I need to create and electrical panel for my milling machine. This will mount on the machine on the back or side and will supply power to dro, powerfeeds, light. I want to have a switch and was thinking that having a simple on and off selector switch mounted near the mill’s fwd/off/rev switch would make sense. I’d like the box to be small.

Holy **** is finding a simple switch not at all simple. You have pushbutton, rocker, cam, selector.

Has anyone sourced a simple 120v selector switch with an enclosure?
I found this switch and an enclosure

I am assuming for now that this is good for 120v and not a low volt switch. I will call Zoro on Monday.

This cam switch looks like it would work but can’t an enclosure for it.

Another option is to drill a 22mm hole in the metal enclosure that will house the 120v outlets and just bend over or around the machine to turn on all the 120v goodies.

Any help is greatly appreciated. Thanks

Note that the links you posted are for the switch or pushbutton mechanism only, they don't include the electrical contact block which you have to buy separately. When you do that you have a choice of contact ratings.

Why not just a standard electrical light switch mounted in a small metal wall box ? The items you are talking about don't draw that much current.

If you want to go fancy get something like this :

https://www.aliexpress.com/item/Rec...h-Button-Switch-AC-380V-3-7Kw/1966040928.html

Not sure of the quality for $5 though.

Thanks for the input.

I’m mounting 3 duplex 120v outlets in a metal enclosure to keep everything protected from spray and grinding dust. A small selector switch near the mill on/off would be ideal. Of course I can cut an opening in the enclosure for a switch but that is just more work. The aliexpress is questionable in my mind.

Found this switch that is a replacement for a Jet 120v belt grinder.

I would suggest this switch, as it is is a complete assembly ( Selector, Mounting Collar and 1 - Normally Open Contact) I believe these are rated 10A@600V, so you will not have a problem using it on 120V.

It will fit in the enclosure you originally picked out.

Thanks go kart! It’s not obvious from the Zoro descriptions that you need a contact block.

Imo the gold standard is an Allen Bradley 800T series 30mm selector switch.

I would check ebay for good-used. There are a number of different models, so its good to check out the literature to make sure you are getting what you want. Some are spring-return, some have more than 2 positions, etc.

Al Bradley also makes a 1TZ and 2TZ cast aluminum box which can mount either 1- or 2- pcs of the 30mm switch. For run-stop, selector, can be an indicator light, etc. Any of their 30mm products will fit.

As always, Al Bradley is NOT cheap, but also its not cheap...it lasts a longgg time. That's why I say look for good-used. Even already-used regularly in a factory, many will outlive all of us present on the message board currently, when used in a home-shop.
