Actually Jedi Master the Goodmark doors fit very good right out of the box. I have several truck buddies that have bought them and say they fit very well.

Drive a parts door would have the same problems. Lots of rust to repair and clean. I am going clean slate and Chinese made on this one.

Been too long since I have updated my thread. I have been busy and lazy about posting. I blame Motor Trend on Demand!

So where I left off which is several weeks ago. I changed the oil for the first time for me on the wife's Volvo. We had 3 free oil changes. It has the oil filter on the side of the engine facing up. And its a canister. Which I think is kinda cool.

Supplies gathered. I'm not a fan of Castrol but that is the Manufacturer recommendation and O'riellys had a $10 off coupon when you bought the 5 qt and a Wix filter. But the 3.2 takes 8 qts of oil. Holy **** my Milodon racing pan on the 383 in the Caprice only holds 7!

Here is the location of the filter. It uses a 36mm socket. So I picked one of those up at Lowes.

I see you jumped onto the MTOD train as well, it has killed a bit of my time in the past few weeks but honestly it was worth the $50 a year to me.

Do LS engines use the 36mm for the crank like the Duramax engines? Also GM trucks/SUV's have a 36mm axle nut on the front. Glad you found the old one before using the new one.

If you have a tractor supply near you I highly recommend going by their bolt area, I can get Grade 8 hardware for $4.49/lb I believe. If I ever need something I don't have on hand I'll buy a few pounds of misc. to add to the stash.

Seems a throwback to go back to cartridge filters. That does not make much sense either. So now you have to pour used motor oil down the side of the engine so you'll remember you changed the oil? It seems a lot simpler to just take a spin on filter off and let it drain all over the engine as you try to get it out.

Hi JB. I joined MTOD right before they made the roadkill announcement. It was meant to be. I don't think LS engines have a crank bolt if I remember correctly. Now I did replace all the shocks 4 years ago on the Camaro maybe it was for a front suspension strut teardown. Who knows.

Hi Andy. It's not that I didn't want it. Did I really need it. Besides upon returning it I used its funds towards the trenching shovel. So a tool was still added to the collection.

As far as the cartridge filter. Both Volvo's have owned had them so I assume all Volvo's do. Not sure if it is a European thing. The 2004 XC90 we owned had a V8 which wasn't Volvo but actually made by Yamaha for Volvo. But it had the filter down by the pan actually recessed up and really hard to get off. It did not have a nut on the end like this filter.

Surprisingly this filter did not leak up on taking it off. Just one little drop. A really good design.

Along with the oil change I got a new air filter and also a replacement badge for the grill. I found a website that sells all genuine Volvo parts for I'm sure half of what the dealer charges. Actually this air filter was cheaper than the Fram part at O'riellys. 2 day prime from Amazon.

Next up was stripping these and sandblasting all the rust spots clean. A keen eye (Andy) will notice I posted one of these already in primer in a previous post. After examining it I could see all the rust spots showing it didn't have a smooth finish. So it got blasted.

So I was excited about the steps so I was going to shoot them sealer primer and Blue. I have the cowl covers and those bottom cab corner pieces as well. That all came to a halt when I opened my sealer primer(waawaa). Will have to order some more.

I am trying to start the truck up once a week and move her outside for some sun bathing. So this was Front End Friday. I caught the wife trying to get out of the photo.

So I am jumping around here on pieces of the truck depending on how much time I have. Friday I spent the morning with the wife so I didn't want to start anything big so i tackled one of the vent windows. These are one of the most hated parts of this truck to rebuild.


The driver one is missing the spring and nut and special locking washer. I found the spring in the bottom of the door but the nut and washer I will have to make the washer and buy a 5/16-24 fine thread nut.

I am doing one at a time so I can see how everything goes back together. I have new old stock glass coming from a truck buddy in Oklahoma along with the correct 65-72 factory trac bar that I need to get my rearend centered up.

There is a rivet you have to drill out on the pivot and the window frame comes out pretty easy.

Then cleaning the old glass tape out of the frame. Glad I did this there was quite a bit of rust underneath.

This is the division bar on the backside of the assembly and there are 4 rivets here you have to drill out to get the back rubber piece off.

Worked the creases out the best I could. Got the oil can gone.(thank god). Knocked out about 30 dents and high and low spots. Then went around it with a 36 grit on the right angle die grinder and knocked down high spots. Then finished up with 60 grit on the DA sander.

That's it for now. Next up is welding up the 2 holes. I did spray rust inhibitor on a few places that I couldn't get all the rust. Mainly around where the big dent was and a couple places on top.

Next thing will be skim coating the whole thing in body filler see if we can dress this pig up with some lipstick.

Only you Bob. I honestly thought I wouldn't be in the photo. As to what I am seeing who knows. The walk was in the Barton Creek mall which is South Austin and there are some weird people down there. They call themselves "Keep Austin Weird" people. I try to stay away from them as much as possible.

Second I appreciate your offer but the Mrs. informed me after all was said and done we hit $3200.

Got a package from Amazon last week that had my TCI TV cable corrector kit in it. Apparently Amazon thought it was a delicate trans cooler as they packaged it really well.

Here was my first problem. The throttle linkage(which is not factory) was obviously in the way. I thought for a little while on how to fix it. Spent some time on MCmaster Carr and had my shopping basket full when I figured out how to fix it for free. I still need to order 2 helm joints and a new rod to replace the one I have.

First I took off the bar from the accelerator assembly and extended it up. I am trying to decide if I will weld it for safety or just make an entirely new bar. The hard part will be cutting out the half moon hole needed at the bottom to attach it to the accelerator shaft.

My second problem was this bracket had too much powder coating on it and the tv cable would not lock in. So I ground the paint off on the backside.

Finally everything installed including the bracket that goes on the carb linkage for the correct geometry for the TV cable. You will notice I have not put tension on the cable yet. Many videos and websites describing how to do this properly. I did several test drives trying to get it just right.

So that catches me up to yesterday. I spent all day cleaning and detailing Jay's car. And this morning it is pouring rain. Oh well it has nice water beads all on the paint.

I love the wood side boards but around here you put the wood on the inside of the stakes.

Nice hammers! Just a tease shot though, I can't see much of the handles.

Cupcake production was impressive to say the least!

Andy that is my biggest fear in selling the Caprice. It will end up as a Donk.

The wife has Scentsy warms throughout the house(before the bunny) and now there are 2 air fresheners that put out a spray "every 9 minutes" like in retail bathrooms. They are keeping the smell at bay as long as "those two boys" empty his litter box every morning.

Yesterday it rained from 5am until about 3pm. We got 2.25 inches of rain which we needed. So I didn't make it out to the shop until about 330 when the sun came out and I dried off Jay's freshly waxed car.

Then I found a few odd jobs I could get done before the end of the day.

I did a quick cleanup on one of the fender badges for the 64 and I think it looks pretty good for being 50+ years old. I have a cool little way I am going to reproduce the red paint area.

I spent all of today working on this rear fender. The top is very close as is the front. Just a little bit more mud on the back where it has the crease.

Andy it still has bondo on it but not a 1/4" thick. Will get this pig looking good with some lipstick and color.

And my ice maker on the fridge decided to stop working. So quick solution was buy a bag of ice. Dive into that later in the week. I just got the dryer fixed!

sorry i've never owned a fridge with an icemaker and even plumbed for one when I remodeled our kitchen 20 some years ago. I need to remodel the kitchen again cause after raising 5 kids and their friends and ours it needs it and I'll probably still plumb in an ice maker pipe just in case we sell or maybe get lazy and buy a fridge that makes ice. we've never liked the taste of the ice cubes and i use frozen old A&W glass mugs for my ice tea.

carry on and i'm still trying to chase down that shipping guy to send you some wood scraps for your little projects, but he's MIA at the moment cause he says he's moving his STUFF.

we have wild rabbits in our neighborhood and probably cause some pets were left out. sadly my cat takes care of a lot of them cause she might only eat one brand of tuna wet cat food, but if the store sold fresh rabbit I bet she'd love it. best of luck with yours and hope your boys and family love it and keep it inside away from the cats and big birds flying by.

Yea I checked all 6 symptoms Mr. Google said it might be and I confirmed its the actual ice maker itself. So its "only $94". Sounds like a $ 2.00 bag of crystal clear ice from the Grocery store will work for now. I only need it for my Ice Tea.

Thanks for stopping in Drives. Yes the place we adopted the bunny from said if we have him outside to make sure we are there or have him in a cage with a top so he doesn't get carried off! I didn't know Cats would eat them. That is a pretty big meal for a cat. He is a big boy.

Today's update. I have almost 20 hours in this fender including stripping it down. Seems I am a little on the slow side. I got it ready for some high build primer and just ran out of steam today. The humidity and wearing my mask for 4 straight hours just drained me for some reason. Hopefully in the morning when I shoot it all my hours of work will pay off.
