Clearances around panel question

Laying out a sub for the back of my shop (easier to pull 1 run) and deciding where to place it. I know I need 30" clearance 36" deep, bUT how does this apply to doors? I assume the cannot be in the space?

Options as you walk in the room:

A) the wall on the left, which would be behind the open door (assuming I install a hinged door)

B) the wall (that the door is on), 20" or so to the right of the door. This gets blocked if I do a sliding door.

I have been leaning towards a normal door, so I don't loose the wall space with a barn door. But if the panel needs to go on this wall I loose almost the same amount of space.

Just checking I understand correctly before making my choice.

I don't know this plays out in your instance, but the width measurement is taken from either side of the panel and can include the panel itself

Maybe I'm picturing your description wrong, but my understanding is a 30 wide by 36 deep "box" where the only thing inside it is the panel. There's no left/right requirements (I'd center it).

Only question is if I open the door and the panel is behind it, am I in violation? I think so

You don't need to measure from the center.
The 30" workspace includes the panel's width, and can be taken off of either side of the panel
There is no left or right side requirement

Locating the panel so it's behind an opened door is allowed by the Code. It's actually a good idea in many cases, since it's a space that's not going to get cluttered up with stuff piled in front of the panel.

The corner is odd/useless anyway due to the standpipe, so if going to set my 30" just off that and it will all be out of the way and not cost me any additional wall space.
