I then hook an inductive ammeter around the 10/3 extension cord and make a cut. Will the ammeter readings be the same, or different?

Thank you I appreciate your answer. I'm trying to get the saw to run as cool as possible. It's one of the last USA made saws.
If you put the ammeter around the entire cord you will always read zero amps.
The current on the neutral cancels out the magnetic field created by the hot
You need to clamp just one of the conductors
