to go to great lengths making very attractive indices. I guess they got bored with making bits.

Here's a couple more Standards. The bottom one is heavier and has Patent Applied For on the bottom.

Those Standard indexes are really nice and that's a really good find Fowdarr. I saw crguys indexes including the Standards and was duly impressed. A very nice collection. Ed.
