Say I have two identical SKIL worm drive circular saws. Both have 13 Amp motors. One hooked up to a 12/3 50 ft extension cord and the other hooked up to a 10/3 50 ft extension cord. I hook an inductive ammeter around the 12/3 extension cord and make a cut. I then hook an inductive ammeter around the 10/3 extension cord and make a cut. Will the ammeter readings be the same, or different?

Same, now use a 16 gauge cord and maybe you'll see something. 12 gauge is more than adequate for 13 amps.

Thank you I appreciate your answer. I'm trying to get the saw to run as cool as possible. It's one of the last USA made saws.

If you put the ammeter around the entire cord you will always read zero amps.

The current on the neutral cancels out the magnetic field created by the hot

You need to clamp just one of the conductors

Voltage drop over 50 foot for just 13 amps is negligible. 12 gauge is fine, even a cheap 14 gauge cord is fine.
