Talking about pliers, here are a two odd ones I've picked up. The little ones are Vacuum Grip No. 4 and I haven't found any mention of them, the other ones are marked Snap-On and have a really weird set of cutters in them.

I'm not much of a Snap-On collector, but I picked up a few tools this weekend that were too cheap to pass up.

Animpact driver, drag link socket and ignition wrench that came in a 5 dollar toolbox lot...
IMG_2355.JPG

And the cleanest pair of vacuum grips I've ever seen. Looks almost unused.

ShadowRuleZ/Jerry - I think the weird SO cutters are for small wires like telephone work. I have a similar pair cobranded UTICA / Bell Telephone. The Utica catalog calls these “insulation skinning” pliers. The one on left is Klein (tip was broken so I shortened them a little), the one on right is Utica. Both cobranded Bell Systems. Neither has a cutter, but there are often paired with- and with-out cutter options with pliers.
The ones with cutters are called “electronics” and “ignition” pliers in the Utica catalog.
Your “No4” doesn't look different from a No5 Midget Ignition Pliers.

No. 4s are small standard pattern slip joint pliers

That's not what's in the picture. Maybe they reused "No4" for slip joints later?
The No5 is listed as 4-½". They look 4-½" long in the pic, so maybe they are actually stamped with the wrong model number?

Anyone have any information on these? Just purchased an older Snap-on box and these were attached. I have never seen anything like it.

Hi all, just wanted to show you guys this tool. As far as I know it was used to lap cylinder head valves that had a slot in the face. Anyone have others to show?

I have the Zim also. We bought them over SO as the SO had a cast iron case which would break if dropped and the Zim was stamped steel.

Here is an old 31/32” 5/8” drive 6 point socket I found at an estate sale yesterday. The date marking is in the second picture. I posted this on the garage sale thread but thought that it belonged here too.

They were all made between 1932 and 1941. As I said, I don't have one, and I can't see your markings close enough, but it may have a date code. Not everything did, but most things did. Look for a single digit.

I never see CRAFTSMAN C- series tools. I think this - C-20 1/2-inch square drive socket with a 5/8" service opening - is only the second piece I have ever found. Consequently, I haven't studied it. Alloy Artifacts attributes it to Snap-on. AA and Lauvin GJ/GG timeline seem to agree on 1932 to 1936. I can't find an attribution on the Tool Archives, but I remember Todd was diving into it pretty heavy last summer. I can't remember if he had an alternate OEM conclusion or the same. My other socket is chrome-plated as I recall. Oddly, this one looks cadmium-plated to me. See how gray and thin it is with the steel showing through on edges and elsewhere? I may be mistaken, but I don't recall CRAFTSMAN C- series being discussed here before.

Apparently Don didn't believe me when I told him the same thing on the 2018 Garage Sale thread, Otg. Hhmmph. I guess I know where I stand on his trustworthiness scale! :)

I didn’t doubt you at all. I just read somewhere that two heads are better than one. Oh yeah, it was you that said it.:lol_hitti

Snapmom, yours looks even older than mine and in better condition too. Real nice! Private Lugs, thanks for your information but I couldn’t see any numbers on it. It says Blue Point, Snap on Kenosha, Wisconsin. Usa . Is it possible that it wasn’t marked. Thanks again guys.

Thanks again!! I was with my Dad when he bought it. He recognised what it was right away. Me, on the other hand, had no idea and neither did the seller! I have never used it, so it lives with my other old automobilia and tools. Thanks again.

I do like to collect pullers. One is a CJ66 from about 1960, had to piece together a spring for it, the slide hammer is a No. 66 from about 1940.

Those came out well. Is that some bluing applied? You know how to make things nice without doing them in. Sorry, I found myself ranting about restorations earlier, and that’s coming from a guy who does minimal dirt and rust removal.

Yes, you guessed it......I removed the light rust from the industrial finished one and then washed it with soap (Dawn) and water......then I cold blued it (it took the bluing beautifully) then because the bluing will quickly re-rust, I coated the whole ratchet with tung oil (wiping varnish)
This ratchet is in excellent condition for a 66 yr old tool.....

The chrome one was in rougher shape with a lot of rust and pitting on the handle....but I ground and polished everything I could (blued some also) then washed it down with soap and water too.....after it dried, I wiped it all down with acetone and then tung oiled it.
Other than the pitting, this ratchet is in perfect functioning condition for a 66 yr old tool.....

To revisit a recent topic about vacuum grip pliers with smooth handles I found two small tools marked vacuum grip in my plier drawer. One was a small pair of pliers from ‘53 with a single row, the other was a small pair of dykes from ‘58 with smooth handles.

With the addition of the 1944 3/16” socket I found on eBay, I’m only a wartime TM-2 short extension away from completing my 1/4” drive set. Most of the tools are from 1944, the first year that the 1/4” sets were available, although a couple of ‘45s have snuck in.
