Picked up this generator for $40. Don't know if it runs, but it turns free.

Saw tools on the table at a garbage sale down the st from me this morning. Was surprised to see a bit of Snap-on tools in the mix. Grabbed all I could talk the lady out of for the $35 I had on me.

Not too many tool favorable Estate sales round me lately. A few weeks ago I was at one that had stuff in the garage at least- I asked how much for an unmarked smalls storage cabinet lady says five bucks, ok I’ll take that considering it’s got hardware in it as well - found a lil CM screw extractor set too and at the counter the other lady doesn’t seem as happy as me about my $5 deal. She asks me how much are the screw extractor sets - I shrug my shoulders as I really didn’t know and figured it would be like a buck or 2 . She says $5 for them as well / go figure but I’ll take it still.
IMG_3589.jpg
Then just the other day on Craigslist jumped on a deal I thought was a scam (had to email back and forth) but turned out alright. Snap on set KRA-59G, KRA-429E and KRA-380D. They need some cleaning and I’m missing a draw and badges.
IMG_3593.jpg
Paid the asking price of $120 but did score a couple of free Gain laundry detergent bottles out of the deal as the guy was making more room in his garage for the couponing wife ( had racks of cleaners/detergents!). If anyone can help me with the drawer or badges I’d be open to trades. Think I’m just gonna try and clean these up and not worry about a full resto job.

Picked up this Carolina Tool press today, found on FB. 55 ton with remote pump, pump and cylinder seem to work, but I may have other plans down road for it.
I’m kinda partial to the Carolina stuff as I grew up with one in Dads shop.
I remember a guy would show up from time to time with a pickup and trailer selling these presses, bandsaws, engine lifts and other stuff.

USA steel!

A base was added to it to make higher for some reason, I’ll likely take off and build a base and casters.

Love everything about this post. Thanks for sharing!!

I recently purchased a new Craftsman hatchet on sale for camping with my 9 year old son. That was after I read him "Hatchet" the book by Gary Paulsen. I was looking for a stacked leather handled Estwing but couldn't justify the expense...
That’s a good book. I think my son wrote a book report on it. My own inspirations at that age were Jim Kjelgaard novels.
I have one of those Estwings I bought new in the 1970s. It came with a leather belt-carry sheath with a snap closure, and was bundled with a matching stacked-leather handle hunting-style sheath knife. In the mid 1990s I sold the knife (also a bigger stacked-leather Camillus sheath knife, and a Ka-Bar military-style knife) at a yard sale before moving to my present home. And somewhere along the way lost the hatchet sheath. These days, I wonder why I sold some of the things I did, or why I kept others, but I don’t regret keeping the Estwing. This Craftsman is a larger, heavier hatchet, but the Estwing is, in my opinion, a well-designed tool that will provide a lifetime of service. Like their hammers, pretty tough to break.
I’m sure your Craftsman will serve you well. And then too, you may see a used Estwing that hasn’t been abused or ground up, at a sale for a “can’t walk away from it” price.

Cruising Offer Up late last night and saw "bench grinder with stand". Messaged to see if it was still available, and the guy replied back at 4am that it was. Four hours and 9 miles later, I'm loading a 3/4 HP flat top block grinder into my truck. The stand might not be original, but it's sturdy and the eye shields are perfect. Runs like a dream. Also came with light, quench tray and CM tool sharpener attachment. This thing is covered in sawdust, but looks like it will clean up nicely. Oh yeah - $50.

All cleaned up with new power cord. Just needs new stones.

Here's a Pro Tip - If you change the light bulb and the lamp still doesn't work, don't immediately tear into it, pull the old wiring, drive to the hardware store to get the right size spade connectors, cut up a perfectly good extension cord and rewire the lamp only to have it still not work. Just wait a few seconds after you turn it on. Apparently, the larger grinders need to get up to speed before the light comes on. /smh

Your host had what he considers two really good stops at the Early Bird flea markets today. With the caveat that one man's cool is another man's ho-hum, there are several items in this haul that reach cool status in my book. :pimpflash

On the blazingly orange right, joining the Ohio boys in the Dorman parts cabinet club. More on that in Drives' thread soon.

Left to right, top to bottom on the small stuff to the left of that:

- c.1944 US Army CF-8 Pocket Stereoscope, folding, in leather case. Abrams, Lansing, Michigan. These were used for reading 3-D reconnaissance imagery in WWII. I'll post the actual goggles later, sorry. (What this was doing in a bin with old-timers mechanics' stuff, I don’t know, but I am 100% certain it wasn't a keepsake. It's well-used, with the snap lid on the leather case worn off from being opened and closed often. Anybody got any ideas? Is there some cool old school automotive maintenance application I am missing?)

- For my ever-burgeoning K-D collection, K-D 2324 brake lining gauge (/32nds graduations)

- early 7/8" New Britain socket, Husky 1-1/6" socket

- a new leather-clad 25-footer for Unaiu's tape measure thread - Justus Roe & Sons

- c. 1940's Indestro Mfg Co Auto-Kit style combination wrench set No. 900-40, in original clip

- The humongous upholsterer's punch is only marked ELIZABETH, N.J. but I'm pretty sure it's American Swiss File & Tool

- The wire stripper is unbranded BELL SYSTEM B

- The hack saw frame is Millers Falls No. 100 BELL SYSTEM B

- The thing inside the hack saw frame is a new one on me - an 8-inch ADJUST-A-BOX patented (2,912,891) in 1959. The adjusting nut moves half of a 6-point box end towards the other static end. No branding, but marked MFD. USA, which makes me think Plomb empire, but that's just a swahunch. It's a little corny, but too interesting to leave behind.

- The 1/2-inch drive sliding tee is a TRUTH.

- The hinge handle is only the second [P&C] tool I have ever found in the wild here in NJ, and it happens to be a pre-1941 pre-Plomb acquisition model, with the fork in the head, not the handle.

Lugz, I love that Dorman cabinet!
If you want to clean it, I have had good luck with original GoJo hand cleaner with a terrycloth rag. Spread it on, let it sit a few minutes and wipe it off. Amazing results on cleaning up painted cabinets.

On metal, and even wood finishes you can use the GoJo with 0000 steel wool. I buy the 4 pound container at Pep Boys and use it for initial cleaning on many items.

As always test on a spot like inside a drawer, etc.

I have about 7 of those Dorman ^^ cabinets I had purchased in a lot of other items recently and they looked similar. I used Tub 'O Towels. They cleaned them up beautifully and didn't ruin the decal on the drawers.

How much did you pay if you don't mind me asking. I am trying to unload two of them and not sure what to ask.

Nice find on the Dorman parts cabinet! I've been looking for one of those drawer models for a while, usually I see them for the $75 range, which is way more than I'm willing to pay.

The TRUTH hinge handle... that's just Ho-Hum, you should just send it to me. :lol_hitti

Thanks for the cleaning tips, guys. I like WD-40 and 0000-grade steel wool, frankly, which loosens up grime and starts to protect at the same time, but I don't mind trying new techniques. The Dorman is incredibly sturdy with all kinds of different compartment options. I'm going to gush on Drives' cabinets thread.

NYBODYMAN - I paid $28 for the Dorman cabinet and a bunch of the other tools you see (BELL SYSTEM B tools, the Army stereoscope, the K-D brake lining gauge, and the ADJUST-O-BOX wrench), but I am sure you could get more for it than that all spiffed up and in a different context. I got to this vendor before he was done unloading his trailer. (He had cleaned out an old-timer's garage, a retired mechanic, and he was overwhelmed - trying to unload and organize and deal with walk-ups at the same time, with stuff laid out on 4 tables!) I was going through a big plastic bin as he was still unloading, and I pulled out a couple pieces to an incomplete Snap-on puller set that I saw he had on the end of the table. He appreciated that, one thing let to another and soon I was helping him organize and sort sockets and all kinds of stuff that belonged together from the bins as I was going through them. Trust and congeniality established, he started asking me what I though things were worth (not things I was buying), and then he invited me to go look through the trailer if I wanted to. Inside was a huge later model Snap-on box stuffed full of impact stuff and other things I wasn't interested in, several more big plastic bins, a roller 0 also stuffed with things I wasn't interested in, signage, and two cabinets, the Dorman and an unmarked jobbie, same size. I found a few other smalls and put them and the smalls I had found outside on the table on top of the Dorman cabinet and said, "How much?" As he was counting with his finger I already knew it was going to be $1 each plus something decent ($20) for the Dorman. A friendly price.

:headscrat I could've sworn you already had at least one. I was thinking of you even as I was buying it and when I said I was joining the club! What do you have then if not one of these? (You might want to skip my reply to NYBODYMAN! :))

$20 is a GREAT deal. Nice snag.
Page #73 of this thread, I picked up a trio of Dorman parts bins, but not the drawer type with pulls. Looks like they went into some type of parts cabinet.

Managed to sneak out for one estate sale but the second sale was a no-go due to time. I drove past it while rushing back for a meeting I had to call into. (that of course got postponed to Monday..)

In any case, a 1-1/4" Proto combo, and OLD Omark chain saw file holder with a 1965 Canadian patent date! it also has some brass runner/guides, that the usual holders don't have. two drill bits with auger pieces, one marked 3/16 ths, the other 4/32 :wft: :dunno: A powder box (no, not that kind of powder) of hardened steel pins, a small craftsman puller, a miter-box/corner clamp; could be used for gluing I suppose, Stanley and Millers Falls drivers, the smaller is the Stanley. A file that I didn't even realize I was holding until after I got home and was preparing for pics... The Scotch electrical tape tin is cool. It took a bit to get it open and it had some snelled fishhooks.

Five bucks all

Small haul today, finally able to get out for a bit. 1/4" ARO pneumatic drill, worked on the first try and no wobble in the chuck. Assortment of taps and dies, USA makers. 3 punches. 2 C clamps and a 3 way clamp. 2 ratchet straps and a gear schlep bag for my nailers. All in for 30 bucks. Oh and a 11/32" Craftsman 1/4" drive socket that was missing in my set.

Took an early lunch and hit 2 garage and an estate sale today.

Garage sale 1 spent $15 on a 50 drawer organizer loaded with hardware, $15 on a Triumph tap and die set, and $10 on a Shopsmith dado set, Craftsman wrench forgot to get a picture of and a hacksaw.

Sale 2 had a shop made cart for $5, 16 inch c clamp for $4, Hinsdale DBE wrench for $2, Stanley Sweetheart chisel for $2, saw vise for $3, box of 6 inch lag bolts for $3, box if carriage bolts for $5 and a free 3/8 socket bar.

Estate sale was a carry over from last weekend yielded a Dremel electric sander in the original metal case, 23 spade bits, Pittsburgh puller set, a trigger lock for my buddy that came along for the ride, and a clip on liquor dispenser that I couldn't pass up all for $10.20180615_164357.jpeg20180615_164406.jpg20180615_164904.jpg20180615_164909.jpg20180615_165049.jpg20180615_182740.jpeg20180615_165201(0).jpgIMG_20180615_182849.jpeg

Forgot to include a picture of the Warner Electro Plating tool with all of the original manuals. Really wanted this, but couldn't justify dropping $100 on it.20180615_095944.jpeg

Yeah, I had the same reaction after I got a Panavise on clearance before my Radio Shack closed, several years ago. No accessories for me, lol.

Got a nice heavy wheel-barrow for $5. I'd like to coat the inside with some kind of coating to keep off the rust, but there is nothing I can think of that would work since it would no doubt scratch off and get into whatever you were hauling (ex: concrete).
