Bret, I trust your new seal will work better.
You hope.......Not trying to be negative but we all now how these things go.
(In a very poor Jedi tone) I wish you luck, young Brett.

Bret that shifter/boot is looking very like artYour saga on the door sounds like about zero fun..hopefully the new one works better.
Great progress and as always excellent attention to detail!
Hopefully the new one works out Bret! Look forward to seeing it mounted and in action. That truck is awesome!!!

BJ: we all sympathize with your door issue and i'm sure you've thought it out and decided a new door is the best option. did you ever look for a part donor truck or maybe that's not even an option?
good luck!!
Bret, I trust your new seal will work better.

20180415_160520 by bjohnson388, on FlickrBeen too long since I have updated my thread. I have been busy and lazy about posting. I blame Motor Trend on Demand!
So I went to get a 1/2" drive ratchet from its drawer and wouldn't you know I have a 36 mm socket. I have no idea why. So I returned the one from Lowes.
While I was at Lowe's I picked up some 1/2" grade 8 hardware for the rear suspension on the 64'. There is just something magical about Grade 8.
Bret
Bret,
I see you jumped onto the MTOD train as well, it has killed a bit of my time in the past few weeks but honestly it was worth the $50 a year to me.
Do LS engines use the 36mm for the crank like the Duramax engines? Also GM trucks/SUV's have a 36mm axle nut on the front. Glad you found the old one before using the new one.
If you have a tractor supply near you I highly recommend going by their bolt area, I can get Grade 8 hardware for $4.49/lb I believe. If I ever need something I don't have on hand I'll buy a few pounds of misc. to add to the stash.
JB
I'm confused. Why didn't you want two 36mm sockets?
Seems a throwback to go back to cartridge filters. That does not make much sense either. So now you have to pour used motor oil down the side of the engine so you'll remember you changed the oil? It seems a lot simpler to just take a spin on filter off and let it drain all over the engine as you try to get it out.
Keep up the good work!

Bret, I think LMC Trucks has a fender with slightly less rust and fewer dents. At $339.95 that might be a real nice Mother's Day present. Think how big a smile SWMBO would have if the truck could be finished a month or even a few weeks sooner.
Great updates Bret
A 36mm socket also will work on an old VW flywheel nut (along with 273 ft/lbs of torque - from memory don't quote me on that bit).
Sorry to see the truck is still throwing a little sand in your face, man that is a nice chunk of bog.
Cheers GB![]()

Bret, I had two questions after reading your post.Saturday morning had my oldest son MDA muscle walk at the mall. Love this little man. Rare photos of me in my post.
He is supported by the local High School Honor Society who come to the walk and pull the firetruck contest you get entered into if your team raises over a $1,000. This year Team Nicholas Ray raised $2,950. The most we have in the 7 years we have been a part of the walk.
His teachers from school even came to support him.

Wow, you were going full bore this weekend, lots of good progress! You know if you make the trek to Nebraska you have to stop by at some point, I'm right off of I-35.
JB
He literally is right off I-35, about two miles and no stop signs (traffic lights don't exist there.
Great pictures of your son and the walk. There's the most important part of your life, but you know that.![]()
Bret, I had two questions after reading your post.
First, who or what caught your attention at that moment or are you just looking for an escape route?
![]()
Second, according to Amazon I saved money on a recent purchase. Rather than buying another tool, is there a way I can add $50 to help Team Nicolas Ray reach an even $3K?
Bret great save on the fender. Thanks for posting the rebuild of the wing window.
Great to see the support for you son and your family.
Dwight
Looks like a fun day for your son.
So is truck called porky pickup. You’re making it look pretty good.

i'm still trying to get my shipper to get the package together for you and hopefully i'll be ORGANIZED soon so he can.
cheers
Bob: I know you aren't the Devil, but man you do catch the DETAILS. WELL DONE
and maybe BJ has an answer.![]()
Aww, Bret, it just needed a coat of paint. I'll wager the fender had the Bondo in the fall of '81 so you're not really getting it back to like it was then, are you?
Glad ya'll met your goal. Next time, give GJ a chance.

You owe it to those two boys.Good to see them rolling down the street. But that Caprice needs 20" wheels to fit in down there.
I love the wood side boards but around here you put the wood on the inside of the stakes.
Nice hammers! Just a tease shot though, I can't see much of the handles.
Cupcake production was impressive to say the least!
You'll get used to the rabbit odors. You owe it to those two boys.

Bret, I'm so sorry. Time to start the search for icemaker 0.
BJ: your truck just keeps looking better everytime i look at your thread so keep up the great work and IT WILL BE FINISHED SOME DAY SOON.
sorry i've never owned a fridge with an icemaker and even plumbed for one when I remodeled our kitchen 20 some years ago. I need to remodel the kitchen again cause after raising 5 kids and their friends and ours it needs it and I'll probably still plumb in an ice maker pipe just in case we sell or maybe get lazy and buy a fridge that makes ice. we've never liked the taste of the ice cubes and i use frozen old A&W glass mugs for my ice tea.
carry on and i'm still trying to chase down that shipping guy to send you some wood scraps for your little projects, but he's MIA at the moment cause he says he's moving his STUFF.
we have wild rabbits in our neighborhood and probably cause some pets were left out. sadly my cat takes care of a lot of them cause she might only eat one brand of tuna wet cat food, but if the store sold fresh rabbit I bet she'd love it. best of luck with yours and hope your boys and family love it and keep it inside away from the cats and big birds flying by.
