Thank you @Hexen! Whoa... I do not realize it is that old. These will be a good reading here - I threw my back yesterday, so I am not really mobile at the moment.

I've been going to my local ReStore for years, as well as the one that was in the town I used to live in. I've found some really good deals over the years, including the $35 Ariens ST824 snowblower I used all last winter, the dump cart ($45) and thatcher attachment ($50) for my riding mower, all sorts of hand tools (usually $1 - $3 apiece), $15 wire shelving setup for my wife's pantry closet, and the list can go on from there...I find something almost every time I go.

Most of what my local ReStore sells is furniture and cabinets...not too many tools. Happened across a wood lathe ($56) a while back, but it was an off-brand I had never heard of (Cal-Hawk, I think). Did not get that because I would have spent way too much getting it to run the way I wanted, and parts seemed hard to find online (at least in the brief searches I did on my phone at the time).

They had a tool chest there a couple weeks ago, and, though I didn't need the chest, I rummaged through the drawers to see if anything was left. I didn't need the chest.

After I looked in the back of the last drawer, I stumbled across these...

They didn't realize these were in the chest, and only charged me $5 for the lot. Some of the calipers need some cleaning up, but the one in the case with the deteriorated lining is a Mitutoyo, apparently. Don't know much about calipers and the like, but I thought they might come in handy for when I work on small engines.

The other day was DOE day at the Restore. I got a Williams Superrench 7/16 combo and the following DOE's: Plomb 5/16x3/8, Herbrand 3/8x7/16, Wizard 11/32x3/8, and Caterpillar (Billings) 7/16x1/2. $1.00 total.

In addition to these wrenches, in recent trips to the Restore I found a new-in-box 1/2" NPT air regulator (ARO brand), a small screwdriver, a Barcalo 5/8x3/4 DBE, and a SK 3/4 deep 1/2 drive socket with the cross hole. $7.00 total.

Sweet. Every once in a while I have to remind myself that the ReStore is good for more than just tool deals. I like the push button switches.
Heh, I have never seen any kind of tool at our local ReStore. Sometimes there's some used consumables, sawblades & bits and stuff, but I've not seen an actual tool. It's only ever had leftover building supplies like windows, doors, lighting, countertops, vanities, etc.

This thread always makes me so jealous.

My ReStore sells mostly cabinets and used household items like kitchen bowls, utensils, lighting and furniture. The tool section goes through it's good times and bad. I'm becoming a tool snob. No sense in buying them just because it's a good deal and I don't have one. Now I will only purchase if I have a definite need for it.:lol_hitti
Does this mean that I'm managing my "disease"?

I don't buy tools there.
I leave them for you guys.
You leave the furniture for me.
It's just a stratolounger, but I've never seen a base model before. Absolutely pristine.
The center rolls are a bit flat because I had just sat in it.

I've been to ours several times, almost always leave empty handed. High prices and seems like any good stuff must have been picked off before I get there.

I went afar to visit a HFH store in the rarified atmosphere where Seinfeld's parents lived on the sitcom, Boca Raton FL. I presumed that if you want better-quality stuff, go to a better-quality community.

Man, I'm disappointed! The story was just about the same as the Ft. Lauderdale store. Nothing worth getting, and if they did have 'something,' it was priced so-high as to be stupid to purchase it. Some Black & Decker dirty, used side-grinder, $129! That's only three times what you can find them for, online! A bunch of used-up Ryobi powered tools, insane prices, nearly-new pricing! The only thing I found I wanted to buy was a group of 3 books, they were 5 for $1, but I couldn't find two more that interested me so I left with 3.

On the way home I stopped at the Ft. Lauderdale HFH, but there was nothing, I mean, nothing to buy. No tools, no materials, nothing. very disappointing. I did stop at another faith-based drug residential program that runs a big thrift shop and the best thing I found there was a complete Season 1 of The Unit. Dennis Haysbert is always a good buy, in that role.

I'm pretty-close to not-bothering to visit the HFH store unless I'm in the neighborhood for some other reason.

We have a similar pair of stores locally and they get some nice stuff in there. Tools, supplies, DVD's, books, some nice used furniture. Only prerequisite is you gotta be persistent. I don't find stuff every single time I go in there, but every once in a while I score big.

I have definitely noticed that the stock and the prices are definitely a reflection of the community when it comes to restores. You can often gauge it by the furniture. Went to a new on recently in a nice area and there was nothing older than 40 years and the prices were definitely retail.

You folks have been a lot more successful than me. The best I've gotten is a nice Bench Grinder for $25 once. I was there the other day and they had a sorry looking radial arm saw for $150 (waaaay too much)

I buy a lot of storage lockers and donate to the Habitat store after every buy. The only things I can imagine anyone buying there are the things I donate. I've never checked prices as I just can't get interested in junk.
